  1. 4 Passes: Sir Lowry's - Viljoen's - Franschoek - Hellshoogte
  2. Jonkershoek, it has been a while..
  3. The Wannabees club from Somerset West rides that route often - it is relatively incedent free. Imo the danger is from super bikes and sports cars racing past once in a while. Bosts on trailers to a lesser extent are also uncomfortable.
  4. ????????
  5. Ive bought 30South Originals, Wingmans and Mavericks, Im impressed by them so far. Im getting some photochromatic Velos and Wstermans next.
  6. I do not agree that Oakley is better quality. They are not bad, but the plastic, rubber and polycarb is nothing special. (Of the big brand shades, I liked Rudy Project the most) My preferred brand now is 30South eyeware. I think these will be my next buy: https://www.30southeyewear.com/shop?store-page=VELOS-RX-SHIFT-Transition-lens-p268617311
  7. ^ the white and gold one is a bit meh imo, except if you are the pope. I prefer standard white and chrome, perhaps with a small rainbow stripe
  8. Hard to say - there are Chinese copies available for both of the frames shown.
  9. The Mythos makes better tasting coffee, Imo - it comes closer in taste to a manual machine. In terms of durability, I can vouch for Jura - the machine at work and the one we had for many years at home just keeps on going. I would suggest that you take some fresh beans to a showroom and taste before you buy if possible. Or rent for a week and compare.
  10. Re beginner trails: Southy Vines is nice and it is free to ride. There are a lot of skill development ot training obstacles packed into a short, twisty lap. For more relaxed vineyard / country dirt road rides for beginners, I recommend the Wannabee club trails West of the R44. Start at Somerbosch farm and ride a loop that suits your fitness from there. (Day pass can be bought at Somerbosch)
  11. I saw articles that say they expect a Covid vaccine roll out in SA in June-July. I think all events will have to adhere to the same small field regulations till the vaccine has time to have an impact.
  12. You can ride the promenade. Early morning is the best time - less windy, less people.
  13. Nutrition issue would be my guess. If your kJ intake is too low, yoir body will reduce muscle mass and you will feel weak. What are you training for, if I my ask? Very few events in SA require 200km rides to prepare for
  14. +1 for Santa Cruz. Pyga has some solid bikes, but iy is not fair to compare it to SC.
  15. ☝ notable how small the difference is, down a massive mountain pass in both wet and dry conditions. It looks like the conclusion is that braking is the same when dry, a tiny bit better on disks in the wet, and rim brakes are a bit faster in both conditions due to less drag.
  16. Disks are heavier, have more aerodynamic drag and need more effort to maintain. Out of curiosity, I wonder how a modern aluminium rim brake frame like a CAAD12 (1050 grams) with a rim brake Record or DA would compare weight wise with a Super6 disk? I know aluminium is not "pro", but my days imitating pros are past, and with wide rims and fat tyres it should be a good enough ride for a weekend ride?
  17. It is fine for sponsorship money to go to elite athletes imo, if that fits the goal of the sponsor - no point spending it on persons that cant podium, then. There are charity programs too, these would have different goals & criteria.
  18. Great initiative from them. I alao think they target the right profile with their times - slower than pro, but demanding enough that talented runners that are not coached can qualify. I have sent the link to a running buddy who fits the profile ????
  19. +1 for Hope, I have X2 and E4s, one of those superb install and forget components, and the lever ergonomics are magical. OP, the X2s should be fine for your bike parks with the big rotors.
  20. I had to wait for stock from Italy, but it has finally arrived - Mara-X. Thanks for all the advice, coffee-hubbers ???? I only have a hand grinder, so I rushed out to get 250g of freshly ground beans from my local roaster. I even managed to make a decent espresso today. ???? Good sales experience from onlinecoffeshop.co.za Next step is a grinder
  21. I see Froome lost 11 min today - dont think he will be much help to Carapaz.
  22. Time for the UCI weight limit to go to 5 kg
  23. Sooooo, to stir a bit ???? If Sagan did not have the additional weight of disks and the extra aerodynamic drag, perhaps he could have won? ????
  24. The complimentary crank condoms are fugly
  25. Imo the RD is a nice piece of mechanical design. No short or long cage - one RD for all cassette ranges. We will probably see 13s with the same style RD on Campy road gruppos, too. I like the crank - on road bikes I preferred the older 5 arm crank design, but on a gravel bike the style fits well. I dont agree with the OP about direct mount rings - easier imo to fit a ring without removing the crank. But I also dont swap rings unless they are worn, so small plus. The other big change is the thumb shifter - it is a lot bigger to shift from the drops. It looks less elegant now imo, like a bluetooth earphone or something that would not look out of place on an ear. I never had problems shifting from the drops, but I guess that became an issue with larger brifters. I dont likr disk brifters, no matter the brand.
