  2. The bike industry is somewhat unusual when it comes to model years. There is the year of model release (eg MY25, which will be a bike that is part of the brand's 2025 range of bikes), but that bike could potentially only sell in 2028. Many people quote the year of purchase, and not the brand's catalogue model year. I'm not saying this is what they are doing, but I just thought I'd put that out there to help explain some of it to you, possibly.
  3. I'll send you a DM
  4. Sprocket Bikes are imported and distributed by the same company that does Merida and Titan Racing, so you know you'll be in good hands when it comes to product, but also backup and support. www.sprocketbikes.co.za We have one at home and they are great quality bikes that, almost best of all, look the part! My wife's (who doesn't cycle) first comment was "I can see myself riding one of those!" and my kid's first comment was how light it is. That's the 24" model.
  5. We're well on our way...
  6. Wow, nobody assumed you're an idiot. Not even close. It genuinely comes across as if you're thinking UCI ban means the end of the wheel size forever and a day.
  7. I think you're missing the bit where if banned by the UCI, it won't be allowed at sanctioned events. they can still exist and be in use. Much like EPO, it's frowned upon in UCI events, but it still exists and can be used should you wish to.
  8. This reads like an American trying to explain the imperial system of units...
  9. Another gem from the article...
  10. From the article: The rim designation for 750d is 660, which is 38mm larger than 622 (700c/29"), which is 38mm larger than 584 (650b/27.5").
  11. The way I have it, road and gravel bikes will stick to their current wheel sizes. 32", for now at least, will be MTB specific. What frankenbikes hubbers come up with after that, no one will be able to predict.
  12. There are MANY other factors as well, but the move to 29er wheels did the wider industry no good. The added confusion between 29er and 27.5 made things even worse and changed how people shop, what bike shops stock and started a slow race to the cycling economics bottom. The first 29er was launched in 2002 by Gary Fischer. Giant launched their first 29er in 2010 (then moved to 27.5 in 2014 before admitting the error of their ways and making their way back to 29ers in 2017) Specialized launched its first 29er in 2011 Trek launched its first 29er in 2013 It took 8 - 10 years for the wider industry to catch on and for 29ers to go mass market. IT HAS TAKEN SINCE THEN for bike designers to TRULY get on top of bike design and geometry around 29" wheels. The rate of change since 2010 has been phenomenal. Other factors have, of course, contributed (droppers, 1x drivetrains, shorter stems with wider bars, the importance of reach, etc), yet some manufacturers are still battling to get on top of things. So, 32ers/32" will be faster over a small percentage of typical riding at launch. It will get better over a wider range of riding as time goes on. Design-wise, the first couple of years of 32ers will be rough going. Brands will have to build, stock and sell both wheel sizes until things pivot. Brands that are already battling to keep their doors open. Most likely, 32ers will kill off recreational gravel riding as a 32er will be MUCH faster than a gravel bike. UCI gravel racing will stick to gravel bikes as we know it, but if the market shifts, there will be little to no reason to keep gravel racing going if most consumers are buying 32ers. Stock will be a nightmare. Yes, it was a nightmare in 2010-2015 as well, but that was pre-COVID dramas. One can argue that the move to 29ers helped the bike market recover from the 2008/9 economic crash, but generally speaking, things weren't too bad back then. I'm sure most manufacturers would prefer not to develop a whole new range of bikes, while keeping their hardly floating current line-up going, hoping to ride out the wave till 32ers become mainstream enough to pay the bills. And guess what. 36ers will be even faster than 32ers...
  13. Tyger Valley is very close to the Tygerberg MTB Trails network. https://tygerbergmtb.co.za/ Take your pick from Anna Beulah Farm Bloemendal Wine Estate Contermanskloof Farm D'Aria Winery Hillcrest Wine Estate Hoogekraal Farm Meerendal Wine Estate Nitida Wine Farm As mentioned above, Majik Forest is also an option.
  14. Maximum wheel depth is also up for discussion (and when I say discussion, I mean the UCI will probably just force it through) https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/swiss-side-slams-ucis-new-rim-depth-rules-in-open-letter/ So too handlebar width https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci-doubles-down-on-handlebar-width-limits-and-maximum-gearing-test-despite-ongoing-criticism/ And fork/rear stay widths https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/has-the-uci-just-banned-factors-new-aero-bike-before-it-was-even-released/

  16. If your riding looks like the photos shared so far, then you most likely won't miss a MTB. For me, a gravel bike can replace my road bike, but not my MTB. I ride mostly single track trails, with some technical features, and a gravel bike won't cut it there at speed. Bottom line, it GREATLY depends on your riding.
  17. Bike Radar added this to their first ride review: https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bikes/electric-bikes/yt-decoy-core-4-first-ride-review
  18. Other than under Prize Money, there is no reference to a 200-miler on their site. Event info, Start Times, Waterpoints, Route Maps & Profiles, Event Support and Prize Giving all mention 100, 60 and 25 milers only.
  19. Saw this posted as a comment in one of the articles. "YT will continue to operate as normal, with customer support for any riders." This is simply not true. YT ran a 50% flash sale to do a cash grab from customers in full knowledge they were going to declare insolvency. See email I received from them today below. All the while, their website remains operational and taking new orders. I, alongside 2 other friends, ordered bikes 25-Jun-25 during what appeared to be a flash 50% sale. Most bikes in all sizes went out of stock within 24 hours. My confirmation email stated the bike would be ready for collection at their Guildford, UK store within 12 working days e.g. 11-Jul. I called the Guildford, UK store 11-Jul and they confirmed my bike was due to be shipped and arrive at the Guildford store this week ready for collection. I subsequently received the following email today: "Hello Young Talent, We regret to inform you that, due to ongoing insolvency proceedings, your order 1026296 has been put on hold. As your payment was received before the proceedings officially began, it is legally considered part of the insolvency estate. At this stage, we are unable to issue refunds or provide further details about the status of your payment. We understand how frustrating and disappointing this situation is, especially without a clear resolution. If you wish to explore your options, we recommend reaching out to your payment provider to inquire about potential next steps. We truly regret that we cannot offer you a better solution at the moment, and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Thank you again for your patience and understanding. Sincerely, Your YT Industries Team"

  24. Let me get this right. You did this one 20km ride this week. That correct? You did not do the Prologue at full tilt, suffered through Stage 1, the stage 2 time trial that even the proest pros said was more XCC than XCM and then took on the heat of stage 3 from the start line? Also, I doubt you were pacing yourself to try and make it to the finish line, and then do another 4 stages. If it is correct, how does that even remotely compare?
