  1. +1 No point peeing away money into the wind
  2. Does anyone know of people offering video analysis and stroke correction in JHB?
  3. You may need to use a compressor to give a big initial burst or air to start sealing the tyre. Sometimes, especially if the tyre has been sitting flat for some time, pumping with a floor or hand pump just results in the air escaping past the tyre before giving the type the right shape and getting it to seal. If you don't have a compressor you can try fiddling with the tyre to make it fit better against the rim and pumping vigorously. But you might struggle especially if the old sealant is sticking the tyre to itself, giving it a funny shape.
  4. Spruit seems a little drier than usual... Great ride though!
  5. Assuming you haven't already, you could first try reducing the pressure.
  6. Hmmm.... the Northcliff Melville Times, sometimes it seems their articles are on par with the Daily Sun's. I'd say a pinch of salt may be in order.
  7. This thread has (not unexpectedly) derailed quickly. However, that diagram you have provided is quite interesting. Less going on in the recovery phase than I think I had assumed. I'd be interested to see others that compare muscle usage during the pedal phases for different bicycle geometries. I'd particularly like to see for a TT bike.
  8. Good article: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-Silence-That-Squeaky-Disc-Brake-2011.html
  9. I was just thinking that maybe he took his shoes off (I know I thought about doing it) but I see in a later post that guys do Comrades barefoot every year. That said I did see a guy doing the RAC 60km long run before Comrades last year running barefoot. I tried it out earlier this year (only because I forgot my shoes at home one day) and landed up with some nice bruising under my feet. Obviously there is a long process getting into barefoot running but I think I'll stick to my minimalist shoes!
  10. Yes, definitely agree with you guys. Some of the best rides I have ever had have been there. One that comes to mind was a short ride through the forest and down the hill across the road from Tranquilitas. It was late afternoon heading into winter so the grass was long and brown and the sun was going down. With the grassy swaying in the wind and the light from the setting It was picture perfect and we were riding in it. (In fact so perfect it resulted in my getting a go-pro but have obviously never even come close to recapturing my memory).
  11. I am not condoning running a red light nor am I saying that people shouldn't man up when they know they have done something wrong (in fact I strongly believe people must deal with the consequences of their actions, no pleading ignornance especially when they know they are doing or have done something wrong), I just reckon that this case is somewhat of a pointless exercise.
  12. But is it mandatory to carry your ID / driver's license while cycling? As far as I was aware it isn't which means you can just say you aren't completely sure of your ID number. Therefore issuing a fine is somewhat of pointless exercise but it will certainly make an offender think twice going forward.
  13. I have a forerunner 910 and I'm fairly sure they have to reseal the unit (vacuum I think) after replacing the battery to help prevent moisture getting in. I am not sure if it is the same thing for the 500 but at R1300 I'd probably be doing it myself.
  14. Yeah, I am agreeing with you completely I would never solely base my views on what bike to buy on what the pros are riding at an event like the Epic.
  15. What are you talking about the Epic is the be all and end all of mountain biking. Loads of awesome trails, good single track with time to enjoy the views and banter with your mates. And above all else it is fun.
