  1. Excellent taste for a roadie I say.....
  2. I must add, however, that I first look after my wife and son's needs in a month as well as that of the house and cars, and then what's left, is mine to do with as I please
  3. I used to play golf, MTB is cheaper Lets say 220 for round of golf, 70 for halfway house and then 200 for 19th makes it 500 a week two rounds of golf a month over a year equals 6000 a year. Since I got my new bike in Jan 2012: tubeless conversion: 550, service: 450, SLX brakes 2200 SLX chain, 320, middle chainring:180, cassette 345, service: 400 Would probably have to fit new tyres before end of the year at 800 (Spez the Captain Control) SO over two years, about 6000. I didn't include sundries like lube and that as well as training drinks and so on But its all worth it. I don't drink much and we don't go out too much, so that is even cheaper. I run my bike as cheap and keep it in a good running condition. if you look after your stuff, it will last long Still, much cheaper per year than drinking each week at the pub after work
  4. Well said Wyatt, expect to hook a PP starter on your way past me.....do you have a tow bar on your bike? will gladly suck......your.....wheel.........That is if I can hold on!
  5. Wyatt I might just take you up on that offer....I know where that is, as I take my son to Papachino's often Maybe some retail therapy after the race might just be what's needed Thanks dude
  6. Thanks Gary Yeah somehow when on 3G in cant download the maps as well This looks workable, will check it out for sure
  7. Also, I would go and have a look on www.thesportsbasement.co.za Since you are in GP you might just as well go and have a look there. I was lucky almost two years ago, got a 2011 model Specialized Rockhopper for 6K in 2012. brand new. Their stock varies but you might just be able to find a nice bargain there.
  8. I had a look at the road closures around the start and first part of the route. From what I could see woodmead drive is a no go until 10-ish My wife's office is in Western Services Road and she said I could park there (just next to the Baron). Only problem is I wouldn't know how to get there from Centurion with all the road closures. I contemplated riding to the start, but that might just be too much. ANy suggestions on a route?
  9. Glad you are ok....bastards!!
  10. I don't know, but aren't these relatively cheap? New one might cost the same as replacing the cracked screen...
  11. Rouxtjie, is jy nie nou besig om die bul by die ballas te pak nie?
  12. You're right in a way as well But I also look at it this way. I do my job for myself alone...if I do good, I'm happy, should I get some form of recognition at work, that's great, but the intrinsic satisfaction gained from performing at my best and being successful is more than enough reward. Same for these guys. Glad we all agree that its piss poor that they receive squat....a lot needs to change before our country's sport starts really begin to shine on all levels. Not being recognized for your achievements is but one of many symptoms of a sick and poorly managed sport environment.
  13. Yeah....but what do these awards actually mean? Daryl and Greg are highly rated amongst their peers and get more than enough reward from their sponsors and recognition in the cycling community WORLDWIDE. What would these nominees or whatever get besides a over priced and paid for trophy and a voucher for a tank of petrol?
  14. More or less wat ek ook beplan om te doen. Was by Rooiwal gewees vir kort race. Het so klein bietjie meer respek vir die roadies gekry. MTB met knobblies gery. slegs 26km maar basies so vining gery as wat ek kan. Op 18km eers longe uitgek*ts en weer verder gery. Was oraait, 28km/h average. Ry eerder 60km mtb.
  15. Now that question can be interpreted in so many ways, but this is a cycling related forum right?
  16. Maybe we could just give the man a bell (s?) so when he passes in the double digit groups he can ring it, and when getting to the single digit groups, its PK time. If I could ride at 30% of his abilities I would be over the moon
  17. How about we make it more competitive....if Wyatt pass any Hubber from UU he is allowed one klap per rider he passes. Special condition is that he should leave his nun chucks anal beads at home.
  18. +1
  19. I've never heard choose me or the bike.....rather "its either me or cycling', but we worked it out, still married, still cycling. Now in our new house after two weeks I have my own little man cave. Still needs some sorting but its nice to have space for the bike and all my other stuff. I would suggest you speak to the wife and ask her what she suggests you do and work on a few possible solutions. Sort it out sooner rather than later, if it doesn't work, get her the single bed Wyatt suggested. BTW Haley, those are damn nice bikes you got
  20. By the sound of things, you're having some of that mix of yours right now......
  21. How do they work the cut off times? I see that some start at like 10:21 and there is already a cut off time 30 min later?
  22. I'm just going to enjoy the day...my training's been going relatively well enough to attempt a 4h30 on my mtb, but should be closer to 5h30. ON A SIDE NOTE Shouldn't the Hubbers from Pta/Centurion perhaps try and arrange to go there together to collect numbers and then all contribute to petrol or something? I have a Verso, so we can be 6 or 7 if two are small lightweight roadies Gautrain would have been a nice option
  23. Slim seun! that's not bad idea...
  24. Sounds like a good recipe for rocket fuel...you should be ok then.
  25. turns out to be more like 25.6km....will see how training goes
