  1. Debbie at Trail and Tar does the Specialized set up. I have been to Dr. Swart and her. I find her setup much better suited to me. Plus it was half the price.
  2. Why are they using rands in America??
  3. Also on E... I mean in E. I think this is the wrong forum. Where the hell am I.
  4. Cornels!! I don't think anyone on the hub can ride a cornel. I don't even know what that is. As for tyres you probably need The Captain Control 2Bliss Tyre by Specialized. I have only ever used these tyres and from my personal view they are the best bang for buck tyre out there. They work well everywhere and are pretty strong. I will be using them again for the Epic. Good luck and enjoy the race.
  5. Yeah I am also done with helping others. Sometimes I get my stuff back most times not. Tired of carrying all my stuff to give to others. I carry what I need and always feel sorry for guys with mechanicals. From now on I am going to pass them with a smile on my face unless they are flashing a R200 note in the air.
  6. A welding machine!! They pretty heavy.
  7. Big stage? Let's call it more bang for your buck. The longer you are on your bike the more value for money you get. The pros are sponsored so they don't worry about this kind of thing. If I spend 8 days at 10 hours per day I get more for my money than them. Ok ok it that's rubbish!!
  8. Lift to race?
  9. So far good advice. For real you only need to try and enjoy yourself. The minute you stop that it becomes hard work and your mind will want your body to stop. Just keep going. Unless you are coming last there is someone out there having a harder time than you. Help your partner as much as you can. It is a 2 way street out there.
  10. Yeah nice budget. Nothing like doing it correctly the first time round. You probably going to save yourself huge bucks. If I used that as my first budget I would have saved plenty. Good luck. Rocky Mountain have come on the scene in a big way and sponsor some top guys I think. Give them a look at.
  11. Cool. Nice machine. Not sure if it was the one I saw at Epic bike shop the other day. Very cool indeed.
  12. Very nice! Can I ask 2 questions. I can see you have pimped it out very well. 1. Why Crankbrothers and not Eggbeaters? 2. Why Hope skewers? They are very nice looking (I have them) but they are heavy compared to KCNC ones. Have you done it the way you have, to look and make you feel good. Or have you done it purely for weight. Not criticising at all. It is a super machine. Just curious on those points.
  13. That's not a goody bag!! That's like Christmas.
  14. Why not wait till the end of the Epic and see how the ladies do on 29'rs and maybe ask their opinion. It is only a few weeks away.
  15. Will all the top guys be there this afternoon?.. or only from tomorrow? I was looking for something to do.
  16. Salt tablets from the chemist. I pop 2 about every hour. What your body doesn't need it will get rid of. Simple.
  17. Right there you point out the problem but are leading the charge against it.
  18. Yes I am doing the Epic. This is my second. I am also getting the drive train replaced. It is time for it to be done. Also waiting on some new wheels so very excited for them to get done. Slap on some new tyres and it will be ready to go. I ride a 29'r hardtail so one can hope that there is not much to go wrong!! Famous last words hey! I will go over my bike a few days before the race and make sure I am happy. Taking a spare set of hoops in the car but that is just in case something happens. If one breaks on a race day you have to make a plan to the end of that day. Good luck with the lasy few weeks of prep. It is going to be a tough one .
  19. 2010 a friend brooke a wheel. Ran to the end. Got if fixed at some shop. Nothing he could do. They finished. There are lots of guys there. If you are unsure go for the high cost. It might make you sleep better. I very rarely see these guys do anything but strip, clean and re-assemble bikes. Most of them don't even do it properly and end up making a mistake which is normally very costly to the rider. Get it serviced before you start. It is just a 800km ride. How often do you normally get your bike serviced?
  20. Thought it was in the name!!
  21. You can do it with a single bomb then pump it up with the floor pump. It is probably easier than taking the front wheel off, getting into the car with the bike, driving to the shop, getting out, asking someone (who you have just had issues with) to fix another of your problems. Cheaper too. But then maybe this guy is loaded. He does have 2 serious bikes there.
  22. Maybe his real name is..."Black Adder"
  23. Indeed. I think the best part is he worked at a bike shop as a mechanic and can't do a tubeless conversion. No wonder his batteries are "recharged"
  24. Many Lemons- sorry still no idea. I have only be living here for 9 years. I do mtb so not much help either!! Dylan- you are not going to find much flat in Cape Town for mtb'ing unless you go to Koeberg. Try Tokai. I ride there and it might be alittle hard to start but keep at it you will get used to it. If you can try some of the races. There are normaly a few distances so you can go the easy route till you feel the need to hammer the longer one. Enjoy and good luck with the stares!!
  25. Where is Wetton? Mountain or road?
