  1. I also carry a little more weight around my waist than I should . I train hard on the bike, but admittedly our diet at home could be much better so the weight is coming down very slow. But I am fit and feel healthy. I would say no to weight classes in races. You race, you ride, you have fun, whether you are a skinny racing snake, a regular guy or a raging huffing buffalo. Yes, I kick some skinny guys butt on the bike and then again get thrashed by others, just helps me in staying motivated and doing the thing I live for.
  2. I also think the split time calculator on the website of the cyclechallenge is good indicator
  3. don't be surprised if you are suddenly towing me next sunday PP 9:33
  4. Did a 73km mtb ride yesterday...3h37...started 12pm to see how things will go in the heat,,,,got hamerred by the sun and wind, good prep for next sunday I reckon SO yeah, that's it for me basically as well. Going for a 35km chilled ride on Wednesday to stretch the legs as they are bummed even today Hoping for a good race/ride
  5. That's better! Hope it works out for you, but now I must find someone else to hook my towing rope onto when they zoom past....give it horns!!
  6. More or less in the same boat, been training relatively ok, starting 9:33 in PP. Yep, we sure gonna PP if its hot like today. Will see tomorrow how I handle the heat. Going riding at 11:30. Hoping for something between 4:30 and 5 hours on race day with the MTB
  7. damn, where's my chip??
  8. For me this is just marketing bull ****. I'm probably the most technically challenged hubber here and don't know much about all the geometry wharra wharra and all that. I do like to have good quality stuff an like to fiddle with my bike. I just get on my bike and ride....don't give a rats ass about what others do and think. There are probably suckers that will go and get this, and good for them but I wont. Since I started worrying less about all the "acceptable" things to have, and focused more on the pure joy of getting on my bike and just ride, I ride with a smile on my face no matter how much I suffer
  9. Aiming for 4:30 so will think about it again.....
  10. hoop ons loop mekaar raak vir 'n Germaanse Bruisdrankie na die tyd....
  11. Thanks!!
  12. maybe not a bad idea......Jy is mos die mechanic, pakdonkie en insleep voertuig vir die dag?
  13. I tried to find that spreadsheet that Stevie did containing all the hubbers and their starting groups, can anyone help please?
  14. So, in being a 94.7 virgin I just want to confirm a few things: My last long-ish ride on the MTB will be over the weekend, and then a short, balls-to-the-wall ride on Wednesday. That should be ok? Then for the race/ride, I will take my camelback filled with juice, racefood bars and have a protein peanut butter smoothie on my way to start/race in the car. Anything else that I might be missing? Oh yes ,some beer money for sure!
  15. I was thinking the same....
  16. I'd go with sunglasses with vented lenses as well Had my Oakley Racing Jackets (jawbones) for a year now and they're awesome Also when your lenses do fog up just move them forward on your nose a bit and back when its cleared up again
  18. I'm also going to do 94.7 on MTB with knobblies. This is due to a few reasons: getting a road bike will be grounds for divorce in my house, too lazy to swop tyres around and stuff up my tubeless setup. My current tyres (Specialized the Captain Control) are near their end, so in two weeks time they should be semi-slicked. I will replace them end of November. So, just going to pump them to the max, get on and ride.
  19. It takes something special to become involved in charity, especially like you guys. Think most people become involved after some personal experience? Will bring my cousin along with me to expo, he needs new socks (too smelly ) and will get me some too. So will say howzit then
  20. Eldron Can you please send me some information regarding the wheels Kritzie is talking about? I just need to know what Im in for should the time be right, don't want to waste your time but would like to get an indication at least. 26" Thanks
  21. No man, what have you done???? Just made me lean more towards getting one too....going to do 94.7 on mtb with knobblies just because I don't want to do the effort of sealant etc etc. quite like Eldron's idea though, as it would be easier to hide from the ball and chain at home Will see how the bonus looks end of next month and how much my wife wants done at home...
  22. Thanks Sir Cow This sounds like a winner, will check it out on Google Maps....yeah, I'm a map guy What fun are you guys gonna have the 17th? Wyatt also said I can park at his spaza shop, will see which option will be taken. Good luck for the final few rides
  23. I try to stay seated most of the time, but if its a looonnngggg uphill I tend to stand now and then. It gives other muscles a chance to work harder. The people that know says that if you stand, switch to a higher gear and then when sitting again, switch to lower gear. Sprinting the last stretch also helps like Kranswurm said, makes your legs get used to standing, gives you more power as well. I try and sprint (or ride as fast as possible) the last km
