  2. Yeah, his wife died and the kids are still in the UK so understandably he wants to return. 'm sure we will see him pop up at Renault soon enough. Brawn has come out with a firm "no", but you never know. The weekend Ferrari was moaning about the Allison rumours and three days later BOOM! They should just sign James Key and be done with it
  3. WTF? Allison and Ferrari part ways with immediate effect http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/allison-and-ferrari-part-ways-with-immediate-effect-802624/
  4. That will (most likely) be one seriously kick-ass bike. I'm a fan of shorter travel trail blazers.

  14. This. We don't really notice as thankfully most of us have never needed a true SOS emergency signal. But riding with the Gen3 and Trace (and paying close attention to cellphone signal) I quickly realized just how often I would be without any support should things go south. Parts of Jonkers, Contermans, Tokai (if I remember correctly from back in the day), Harkerville, Petrus se Brand, exploring Greyton and I'm sure many others all over our beautiful country all run out of signal somewhere along the way. Should I own a Gen3 (and I'm seriously considering it) it would go with my wife when she's out running or just on her way to the movies at night for girls' night. I will have it with me on my bicycle, motorbike and also when out driving. In an emergency there is a MASSIVE difference between having to hit a button and having to get out your phone, making a call in the hope that THAT contact will pick up. For example I travel the R300 with its DO NOT STOP signs often. Should a mechanical strike there sending a SPOT message will be quicker and "safer" than having to make a call. 1 button that notifies 10 contacts beats making a call. Note to self: next time include this in the review!
  15. You're thinking of Horton Hears a Who! Easy mistake to make.
  16. Hi Terry, Definitely works better than a cell based app purely as it has signal when and where a phone does not. Jumped on my motorbike ad headed into the wild with this and my cell and my check in messages always went through even when my cell had zero signal.
  17. The SPOT Gen3 is a personal GPS tracking and satellite messenger system that is designed to work with satellite-based communications and can be used for rescue, tracking and messaging where there are no mobile phone networks. Click here to view the article
  18. On the subject of comparing its RRP to that of a Reign there are a couple of things to consider. 1. Comparison is made assuming the same business model We know YT does direct, Giant does not so should be more affordable, right? Not quite. Giant owns their factories and produce millions of bikes a year. R&D costs are set off against several models so too overheads and marketing expenses. The international site lists 24 bikes on the MTB side alone. YT has 8 counting alu and carbon seperate. To put that in perspective: there are more Reigns in Giant's line-up than YT has bikes in total! Just having your own factories give you a MASSIVE advantage as there isn't a supplier in the chain who needs to make his cut and lead times could be shorter (as you call the shots). Also Giant spec own brand gear that once again should come in cheaper than having to buy from a manufacturer who's core business it is to make money off that sale. 2. "Payment" We don't know when or how these bikes are paid for. Forward cover, paying in Eur, USD or Yen all make a big difference. 3. Landed Cost Most manufacturers have tier system in place with importers. If it's a shop (like William's who do Ibis) the volumes will be lower and therefor he will pay more than a full on distributor with a network of shops. We don't know what the YT SA's deal is. (And rightly so) 4. Apples and Oranges Giant make some fine bikes that don't stand back for the best of them. Quite often they ARE the best of them. But we are comparing a mass producer with a niche, boutique brand here. For starters we should be looking at Santa Cruz, Ibis, Yeti and the likes for a real like for like. 5. Stock Levels / Order Quantities Again, not sure what the deal is, but I would assume YT SA bring n smaller qty's and will have to do so more often. Giant does several containers full of stuff further reducing costs.
  19. SRAM HQ does the paperwork and application as far as I know - not Cape Cycle Systems. In fact, reading the statement again: "Such application has been made by SRAM but as yet the Certification has not been awarded." Honest question: How does this affect you, Clinton? Do you have eTap on a bike or bought a groupset you now can't use?
  20. Would really like to know what the deal is here.
  21. You obviously meant to post this link https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/articles/videos/video-trail-hunter-jamaica-r5022?source=topic All is forgiven
  22. 90mm's maybe. Can't see them not having a XCO focused bike in the range. There's a definite gap. Still, some seriously cool bikes in the range. Lots of work went into these.
