  1. My wife loves riding... flowers, birds, sea. Time with kiddo. happy days. Trailer adds 30% to my workout, i.e. both wife and I get a decent workout. Will it be enough training for a sub 3 Argus - no. Does that matter to me - no.
  2. Am sure we can answer that ourself, if we apply our mind.
  3. ok, when you get up from rolling on the floor, ask yourself if the worker you call "idiot" is the one responsible for the road maintenance schedule f-ups in Joburg?
  4. Firstly well done to the guys fixing the road. Not sure if legal or not or if it lasts for more than one rainy day. At least something is being done. However - your calling the unskilled labor who earn pretty much the same as you probably spend on your cell phone or a few bike services "idiots" in general is simply arrogant and no, arrogance does not make your statement more credible or correct.
  5. What really reflects the sad state of our "shelfish" society, besides decreasing grammar skills, is the fact that we moan, call names, make our grudges public on social media, but don't get our ass off the couch to actually change it (and maybe make other hubbers aware of the vet's achievements rather than calling everyone who doesn't know about it ignorant. A bit like the ANCYL today in Cape Town, they protest against lack of service delivery and want to leave the city "ungovernable" - but have not forwarded any constructive plan. There we go, I pulled politics into this forum...

    2012 94.7

My first 94.7 exciting! Have no idea what to expect. Flying up the day before and hoping for the best...
  7. Dude, really. You spent the entrance fee, petrol to get there, probably had your bike services, bought gels and snacks, made piece with the fact you won't spend time with your loved ones, got up early to get there - and pussied out because of R30 bucks?!!
  8. would love to - but I think my wife, child and credit card wouldn't want me to stay over much longer... at this point I am attempting to fly out of OR Tambo the same day... (so yes, I am hoping for a good seeding...)
  9. Bought my first entry for the 94.7 and flights from CPT today - can't wait to ride through Hillbrow... :-)
  10. i think it is a Volkswagen Amarok. Nice car!
  11. Thanks Janette.. that does help :-)
  12. have now spend 10 minutes trying to find route info / maps / profile - am I too stooopid, or can anyone help? thanks
  13. why, it is is quite exceptional to find a LBS that answers phone calls and is capable of replying to emails.... :-)
  14. yes, good idea - saddle's not touching the wall, but bar ends and shifters (esp. on road bike) could get scratched without.
  15. So, my wife struggles to shift the front derailleur (SLX) on her 2 x 10 MTB, due to an abnormally short thumb (due to her being abnormally short, one could say...). I suggested bolting a thumb extension onto her thumb, but didn't go down to well. I am not flush right now, so the option of buying a new 2 x 10 gripshift is not going to happen. Is it possible to just replace the front shifter with a 3 x ... gripshift one can pick up cheaper. Would it be possible to adjust it in a way she can uses it to change between the 2 front blades or does the 3 x shifter not work at all? thanks
  16. it took me 20 year of riding to figure out a quick, cheap, convenient way of storing bikes - after I read this thread I tried it too. it is amazing, you can set gears etc while bikes are on the wall:
  17. why is that? just got one and am nervous now, after that statement...
  18. what's a "fun ride"?
  19. well, I usually feel so bad that after a while I try the front. then, 20 seconds later, I feel worse cause everyone has overtaken me again cause I am too slow.
  20. So I thought I do the manly thing this weekend, hire a trailer to put behind the car, drive to the suburbs and buy load of fire wood for me, the in-laws and a mate before cleaning out the garden refuse and taking that to the dump. you know, the hairy-chest-manly-Saturday-stuff. Except that the fire wood (30 km drive) was all wet as they hadn't bothered covering it during the week of rain. So I didn't get any, but called some contact - who said he'd deliver the wood the same day, at a cheaper rate. Awesome, except I had a trailer - so I made them pack half of it into my garage, the other half onto the trailer and took it to the in laws, the friend and then back home. Coffee with the wife and kid, while car parked outside. You know where this goes. I feel like a chop. It's not covered against theft, and probably repainted by now. Anyone know a good place to purchase trailers in Cape Town?
  21. just the fact that it "irritates you" says it all - those flashing lights not only make you more visible (i.e. be a very strange light amidst those half sleeping car lights), but also lulls oncoming drivers into epileptic shock resulting in them moving of the road altogether.
  22. Seriously, if I had spent the same amount of time training as I wasted reading these noobhead threads that re-appear on the hub over and over, I'd be riding in London this week. but damn, I was fooled again, hoping to learn anything valuable about riding here. (but I also hadn't discovered the "tat/tit" thread, which would be a loss...).
  23. not sure if here or in the Olympics thread...
