  1. Parlee has a frame with a disk cover. Not UCI legal, though. Disk frames have more drag than the equivalent rim brake frames. Same goes for a wheel with a rotor. Imo a rim brake is a disk brake with a large 622mm disk. If you have a large disk, less force is needed and cabkes are ok. If you go for a system with a smaller disk, more braking force is needed, so needs to be hydraulic https://bikerumor-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/parlee-rz7-aero-road-bike-review-15.jpg
  2. Permits now only at Trail's End in Grabouw. It would be easy to add to 4 passes if you buy a permit the day before, then you can turn off left after Sir Lowry's pass. There is a guard house at the country club where you would enter Grabouw, they check everybody.
  3. We ran Hans se kop from Grabouw this morning. Permits now only available from Trail's End in Grabouw - it is a nice place to stop.
  4. You have to follow the M6 to Hout Bay, and then up Hout Bay rd /Rhodes drive. There are no mtb routes that connect these points, but Hout Bay rd has a narrow dirt shoulder that you can ride with a mtb.
  5. Put that on the pic of Bernie, and you will have a winner ????????
  6. Nice to have a test in Pakistan again after so long, the UAE tours was just not the same ???? SA could have made better use of batting first, but not a bad position to be in. I think the match will only last 3 or 4 days on that pitch.
  7. Bottom line is that the missing link is stil missing. The start of thetrail has few rocky uphill stretches that needs a lot of power to maintain enough momentum to ride. My mate with his short travel mtb was very grumpy - climbs are easier on a trail bike here. After climbing you get some nice flowy trails, but we ended in 3 deas ends: 2x blocked and 1x not finished. We bundu bashed down to the tar, did not feel like riding back the way we came.
  8. All the land around the dam is off limits. There are dirt roads that go from the gate at the top of Steenbras pass all along the dam to the top of Sir Lowry's pass, but no legal access.
  9. The right fork for the average SA mtb'er is the Fox 34 imo. 120mm of travel will cover most marathon, multi day stuff, and even the occasional rechnical bike park around Stellenbosch. I own both Fox and Rockshox, prefer Fox.
  10. Clarence drive. The Cape put on a show today ????
  11. I love Mont Marie for the scenery, it is less rocky than Jonkers. Jonkers is lekker, but it requires some skill. (It is home to the only 2 black "expert" lines in the Cape afaik. Skyfall - beautiful st with lots of switchbacks Helderberg farm - my home ground. Wider than Jonkers, faster sections than Jonkers
  12. I found some parts for my build on CRC, just waiting for the DHL man.
  13. Ive bought several casual pairs, very happy so far. Optically they seem to work as advertized - polarized and reduced glare. Ive bought a photochromatic pair as well, have not used these yet. I have also not tested the warranty.
  14. I have been able to allocate a bit of ZAR to finish a Colnago build (long overdue). Frame is C50 in PRAL I need help with finding the perfect parts, and thought to put it on here as well, in case somebody has a lead to a shop, website or spares for sale. 1. White stem, 130mm White stems are hen's teeth it seems, and 130mm is a bit of a challenge to source too. Absolute 1st prize would be like the attached one, but no stock at the online shops. 2. White handlebar - not a fasionable colour atm. 3. Saddle - black with a bit of white highlights would be perfect. Ive been most happy on Selle Italia SLRs, have switched to riding the flow version at some point. I have a black and red as in the pic on my Eddy Merckx, cant find a white one online. Probably discontinued ????
  15. Bragging rights - the most expensive comodity in cycling....
  16. 12 Apostles trail. It has potenial - rocky parts takes a lot of effort to ride atm, parts are blocked of and some lines are not completed yet. But some nice bits there already.
  17. ...unless you live in a windy town, in which case +/- 35mm would be better imo.
  18. I agree with the shark: If you dont come right with the warranty, the probability of a lasting repair by welding is low. The welding process weakens the surrounding alu, and I dont think local welders have the equipment to heat treat the weld to full strength. I guess that the cast aluminium is a similar alloy to the frame, and would probably be even more difficult to weld. That said, it is fairly cheap to get a weld done - you could decide to risk it once.
  19. Winelands meander to finish the 500km. Roads were very quiet - nice for cycling, but sad for farmers.
  20. We rode Bain's Kloof pass today - very scenic.
  21. Banhoek Conservancy has Trails, and Bartinney has an awesome descent down the back slope of Botmaskop, called Skyfall.
  22. ???????? Nice day for a ride! (As I recall, I only did a finger wriggle, not a full wave - Im too nervous to wave on a fast descent)
  23. 4 Passes: Sir Lowry's - Viljoen's - Franschoek - Hellshoogte
