  1. Great event indeed. Loved every minute of it. Thanks to all involved. Loved the shirts at the end what a nice idea. 8 hours 16 minutes I was happy to spend on the bike.
  2. That's too funny. My partner said he had a squeak from the back brakes. We took his wheel off and he had no pads left. I asked him if his bike was still slowing down enough for him. He said yes. We looked at each other started laughing and got going again.
  3. I forget at the moment. They are in Cape Town. Also ask your bike shop and a few others. There is a good chance you will find a good second hand one. Try Cape Cycle Systems in Cape Town for more info. They are not bad guys at all. They have always helped me out 100%.
  4. It will look worse if you try and repair it. Get some new lowers or look around for a second hand one. Then swop them over. Should do the trick.
  5. Phone Lance at Epic bike shop. I think he knows a guy who does very good work.
  6. You are so right. That is how I broke my hip.. Not paying attention. I hope the recovery goes as good as it can. Try get on the bike at gym as soon as you can!!
  7. Treadmill! That is for running on. Not sure what you are asking here? Not sure who Gim is either.
  8. Epic = R40 000 for 850kms. Worms can open!! Ha ha!!
  9. Ghostbusters!!
  10. Dude why do you tell people what to do? This is an open forum and if someone wants to have a laugh then so be it. I thought it was funny. You go round telling people what to do and what the forum rules are. Really. Spend more time at your job and less time running the hub.
  11. Once you have done it you will see why. You don't need that much training if you are already reasonably fit. People go out for all sorts of reasons. Can you believe it even the pros and I am pretty sure they put in the training. You go out because of bad luck. It happens. When you ride it you will see. I hope you enjoy it as I have dont twice in the past. My best advice has always been to take everything you have with 2 cups of humour. The rainy day this year was fun cause we treated it that way. It was hard for sure and the bikes were in pieces by the end but we kept lauging and joking and at the end we made it in a pretty good time. We passed people getting frustrated and it made their situation worse. Look forward to your race report.
  12. I might be wrong here but this is what I think. The reason that happens to paint is because the frame has been damaged. Either the surface has stretched and the paint doesn't fit or it compacted and then went back to original. This is what I think. I crashed my bike and bent the front down tube and all round the head tube that sort of crack happened. This is beacuse the product has changed shape. Luckily my frame was badly damaged so insurance paid for a new one. However this is just my though. Are there no engineers on this site who can confirm this? Mayeb I am talking rubbish but it made sence to me. My frame was aliminium. What material is your made of?
  13. Ja it was rubbish. That corvette they had going though was rather nice. Watched half of it before I fell asleep on the couch. (no picture added) Top gear Aus was also a load of crap. Without Clarkson that show is nothing!!
  14. Concentrate on the bike first. Be VERY careful when buying second hand. Go with someone who knows about bikes. It may look like a deal but could end up costing you a fortune to get trail ready. Look around. A friend of mine picked up a new Giant something or another for around 8K from the shop on Landsdown road so there are deals out there. If I see something in the next day or 2 I will pm you. Once you have the bike worry about the next problem. Until then I suggest forget about anything else until you have a good machine that fits you. There is a weekend coming up so go to the shops in your area and play them against each other. See what they can do. Most are pretty helpful and once you have started spending money in their shops they know you will be back with more rands so if they are worth anything they will try and look after you. Good luck and keep us up to date.
  15. Champix is king. That stuff is really good. You must want to quit though for it to work. I used it. Now the idea is to keep away from smokers.
  16. Those are cycling pants. Those are cycling pants. Dude you are funny. If you don't like those get a pair of baggies. Thing is, baggies (for me) are not comfortable. Don't worry by the time you shave your legs all your friends would have lost respect for you!! Lycra is just the start.
  17. Try William at his shop then. Bring your jokes to the race. We gonna need them if it is raining.
  18. That would be my opinion. Think you can get one for about R7K now. What area do you live in?
  19. Good luck. I am also doing it so might see you there. You can get a 29'r hardtail for cheap these days. Try Trail and Tar by Tokai. They are super helpful. Or Lance at Epic bike shop. They are both top bike shops and will help you spend your "little as possible"
  20. Apparently there were no uni-cycles. Well none that I saw! Did see a tandem. Think I saw a single speed or 2. Lots and lots of new S-Works 29'rs. 2 white ones in particular stood out. Mine was the only Bulls Copperhead that I saw. My partners bike was pink (he ordered it online) but there were a few of them so he didn't feel too bad. Other stats should be out in about a year.
  21. I had these riders all the time. They are really bad. They just have no respect for anyone else. Once they smashed it to the front of the train and then just pulled to the side like they need to be towed along. They went out of their way not to be at the front. But they just used all their energy to get there. Go figure. Needless to say we dropped them immediately. They should not have been allowed on this race. They were a hazard to anyone that they came across. It is a pity cause it looked like some of them might have some talent. They need to learn the rules of the game before they play it.
  22. No, but there is a vortex party for 3 days.
  23. It's so close now. I am super excited. The bike has been serviced and my news wheels should be done by next week Tuesday. My team arrives on Friday and then on Sunday all hell breaks out. We are going to smash it at Meerendal. I hope the rest of you doing the Epic are getting as stoked as I am. Good luck to all of you and "ride it like you stole it"
  24. The answer to your question is "how long is a piece of string?". Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
  25. I sort of agree with you here. BUT If something happens to that helmet are you going to take it to the agents here? Why should they help you? I know lots of people who bring in their own stuff. Don't then go to the agents and cry when something happens. That only makes it more expensive for me to buy their product here because they have to factor in all these costs as well. You might not agree with me here, but from what I hear Specialized have very specific rules on this kind of thing.
