  1. You should probably post this in the classifieds, add some more details about the bike and a couple of pictures.
  2. I'm also no pro but I use pretty much the same formula for long distance running, cycling, triathlons. - Have a decent meal the night before. I tend to have pasta but more out of habit and hearsay than it actually making a difference. - I have a fair sized portion of Future Life with water and not milk at least an hour and a half before the event. (I have an unstable stomach and don't want to risk the milk). - En route to the event and up to the start I'll take small sips of my 32GI or Hammer drink. I might have a banana too. - Then during the event I'll make sure to keep up my calorie intake with a combination of gels, supplements, solid foods, energy drinks and Coke. Keeping this step up is key and I have found that as I get into the event and get more tired, I don't want to eat my food anymore and that is when I fall apart. Keeping to a rough schedule works best for me. - After the event some protein for recovery and beers as a reward

  4. Hogsback is a lovely place. The Lord of the Chainrings 3-day stage event based there remains one of my favourites in terms of location.
  5. Good work! If that weld is even average then the wheel should hold up fine. It might just leak a bit of sealant and air past the rough edge where the tyre meets the rim. I like that the decal was stuck over the weld
  6. I reckon the easiest thing would be to use a hose clamp. Take a flat piece of aluminium drill two holes in it (if there is no way to get the clamp to hold the bracket). Thread the clamp through the two holes. Use an old piece of tube to wrap around the bar to protect it from the clamp. Mount your bracket using a couple of bolts to the piece of aluminium. Fasten the clamp. It may not look too pretty but it'll definitely work.

  8. I have been keeping my eye on the classifieds for a TT bike for a couple of months now. My biggest worry is getting the right size as fit seems very important. I am 170cm (about 5.7") and from most sizing charts I seem to be on the cusp between sizes 52 and 54. If I go test ride a bike how do I know if it is the right size or it'll be okay to be adjusted to fit correctly? Any advice?

  10. Go work for a year in HK, you will not regret it. I did it when I was 28, it was one of the best years of my life!

  12. Just to throw in something a little different. Some really good fast and flowing track at Waterval Boven, especially the Sappi Forest section and the downhill back to the road.

    swim sets

    Quick question. I am new to swimming training and the sets don't make complete sense to me. I think it is just some of the terminology I don't understand. What is catchup and pull? Do you have any recommendations for sets of about 1500-2000m or should I just look to scale down some of the sets that have been listed? I am just looking to improve my speed (although less important at this point) and my endurance.

  17. I didn't know this happened to so many other people while tapering. I thought it was just down to pre-race jitters. Good to know there is an actual reason that makes perfect sense!
  18. Westdene Cycles often has models that are a couple of years old. I got a HT Silverback 26" with XT components and decent fork at a good price that was 2 or 3 models behind the latest. If you go there be patient and look at all the bikes and do a little research afterwards if need be. Don't be talked into buying a model that you don't want though
  19. If Lyoness is not affiliated with the stores (which I am assuming it is not) then where is the money that is getting paid back come from. I haven't done too much reading but it really does have that ponzi feel to it.
  20. I did my first 70.3 this year and a mate and I were laughing at the same sort of things. We were amazed by the amount of compression gear being worn to the registration (and in general) and the number of people with pointy helmets. Anyway as it turns out, triathletes seem to be gear junkies that love wearing their onesies before and after the event
  21. The tool and the shifting spanner do work. You'll be surprised just how much you'll need to bend the rotor to correct it. With some patience you'll get it to a usable state but it will never be completely straight again.

  23. Bud, which hill do you use? 100m in 1km sounds like a good hill for repeats.
  24. I broke the hanger on my new bike's first proper ride. I had to break the chain in order to convert into a single speed so I could get home. There was no way I was throwing away a new chain and it has been fine with 2 quick links ever since. That includes plenty of weekend trail riding and a Sani2C.
