  1. Check out the new Trek madone 6.9 SSL....They say its the first sub 900g straight tube frame .thats painted and decals included!!! He Ain't Heavy, He's My Bike Just before the Tour de France, French magazine Le Cycle visited each team mechanic at the d?part and asked if they could weigh their bikes on their own independent scales. The following provides some interesting reading. Coming out with the lightest bikes at the Tour was of course Gilberto Simoni?s beautiful Scott CR1, Rasmussen?s Colnago Extreme C and Popovych?s Trek Madone 6.9 which all barely scraped past the UCI?s limit of 6.8kg. Taking the bidon cages and computers off any of these bikes and they may be in trouble with the man? The heaviest bike that Le Cycle weighed was Erik Zabel?s, Colnago Extreme Power which came in at 7.795kg. Clearly Erik wanted the stiffness and reliability over the weight saving that KOM winner Rasmussen prefers. Of course all these figures are subjective in the fact that different size bikes were weighed from the different teams, but it still gives you a good idea of just what the pros are actually riding in the Grand Tours. Another interesting fact to point out is the difference between Lampre?s Damiano Cunego?s bike and Cofidis? Ivan Parra?s machine. They both have the same frame, but the equipment they chose to equipe it with varied the weights significantly. 4. Big H ???? In the real world of cycling ...are'nt we all wanna be pro's or training experts or as you put it POSERS ???? We ALL are constantly talking about the best bikes , the best riders , or why Ullrich wont win the tour... But in the real world of pro bike racing we all ..you included no F*#K all. Otherwise we'd be employed by some pro tour team to give there riders the best advice possible. smileys/smiley5.gif
  5. You can Argue with me till you all blue in the face!!!!!!!! But an expensive bike with Quality components does make a difference! for some it might be a little and others a bit more... Dont come with the Lance will kick you butt on a raleigh thing again ..Rather compare apples with apples. Put Lance on a Raleigh TT machine a get him to do a 50km TT, Then put him on his Trek TTX machine.. I'll bet my Balls theres a huge DIFF. smileys/smiley4.gif
  6. What the hell has Trek got to do with a mechanic that didt do his job properly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!smileys/smiley18.gif
  7. 101%

    Which frame

I've seen one of those new GT carbons smileys/smiley20.gif very neat !!! Looks a bit like the Ridleys!
  8. I take my hat off to guys that are able to work a full day , then motivate them selves to get on a trainer and do a session . if i miss a training day I no for a fact theres no way I'll feel like training in the evening when I get home
  9. Hi Team SL. No its really not that bad ..I have a very loving wife , and we support each other with everthing we do. Another advantage I have is that I can cycle to work and back( dont need a car to do my work) , must tell you that living in Johannesburg with all the traffic takes me longer to get to work and back by car than if i cycle straight to work or straight home! a tipical week. Monday : work and back +-40km. tuesday-Thursday:get up around 4h15, train in the morning then ride to work, got a couple of routes which are around 65km. plus another 20km home in the afternoon gives me around 80-85km or 2.5 - 3 hours. Friday ; usually straight to work in the morning 20km. I'm lucky we leave early every Friday so i usually train in the afternoons +- 2-3hours. pointless getting home early for me , my wife only gets home around 17h30 . Saturdays if we racing the Sunday I only do about 2hours , if not then between 3-4 hours. Sunday either a race or go out with friends +-3-4 hours. If I needed to be at work with a car , then this would not be possible as i have to be at work by 7H30. then there no time for a 2 hour ride plus shower , and slog it in traffic to get to work!! smileys/smiley2.gif
  10. amoryns In my opinion wheels are one of the most difficult components to choose! I see people spending 12 000++++ on wheels which are clinchers, then they put sh*ty tyres on , garanteed no benifit !!!! I believe if you spending that kind of money on wheels then they must be tubbys , but disadvantage is price of tubbys and if you puncture with out a back up , then you stuck on the side of the road. check out weight ratios of clincher and tubby wheels ....HUGE diff!!!! I think a set of R14 000 ZIPP 404 clinchers are heavier than a set of R6000 ksyrium clinchers...
  11. amoryns most of these wheels you looking to buy are made of light weight carbon fibre with aero spokes , you'll only really feel the difference once you sitting at 45-50km/h , yes you are going to cut alot of weight off your bike and judging by your 53kg you cant loose more weight, remember being light and having a light bike has no benift on the flats , however on the hill its helps alot , but then aerodynamics play no part, so I would rather go for stiffness of wheels. No disrespect but I have'nt seen a ladies race in SA which was completed with a 40+ average! smileys/smiley18.gif
  12. Spending R10 000 on a set of wheels has no benifit if you completing races with 30km/h average!
  13. Must admit !! The new SRAM is starting to grow on me!! smileys/smiley17.gif
  14. Dont see the point!!!! doing away with 2 gear cables but still having to tie up all the electric wiring with those nasty straps that cratch your frame , atleast gear cables are stiff and follow the contour of your frame , looks neater than the floppy electic ones. garanteed to cost twice the price when launched...Ten years down the road and they still cant perfect a cell phone battery . how long will this battery last before its charge life gets shorter and shorter!! smileys/smiley5.gif
