  1. Good article: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-Silence-That-Squeaky-Disc-Brake-2011.html
  2. I was just thinking that maybe he took his shoes off (I know I thought about doing it) but I see in a later post that guys do Comrades barefoot every year. That said I did see a guy doing the RAC 60km long run before Comrades last year running barefoot. I tried it out earlier this year (only because I forgot my shoes at home one day) and landed up with some nice bruising under my feet. Obviously there is a long process getting into barefoot running but I think I'll stick to my minimalist shoes!
  3. Yes, definitely agree with you guys. Some of the best rides I have ever had have been there. One that comes to mind was a short ride through the forest and down the hill across the road from Tranquilitas. It was late afternoon heading into winter so the grass was long and brown and the sun was going down. With the grassy swaying in the wind and the light from the setting It was picture perfect and we were riding in it. (In fact so perfect it resulted in my getting a go-pro but have obviously never even come close to recapturing my memory).
  4. Grumpy?
  5. Well done, you smashed it!
  6. I am not condoning running a red light nor am I saying that people shouldn't man up when they know they have done something wrong (in fact I strongly believe people must deal with the consequences of their actions, no pleading ignornance especially when they know they are doing or have done something wrong), I just reckon that this case is somewhat of a pointless exercise.
  7. But is it mandatory to carry your ID / driver's license while cycling? As far as I was aware it isn't which means you can just say you aren't completely sure of your ID number. Therefore issuing a fine is somewhat of pointless exercise but it will certainly make an offender think twice going forward.
  8. I have a forerunner 910 and I'm fairly sure they have to reseal the unit (vacuum I think) after replacing the battery to help prevent moisture getting in. I am not sure if it is the same thing for the 500 but at R1300 I'd probably be doing it myself.
  9. Yeah, I am agreeing with you completely I would never solely base my views on what bike to buy on what the pros are riding at an event like the Epic.
  10. What are you talking about the Epic is the be all and end all of mountain biking. Loads of awesome trails, good single track with time to enjoy the views and banter with your mates. And above all else it is fun.
  11. From what I have seen looking at items previously it is just products sold on Amazon but marked up big time. There is no advantage (if there is I couldn't see it) buying from want it all instead of directly from Amazon.
  12. Hehe, out of these: http://www.gift-box.com.au/giftbox/images/HTFU-Coffee-Mug-Black_L.png
  13. That said, they seem somewhat overpriced: http://www.buycycle.co.za/components/time-trial/handlebars/profile-design-en-2-3-4-5-6-7/profile-design-handlebar-triathlon-t2-black-profile-design.html
  14. Thanks bud, I missed the one in Bryanston.
  15. I have finally given up on buying a TT bike for IM and am going to go the clip on route. I have done a couple of 5 hour ride and I am just looking for some more variation in possible positions. So, can anyone recommend any? And then where can I get them in JHB? Thanks for any help.
  16. With the cable detached from the derailleur are you able to push the mech to the upper limit easily?
  17. I reckon it is one of the best in JHB.
  18. Oh I forgot to add mine is the standard M770. But I reckon the shadow cages will be the same too.
  19. I replaced that part on my 9 speed XT with one from a 10 speed as they seem to be exactly the same. I'll now probably get told otherwise but the only difference I could see between the 9 and 10 speed derailleur are the sprockets (obviously) and the location of the cable fastener. On the 10 speed the fastener is further out which means it takes more travel from the cable and shifter to move it from one end to the other. Initially I had thought I could just switch over the sprockets and use the 10 speed derailleur but the 9 speed shifter does not have enough travel to move the 10 speed mech through all the gears. In short, if you don't come right just pick up a cheap 2nd hand 10 speed derailleur and switch over the cage.
  20. Agreed. I even got a free copy of the Full Sus newspaper with my last order!
  21. You should probably post this in the classifieds, add some more details about the bike and a couple of pictures.
  22. I'm also no pro but I use pretty much the same formula for long distance running, cycling, triathlons. - Have a decent meal the night before. I tend to have pasta but more out of habit and hearsay than it actually making a difference. - I have a fair sized portion of Future Life with water and not milk at least an hour and a half before the event. (I have an unstable stomach and don't want to risk the milk). - En route to the event and up to the start I'll take small sips of my 32GI or Hammer drink. I might have a banana too. - Then during the event I'll make sure to keep up my calorie intake with a combination of gels, supplements, solid foods, energy drinks and Coke. Keeping this step up is key and I have found that as I get into the event and get more tired, I don't want to eat my food anymore and that is when I fall apart. Keeping to a rough schedule works best for me. - After the event some protein for recovery and beers as a reward
  23. Swim, cycle, run... can't go wrong
