  1. Continental Race Kings, Maxxis Crossmarks. I am currently running Racing Ralphs TL on my 26" gravel grinder. Best is you still get them online
  2. Like @Mamil noted ...................................... "Funny how there's always an ou something on these rides... Ouberg... Ouplaas... Ou man.... " Add Grootvader to your list 😅 Chauvinist dogs .........................
  3. 😂 Never take a stick to a gunfight. You might just get hurt (Author unknown)
  4. May I hijack the OP's thread 🤷‍♂️ Been looking for 7800 (Dura Ace 10spd) hoods. Seems that 7800/7900 lever hoods are nowhere to be found. The reproduction hoods for sale cover any model you can think of ............ except the 7800 & 7900 models. Mine are still in good nic, but I'd like to get a replacement set just'in. Cheers
  5. Just a comment on bike insurance if I may. The prices of 2nd hand mid2top tier bikes have gone through the proverbial roof. No need to look further than TheHub's classifieds. Naturally this has had a major negative impact on insurance costs. Obviously my next question is rhetorical, BUT who can still afford bike insurance given the prescribed maintenance costs on a 100k MTB, race entry fees, affiliation fees, etc? I'm still smoldering after stating in another thread that 26ers and rim brakes will never become extinct. This very topic is yet another motivation for my sentiments on "old" technology. Spare components will become harder to find, yet you can find everything in the global village aka www. This is madness, and not unique to the cycling universe.
  6. EVERYBODY form that era doped ................................. LA just happened to be the fastest of the lot 🤙 He also happens to be the only one that never tested positive ...................
  7. Agree with @Jewbacca. In 30 years time the 35 stage wins will stand behind sir Cav's name ..................... not the fact that it was probably as a result of 35 mad dashes to the white line over the last 200 meters of 200km'ish stages. Impressive nevertheless to put #35 in the bag at age 38. The laaities around him were like blood hounds after a three legged rabbit.
  8. Horner's dissemination of team tactics throughout each stage is informative and sometimes intriguing, but he often goes off on a tangent with cyclebabble than I can't figure out. Still very entertaining to watch his daily highlight package 🤙
  9. 👂-say if you ask me ..............
  10. Me thinks the Pog's gonna give everybody the middle finger treatment ......... UAE included. He is hell bent on taking Yellow, Green and Polkadot come Nice.
  11. From the @Zebra's mouth 😜 Spoke to another hubber earlier this week and he mentioned the crazy deal he got on the TheHub. He bought a grand set of rim brake wheels for next to nothing. If you had been contemplating a wheel upgrade, now's the best time to own a rim brake roadbike. People are getting rid of their good quality rim brake wheels, or complete rim brake road bikes for that matter, at very reasonable prices ............... where an upgrade to disc brake is the most likely driver for the sale. Bottomline is that older technology simply moves around. It does not end up in a crusher somewhere. What a great time to be a cyclist I say 🤙
  12. Only reason I am asking this question is that I can recall hearing the same argument when 29'ers saw the light so many years ago, I can't even remember. The fact is that less 26'ers are sold than back then, BUT fact is also that 26" has seen a revival second to none. You can find 26er frames and components with relative ease despite their "end-of-life" fear mongering over the past 15 years. Many hubbers still own 26ers and would not part with them for any money in the world. These hubbers also own 29ers or 650B's. Same argument holds water with rim brakes "disappearing". They will never disappear purely because 60% of recreational cyclists cannot afford to buy or maintain disc brake systems. Marketing yadda-yadda if you ask me. The fact that many cyclists can afford new technology does not imply that current/old tech would simply disappear. I enjoy riding my 30 year-old 26er and love every moment on a steel framed bike with cantilever rim brakes. Yes, I also happen to own a fancy duel-suss carbon 29er. 26ers and rim brakes will outlive most of hubbers 👊 Old's cool
  13. "Rim brakes are on it's way out, like a 26'' MTB." Says who 🤷‍♂️
  14. Had a Continental Race King 26''x2.2 do the exact same thing. Like you say, it is a squishing sound like liquid being forced through a pinhole. This is what was happening. The tyre delaminated on the centre-line of the tread. It first I could not see any bulging, but after spinning the tyre very slowly I managed to spot a tiny bulge. A blister basically formed between the 2 layers of rubber and sealant was being squeezed between the main cavity and the blister. Your ammonia based tyre sealants often cause delamination in TL tyres. Naturally I cannot say that it was caused by the tyre sealant, BUT enough evidence out there suggests that the sealant might have caused the blistering.
  15. James Perry at CBR in Durbanville.
  16. They are brand specific. I guess some brands use matching internals, but best to check with your LBS.
  17. I got the chainstay from Specialized Tygerberg(Bellville) 86 Edward Rd, Oakdale, Cape Town 021-910 1563 The Epic Comp, FSR and S-Works used the same component. They could not find an alloy component at the time(2017). Best of luck 👊
  18. Broke the rear triangle on my 2013 Epic Comp 29 and could not find a replacement allu triangle. Ended up fitting a carbon chainstay which looked quite cool and held up for a few years until I replaced the bike with a full carbon dual-suss. With the carbon tubing being bigger, I had to fit a longer main pivot shaft. A carbon rear triangle will work just fine, since a replacement alloy triangle would probably break/crack again.
  19. The OP stated that he might be transporting bikes for extended periods, ie. holidays etc. I'd be nervous to have 2 bikes hanging from the rear hatch for long periods on your typical SA roads. Short stints from home to the start of a ride is perfectly fine, yet extended travelling could place more weight and wear on the hatch than I'd be comfortable with. Then again, I have never used one of these myself.
  20. I am of the opinion that too much is made of lighting on the TB. I have completed 8, hence I think I speak from experience. Did my first 2 with a Led Lenser H7 headlight which pushes around 300 lumens. Being a team event, you should theoretically never find yourself in the sticks solo. Team mates would always be at hand with lights to provide lumens in those places where you might require more lighting. The H7 has an insane battery life of close to 20 hours on a low setting. The only section where you might want good lighting is the descent from Bergplaas. You are raving mad to speed down that mountain even in broad daylight. From the bottom towards Patensie it is good winding gravel roads. The last single track along the railway line is technical in some places, BUT you do not carry the speed that warrant 1000 lumens. It is a narrow trail and winds along the railway line. The H7 or the cheap 900 lmn lights mentioned in this thread is sufficient. More lumens, more battery capacity required. The latest generation LED technology packs serious lumens with low drain on your battery. Takealot sells a FLUIR light with handlebar bracket for around R480. This is a 900 lumens unit with 4 brightness levels + strobe option. No additional battery packs. My son completed the 36ONE with 1 of these + 1 spare(not required). Enjoy the TB 🤙
  21. Agree with @Jewbacca We forget that there is a team director calling the shots from the comfort of an airconditioned luxury team car. Whatever the Pog is doing surely happens with the blessing of his team leadership. It is still early days in this tour. What you steal now, you have to repay later.
  22. Nobody took this strategy to extent that "Il Pirata" did, yet he failed to put the so-called gains to full use. He opted to stuff himself with narcotics instead and finally paid the ultimate price. What a loss to cycling and aerodynamic engineering in general 😭
  23. This won't be the case with the next 9 stages ............................. Le Tour is smoken 💥
  24. From the various slow-mo angles it looks like Girmay got himself boxed and made a number of desperate attempts to elbow/shoulder riders both left and right out of the way. Can't say that Casper did anything wrong ............. well, on this occasion
  25. Cheap skate 😵 How about 55k cash ☝️
