  1. FFS. WTF. That was nothing like I had in mind. I realized when we went up the bloody steps to get to the trail that there was no way I was going under 2hrs. So that plan rapidly went out the window. And then had a sense of humour failure when at about 17km we hit the road and you could hear the announcer I thought yes please, 2:10 is doable. So I upped the pace, only to have the 22km route split off again up the damn mountain for about the 10th time. Big mistake! Eventually hobbled in at 2:20. My fitness was fine, but there was no way I was going to be able to run up and down the rocks like the real Trail runners. And my quads and calves are hammered. Was a spectacular route though, and the scenery was brilliant!
  2. I already have that ones sister :-) They are really lovely bikes - If I didn't already have one I would snap it up in a heartbeat. But Steve knows that already!
  3. Well worth a listen if you have around an hour and a half to spare https://player.fm/series/the-real-science-of-sport-podcast How to cheat at sport and get away with it
  4. Thanks all for the advice - I almost made a rookie error - luckily I read the instructions and saw that the water stations are cupless - I would have blundered forward and then been really grumpy when I got to the water station and not been able to drink. I am now the proud owner of a collapsable cup from First Ascent!
  5. Lol - had to go and check and you've made me chuckle on an otherwise *** morning.
  6. I'm not running the Marathon luckily - my Wife is. So if it's a perfect 'activation' run for a beer at Forries later the morning I'll take it thanks.
  7. Jaaa - when I saw they recommend you pack a first-aid kit I began to question the wiseness of my decision. And much like Duathlon is the ugly sister of Triathlon, all the talk leading up to this weekend is about the Marathon, and hardly any mention the trail-run
  8. Anyone doing the 22km Trail run the day before CT? Or am I the only mad one :-)
  9. And that pretty much sums up how badly it's gone downhill - do a forum search for MTN-Qhubeka and you will see all sorts of comments and suggestions about how great it would be if Daryl Impey could sign and if Chris Froome was on the team and such a pity Louis Meintjies was leaving. And now - one simple statement - "I do not want to see Willie ride for Africa's team - He needs to be at one of the top teams."
  10. it seems all too similar to the old Team Barloworld days when the first few seasons had a very South African flavor, after which it slowly morphed in what was almost a re-branded Saeco Cannondale team (I stand corrected but I think it was them). I think the days of Africa's Team of what started out as MTN-Qhubeka have sadly ended - I guess at the end of the day Sponsors want results not feel-goods
  11. Shame not that it's strictly Motorcycle related, but I'm guessing we all interested in the same type of programs - Jessi Combs from the program Overhaulin' died while trying to set a land speed record. I enjoyed her on Mythbusters too :-(
  12. My DT200 averages 6.4l/100km
  13. Yes you tell him that....
  14. I love parallel Twins
  15. The Fantastic Foreskin
  16. No jokes - our Sharpei X can hear my wife's car a good 30s before I hear the gate open. If we're sitting chilling he'll get up and walk to the gate and start barking. She'll drive in just after that. Its uncanny.
  17. Just checked now on Youtube - apparently it's not that uncommon to spin dog hair into yarn
  18. Just one of those crazy things that sticks in a persons mind and I always think about it when I brush my dogs is an article I read as a kid in probably the Family Radio and TV mag - or maybe even YOU (giving my age away now!) about a woman who had a loom. She collected all her dogs hair she brushed, and wove it into a wool. She then knitted herself a jersey. I remember her saying it took a few washes to get soft, but it was one of the warmest jerseys she had ever worn!
  19. I've been doing double-laps of the Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve and I thought I might have a little try at Wolwespruit next weekend - But compared to what I was doing on the road - It certainly isn't easy this trail running thing.
  20. Thanks - I'm very comfortable doing the "Trail" runs here in Pretoria - usually opt for the 15km and this weekend will be doing the 21km at Rosemary, but I'm not really familiar with CT terrain at all and my brother who lives in CT and who runs the mountain trails regularly has been winding me up a bit! So was getting a bit worried. I suppose as a first genuine Trail run I've picked a good one from a scenery perspective!
  21. Has anyone done the 22km Peace Trail run they usually have the day before CT Marathon? My wife is doing CT but I'm not ready for a marathon yet so figured I'd do the trail run the day before. But I'm hearing this isn't just a little stroll along some gravel roads like the Trail runs we get in Pretoria so now I'm getting a bit worried!
  22. Stumbled across this headline on the weekend.... https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/hour-record-holder-victor-campenaerts-expected-join-dimension-data-2020-434767
  23. Try fitting an MX tyre with a Mousse
  24. Maybe he thought he was riding the Tour de Polony?
  25. Aaaaaaaand guess who just quit the Tour de Pologne
