  1. I have seen that road, but don't know about riding it. Roman's Baai and the Abalone farms are fenced off , so you'll probably follow that road to Afrikanos and then have to take the tar road around to Blompark/Gansbaai anyway.
  2. Yes it's that one. You need to be lekker where it forks, one of the lines is rideable if you are comfortable over rocks. If you are coming from Franskraal use the second Rooikransies entrance.
  3. Have you taken the fisherman's trail from Rooikransies to Kleinbaai yet?
  4. Thanks. Edited my post. Sommer adding it here to remind everyone to save it on their phones : WSAR 021 937 0300
  5. The trails at Lomond on the other side of the mountain is worth a ride. There is a R50 honesty box, and they were well marked a year ago when I rode it.
  6. Did it really ruin your ride? Your whole ride? Embrace the chance to educate someone to use their common sense and situational awareness on where to stand, and then embrace the even better chance to show off your riding skills. That is the number for Wilderness Search and Rescue. 021 937 0300 The right people to call in a case like this. I've had to phone it once to help a rider with a broken femur off Stellenbosch Berg, and I was blown away by their professionalism and their ability to get the right resources in place ASAP. They are an awesome bunch off people, all volunteers. And I believe as frequenters of mountains we should all have it saved on our phones. And all contribute a bit to their fundraising efforts. Edited for typo
  7. The 100mm is perfectly fine. People ride those on hardtails.
  8. Farms are price takers. They can't exactly tell WW how much they want. Ja let's not allow facts to get in the way of a good rambling.
  9. Mtbers on a hiking trail had a bad attitude with Paul Cluver (the owner) when he confronted them about being on the wrong trail. We really are out own worst enemy.
  10. I've never had an issue with greased cleat bolts, but I will also admit to using red nail varnish on bolts that I want to stay put, yet want to remove one day.
  11. Did you grease the new bolts?
  12. Ain't nobody got time for that. Stuur hom in sy moer. Dis kinderkak. You ride with who you want to ride with.
  13. Ag it's been like that with outlier kids from back when I was 'n school. We had a couple of sponsored kids, with the assistance ranging from cost price parts to full sponsorships, the one with the full ride went on to ride professionally in Europe and still rides as a pro, albeit in SA now. Mostly the brands sponsorimg kids do it out of a talent spotting and nurturing viewpoint, not to get a return. The kid you mentioned in your post is probably the outlier. Sidenote: I know a sports agent, he represents a lot of high profile rugby players. He says the amount of 16year old players and their fathers and uncles and hanger-ons knocking on their door is surprising.
  14. Indeed. It just reeks of bad corporate culture.
  15. I know the trail builders Hylton Turvey and Bennet Nel are. Hope for their sakes it is still case for next year.
  16. Are you bringing a DH bike that you want shuttled to the top? Or a big bike that can be pedalled? Self Shuttling can be done at Paarl DH. Shuttle days happen at Hellsend, and IIRC sometimes at Avondale, but you'll have to Google to find out details. Pedaling for fun DH lines can be done at Helderberg, Jonkershoek, Tokai and Contermanskloof.
  17. Bingo, there is your problem. The cable needs to be tight, so that it rotates the cam to the closed position. It's an easy, but slightly finicky job. A good mechanic will be able to sort it quick sticks.
  18. If one unit that was probably set up incorrectly serves to confirm your suspicions, then that speaks more to your cognitive bias than the truth. Xfusion makes great shocks, forks and seat posts (I know, I've ridden them hard.) But if you are the type of guy who looks like he walked into a bike shop waving his credit card with no clue while proclaiming that he "needs the best and nothing less will suffice for my dice to 317th position at this weekends fun ride!" then you are definitely not the target market for xfusion. Just don't mention Fox's creaking CSU's, their awful CTD phase, nor Rock Shox's terrible small parts support and the phase where their charger dampers had bladders that blew up. Pick a brand and be a deuche about it. Just be prepared to have humble pie when proven wrong.
  19. I think your problem might be with the shock and not the lever. The lever's only job is to pull the cable a set amount before the ratchet clicks in place. The shock has a cam/pulley that is pulled by the cable into a position that puts the damping circuit in the locked state. If the cable isn't set up correctly, it won't lock the shock. ie too little tension. 80% odds of this being the issue If the shock itself is faulty, then no amount of cable pulling will lock it out. 15% that this is the issue. Leaving a 5% chance that I'm mistaken and the lever itself is faulty. Either way, get the bike to a shop where someone with some mechanical knowledge can help you. Or phone Robbie at RBC in PE, he'll probably be able to sort it out in the dark, with a blindfold on.
  20. Ag there has been rotten apple and lekker attitudes like that ever since I started riding. That was 22 years ago. The lowest common denominator has always been "people," and there are so many more riding nowadays. I've seen these people hiking and trail running too.
  21. Naah Robbie, you are not their target market. Besides, you are more likely to be triggered into sadness when you ride past all the lekker trails. It's not a festival of trails anymore. You (like myself) will be better off spending that money on a Winelands Regional permit that will give you access to most of these trails, minus a few link ups that will need some bypassing.
  22. But that is a managerial problem. Inexperienced staff need to be mentored and trained.
  23. Well I can vouch for the Spez store in stellies. I live in Somerset West, but I will ride my bike to Stellenbosch to buy something there instead of the spez store in S-West. They guy there (Craig Boyes IIRC) remembered my shoe size a week later, and advised me to look at a lower end show rather when I told him what I planned to do. And a few years later he said that what he had on the floor was a down grade, and that I would be disappointed. (This was in covid time when stock was a nightmare.) I can't comment on the workshop, I swing my own spanners. Larney Concept stores attract the kind of customer who waltzes in waving his credit card saying "I have no clue, but here is my card, give me one of everything." I've only been to the Spez store in Paarl once, and the big F-off I had written on my forehead probably scared the kid off.
