  1. Awesome! I think it's time to change my sig!
  2. I also hang my head in shame at being the first person in the country to be selling one 2nd hand. Then again, not getting much interest, and I definitely won't be sad if I end up keeping it!
  3. Beautiful! I thought I had Chumba #1 though.
  4. My idea of a "light" wheelset: Hope Pro II's Mavic 819 rims. I know they're a bit heavy, but they should be strong, and they're tubeless so you don't need to mess around with rim strips. DT Swiss Revolution Spokes for the front, Competitions for the rear. Pro-lock nipples. Hope skewers. Comes in at ~R3500 on CRC.
  5. If you're into social riding and having fun, check out trailriding.co.za. I ride with them and it's always a hoot! As for the new bike, it really just depends on your budget, and what type of riding you want to do. I'm a believer in starting on a hardtail to build skill.
  6. Get him another BMX. There's always used ones floating around for cheep cheep.
  7. Looks great! Small word of advice: Put some protective sheeting or padding between the frame and those gear cables. They leave nasty marks.
  8. See here: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=63673 Thank me later.
  9. Uhm... They can charge what they want, you're under no obligation to buy their product. They can charge R500 a tube if they want to.
  10. What puts me off most cycling gear is the colours. I'm not going to be seen in retina-burning colours. I don't wear yellow, orange, magenta or red. I also don't want company logos on clothing. I'm not a pimped out Citi-golf that needs logos on my body.
  11. You think the rigid will work for DJ?

    Headsets

PRO headsets look great, and they use the Cane Creek patent. You can't really go wrong.
  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that dotted yellow line the cycling lane? I want to be honest here for a second, and I'm sure I'll get flamed for it, but if I had to deal with sh!t like this in my neighbourhood every weekend, I would want to buy a cattle-prod as well. Roadies are always crying about having rights on the road and all that, but at the end of the day you need to earn respect. From these pictures these guys are comparable to the average taxi. I hate to say it, but if there was a petition going around to ban cycling on the Cradle route, I would sign it. Hog_2009-11-07 03:58:43
  14. X823 is not a tubeless rim.X819 is the tubeless one. (my rim of choice) The 823 is not a tubeless rim? So why does it have no spoke holes, and it comes with the little tubeless valves? Because Mavic thinks it's fun to screw with people's heads? Anyway... I didn't feel like doing the whole floor-pump until you're blue in the face routine, so I just installed the tyres with tubes for now. Will rip the tubes out on Saturday, that should be enough time for them to settle.
  15. Thanks for the tips. I've got the tyres installed. They're non-tubeless so I'll try the foot-pump now, but I'm sure I'll need the soap water.
  16. My new wheelset just landed with Mavic 823 rims. Now before I break something (or myself), can anyone give me pointers on the installation? First, the valve. Do I just screw it in with the little o-ring on the outside? Then the tyres. Is it the same as if I'm running rim strips? Meaning first seat them using soap water on the rim, and then deflate, add sealant and inflate again?
  17. So you're saying we'll have to get up 2 hours earlier? Why would we want to do that?
  18. Or mountain biking?
  19. Friday the 13th! That's so awesome!
