  1. OR he is the one with the small "thingy", ie. electric motor naturally AND a "wit bakkie" .............
  2. 03 March 2019
  3. Did the single stage Trans-Xhariep in 2019. 315km of relentless headwind and heat that still wake me up in a cold sweat .......................... 🤢 Never again is probably too soon
  4. 22 minutes and the lynch mob have'nt responded yet 😏 They must be out on the golf course.
  5. It is called a "ganglion cyst", common in, but not limited to hands and/or wrists. They seem to appear randomly after truama to the bone, joint or tendon. Had such a cyst 2 years after a radial fracture of my wrist. Ortho surgeon drained it and dozed me with cortizone. Its been gone for 8 years now. Google "ganglion"
  6. True ☝️ At the office complex, security was instructed to check the boot of each car exiting ....................................... so, that is exactly what they do - check the boot. When asked what they are looking for, the stare says it all.
  7. Given the prominence of Chappies, it blows the mind that all lookouts are not under camera surveillance. My toll fee surely pays for more than just the right to use the road within the ambit of the Road Traffic Act and Conditions of Use as defined by the toll collector. The operator must do everything in their power to provide a minimum level of safety to those paying toll fee. The same applies to our iconic mountain passes in the Western Cape. With Bainskloof on my doorstep, I ride it frequently. The parking spot before "Gawie se Water", going up from Wellington side, is notorious for binge sessions in broad daylight - any day of the week. At times it gets to the point where these "smashed" individuals harass cyclists going up. Often you can hear the glass bottles being broken against rocks as you approach that spot. I often wonder how they can afford this lifestyle, but not appear to earn a salary by working like most of us do. Despite reports to the authorities, nothing is known to have happened following complaints. Have alcohol, will drink ................ Enforcement is the only chance we have at eradicating this problem, but we have the answer to this suggestion.
  8. Saw the news article below, and I realized again that distractions, ie. texting, pose a constant threat to all road users, regardless the time of day or month. I witness this daily during my 100km commute. In SA, however, the perpetrator generally walks away on a technicality or be handed a suspended sanction. https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/outrage-as-woman-who-killed-cyclist-during-fourth-texting-and-driving-crash-has-sentence-slashed/ar-AA1WfoM5?ocid=winp2fptaskbarhoverent&cvid=698eafcfcba84feca6c9e94db8bfde98&ei=28&cvpid=698eb01279bf4adc81fe3f7da8ae12cf
  9. Agree with @Alouette3 The FEVA is a brilliant solution for kids with stronger neck and arms. The experience for them is also very interactive since they hold onto the handlbars. The steerer mounted bucket seats are perfect for smaller toddlers, ie.18mths+, BUT I found that it restricted my movements on the bike. They sit high enough to clear the top tube for steering, but the top of the seat prevents the rider from reaching the controls on flat bars. These work great on city cruiser type bikes with raised bars. Then there is the rear mounted bucket seats which I never fancied, purely because I felt removed or "detached" from my boy. I enjoyed sharing the scenery with him until he started sharing whatever he saw with me. You cannot do this with a rear mounted seat, yet many parents prefer the latter option. Thule have both front and rear mounted seats - but expect to pay. There are many cheaper options.
  10. Just this morning again saw a MTB'er on the R44 between Klapmuts and Wellington without any lights. This was 06:00 with light conditions still poor - all vehicles were driving with headlights on. Given the distance from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Klapmuts or Wellington, my guess is this rider left his residence in total darkness. This was not a worker commuting to his place of work either. That stretch of the R44 is notorious for speeding traffic and reckless driving, despite having a 100km/h speed limit. WTF guys, we have to take some accountability for our own safety. This rider appeared out of nowhere like a ghost. Be lekker ............
  11. Shimano chains(11/12) are directional. Branding should face outward. I am purely guessing that this could also contribute to your problem if fitted inside out. If not ..... please ignore this post 🫣
  12. Very true @Martin Albrecht Rather than chasing the latest or newest fashion, stick to what works for you. When it comes to bikes there is no such thing as "one style fits all".
  13. Agree with you @ChrisF I have used CBR on a number of occasions, and super impressed every time 👌 As @BuffsVintageBikes mentioned - few people truly grasp the amount of elbow grease required to prep and detail a carbon frame when being repaired/resprayed.
  14. enter ........ DUCT TAPE 🪚💥
  15. Imagine the next fashionable thing is lowering your bike 😵‍💫 I was about to hint at the "low" culture where VTec's crawl over speed bumps sideways while they sound like the proverbial Tasmanian devil in a stocking .......
  16. Definitely your age boet 👨‍🦳 I feel your pain
  17. Cyclist(s) on the right was overtaking a slower rider. Look closely at the guy on the right and you will see the right shoe of another cyclist on whose wheel he sits as they pass the slower rider. The VW, despite a solid line, had unobstructed view of approaching traffic. You will noticexthecroad ahead snaking upwards, turning to the driver side rrom where the driver would have had a rather clear view. Yes, solid line hence no overtaking BUT whom of us have never taken a calculated risk like this after doing your risk assessment before overtaking safely. A terriblycrisky call by thecdriver was not pulling this move on a solid line but doing so by squeezing between joggers and cyclists. Situational awareness was tossed out the window by everybody in the picture, yet the motorist ran the biggest risk of killing somebody by pulling this stunt at that exact point. This incident was a perfect storm. Stay safe ya'll and have a great new years celebration. 🥳
  18. Don't forget the fake Falke socks, Nikes and Hadidas running shoes to promote jogging along the route 😏 Trailer drawn stocks would be delivered by white walled D4D HiAce .......................... oh yes, once offloaded, the dingbat behind the wheel will make a U-turn to head back to "Slaapstad" to collect more fake merch. We live way too close to Africa ........
  19. I will not enter into ☝️ debate of who's allowed on Chappies or not, BUT this toxic concoction is allowed by the toll operator and local lawmakers. The brainless choices of all road users are condoned while the WC's coffers are stuffed with tourist AND local holiday spenditure.
  20. The lynch mob must be on vacation ......... Surely the motorist is the only idiot in this pic 🤔
  21. https://novanews.co.za/tragedie-tref-paarl-tienerfietsryer-en-bekende-sakeman-sterf/?fbclid=IwVERDUAO5yGVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAwzNTA2ODU1MzE3MjgAAR5-Y82649R9A6o-RJ9yVKSAft3eXbEJNXVIQddEghYFqpAy3bNRuX7cCJq87w_aem_UDqqvYlffh9dIxd_pV0zHg 16-yr old cyclist killed in Paarl by driver allegedly under the influence. When will the carnage stop 😭
  22. Alcohol abuse and distraction are probably the major causes of incidents where cyclists are hit by vehicles, yet the general stupidity and blatant disregard of traffic safety rules by motorists blows the mind. Returned from the south coast via the Hugenot tunnel earlier today. The traffic along the N2 was next level. Apart from speeding in heavy rain at times, reckless overtaking on blind rises and turns, I counted 7 cars northbound inside the tunnel without headlight switched on. Our problem goes far deeper than alcohol abuse. Disregard for driver, vehicle and other road users is endemic. Between George and Paarl ...... I noticed only 2 highway patrol beemers stationary along the road.
  23. 1) I am yet to meet a lawyer who would advise any driver to admit guilt, even if guilty. They argue that you poke your chances of a good defence full of holes by "making life easy for the court" to prove your guilt. 2) Corporates with many drivers further instruct their drivers to never admit guilt on an accident scene. The company I work for is but one of these. To conclude, in SA law, he who charges must prove guilt. Our constitution appears to favour the accused - never the deceased or injured.
  24. The problem is not a lack of legislation, but rather positive convictions. Good SC's are found in the private sector at tremendous cost. These suits usually wipe the floor with the prosecuting skills SA has, hence the low % of convictions. The NPA is a national body where Winde has zero influence. He is trying very hard to have law enforcement authority delegated from SAPS to the Western Province government. I believe SAPS/Authorities were made aware of the piss up in the streets by these thugs before this incident happened. This is simply a lawless country 🤬
  25. The law states that you must stop at the accident scene, or report as soon as practically possible - not the next day or 200km from where the incident took place. The most probable reasons why drivers wont stop in daylight are driving under the influence and/or neglegent driving. Why would you not stop if the incident was not your fault? ..... unnless you are driving without licence, stolen vehicle, etc. Apparently the driver in the one incident attempted to conceal evidence by taking his car to the car wash shortly after the incident. The laws are in place. The problem is the application of these laws by those supposedly equipped to make them work for the innocent.
