  1. Is anything needed for hiking and running?
  2. Im wondering how this would compare with how state troopers in the USA react to uncooperative persons? Im not in favour of such treatment. Our violent society leads to violent policing. ☹
  3. Broken arm is excessive force during arrest. Perhaps the rangers did not know he is well known, has friends in high places and can ride anywhere he wants wthout a permit? ????‍♂️
  4. I had an Altain, it was a lekker bike. It was intended to be a budget model - bought that frame in 2004 new for R2700 from AVH's shop.
  5. There are some good 2nd hand wheels in the classifieds in the 10-15k range, like Zipps or Borats. Or buy directly from China, but consider shipping via Aramex or couriers other than SAPO. Nextie rims + hubs of your choise + Sapim spokes sounds like a winner.
  6. Equipment question: Ive decided to expand to a 3 shoe arsenal, after a few years of Nike Pegasus. I just bought some racing flats for short, fast runs. (Not that common, I had to search a while to get my size) For longer training I think the Pegasus is still good as they fit me perfectly, but I will consider a softer ride from other brands. I need some marathon race day shoes, someting light and stil responsive. I was thinking about Pegasus Turbo 2, but these seem a bit rare and costly too. Zoom Fly 3 are cheaper, but not as responsive without the ZoomX foam. Suggestions are welcome????
  7. Devon valley rd: from Paarl on the R44, right in Bottelary rd, left before the Devonvale golf course, left on Devon Valley rd. Follow to Adam Tas rd.
  8. That is 100% correct. The areas will differ and the dynamic response will differ. The difference can be calculated or measured (and I shall do so if my insurer wants to a repair on one of my bikes). Whether you can feel it, is subjective.
  9. @ Capricorn: I can attemt an answer to the second one: The test manufacturers do are not all the same - there are few standard tests. Some can be done, but others will consume frame life. There cerainly are tests that can be done to inspect the repair, like flash thermography. Imo the insurance should have it done in the case of a repair.
  10. ???? you may have a point. Perhaps it should rather be "ultra expensive"
  11. I am also an expert on the subject of composites and structural engeneering. I do not disagree with the carbon repairers and procedures described - there are prescribed procedures for such repairs, and the participants here sound like they do quality work. I disagree with the insurer that the frame will be the same after repair. In engineering terms, it will not, and no subject matter expert will state that it is equivalent before and after. I would not accept more than a cosmetic repair if I had an ultra light, high end frame like a Parlee, Colnago or Pinarello.
  12. This is a very good question. What are the acceptance criteria of a repair between the various parties: repairer-insurer-client?
  13. ☝️ I have one of those, it can make a very good espresso in combination with a Hario grinder. If done right, it beats the office Jura ito quality. The only challenge is to get the dosing just right. I would suggest that you get the expander gadget to make 2 espressos if you ever want to make more than one shot at a time. It is a hassle to clean and tricky keep the water from cooling down too much for a second shot.
  14. I would also ask for the proposed repair to be reviewed and approved by the frame manufacturer. If they restore the frame to the condition it was before the crash, the ride quality and stiffness should be the same. It should also not weigh more than it did before the repair. You bought a high performance, 950 gram frame, Im going to guess the repair and paint will add 100 to 200 grams. (Edit: there is no way imo that the original manufacturer would approve a repair, that frame is ???? beyond the point where it should be repaired)
  15. I just saw this. Im contemplating it instead of 2oceans. Less crowded, better scenery, possibly less expensive? ????
  16. More or less, I think. From what I understand, the plan is to add a 50km route to the Leapfrog half, that ends in Kleinmond, and have busses back to the start.
  17. I always take a chain tool on mtb rides. (Buy not road) I like having all the tools stored in 1 bundle, to be able to grab quickly out of the Camelbak. They dont all have to be stuck together, just packed so.
  18. I suspect the Valsbaai 50 will get more than a few runners, thanks to 2oceans shambles. It is an old ultra event set for revival in 2020. 50km, Gordon's Bay to Kleinmond.
  19. Ive also had bikes and sports cars screaming past - looked reckless, but no scary incidents like yours.
  20. The arrow scheme is fugly imo. Well painted, but hard pass!
  21. Some local roadies ride there every second day. Start close to first light, there is almost no traffic then. Avoid later in the day, esp during holudays when tourists take pics while driving with the other hand. From Rooiels onwards there is a wide shoulder.
  22. There may be employees of the importer or friends of them posting, the discussion has not turned into a flame war yet, just handbags. This top pro gave some live comments: https://streamable.com/o44uh (It seems like everyting is not working 100% there.)
  23. It is fair to compare similarly priced gruppos, That would mean XT vs GX? Imo GX Eagle is inferior to XT, if you have not comitted to a freehub, go Shimano I cant compare XTR to XO1, but my 11s Shimano XTR has been awesome, while my GX Eagle deraileur fell appart for no reason.
