  1. Naah, it takes a bit of work and patience, but there are bargains on the hub still. But keep an eye out the 'n Facebook in the buy&sell groups. There is a lot of value there.
  2. Don't you sell cars? Do you advise people trading a car in to rather sell it on gumtree to prevent being ripped off? ACE is basically a 2nd hand car dealer, but deals in bikes. And like you get a dealership with a 2nd hand cars floor, webuycars and the guy in Voortrekker str, you also get different levels of dealers here on lehub.
  3. As it should. The same for a 2nd hand car salesman. At the end of the day it's just business, but people want to make it personal. But, like with car sales, there are sharks in the bike dealer sphere. Like the guy in George who pretended to be a woman starting out in mtbing to get a lower price from a friend of mine, then promptly removed the dropper, bumped the price up and neglected to mention or post photos of the scratches in the fork stanchions. Dodgy AF.
  4. Just went through this whole story while shopping around for a road bike for my wife. The filters on bikehub is convenient, but the value potential is better on Facebook, and that is where we found the bike we bought.
  5. Make sure his bill is settled quickly. Worth every cent.
  6. I weigh 86 on a good day and I run 1.8bar in front and 2 at the back. Assegaai front, Minion SS Back. I ask a lot of the front wheel, because I slide the back a lot. And I lean the bike aggressively. If the pressure is too low, the tyre starts squirming. I bet that you might have some bad habits/ideas and that an independent eye will be able to ID it and help you with it. Maybe an intermediate skills class or some one on one coaching won't go amiss. Thanks man, the mortality of your parents is an inevitable but bitter pill to swallow. At least we have time still.
  7. @Robbie Stewartthere is nothing wrong with dialing it back. It's not an all or nothing thing. Many years back, as a student, I realised that riding bikes won't be paying the bills. This coupled with gnarly crashes forced me to rethink how I ride downhill. Pretty much where you are now. And that was where I forced myself to ride slower, but try to be smoother and brake less, the mantra was to flow down the trail like water. I still ride all the lines, I just dialed it back to become better at it. Fast forward about 16 years and I'm still riding as loose as a politician's moral compass. I had a bit of a speed wobble last year after my father got diagnosed with cancer and I went bos on all my rides. Roekeloos. But after breaking two helmets in less than two months in crashes that I was both lucky to walk away from, I realised that I needed to deal with **** instead of trying to ride away from it. Now I'm back to riding sideways and braking less and having more fun while being safer. Albeit slightly slower. Win-win. Robbie, if you can, buy the Status. It will be massively more capable and safer than your camber on the rougher trails. A more capable bike, is essentially safer when ridden af 7/10 instead of 9/10.
  8. I had a rapide 27.5 30mm 28h rim on my enduro bike. I am a firm believer that bikes need to be ridden sideways so I treated that wheel with very little respect and it rolled with all the punches. I can wholly recommend Rapide wheels.
  9. The 90s called, they want John Tomac’s bike back. https://roadbikeaction.com/throwback-thursday-drop-bars-on-the-kamikaze/
  10. It’s not a tyre for careful people. I like my minion SS on the back. I also like going sideways and the SS can break away without touching the brake. For a pedally day on mild trails it’s a no-brainer. Beware though, it make make you believe that you can do scandi flicks all day.
  11. A guy I know had his Spark frame replaced under warranty due to paint issues. Time to visit your lbs. edit: sweat is pretty corrosive, if your frame was scratched that would explain it. That reminds me, I need to wash my bike.
  12. Good suggestion. OP, never underestimate the value of going to far off places, and the ability to sleep in the back. It’s the stuff that impromptu adventures are made off. As a matter of fact I still embrace my inner dirtbag when camping with the boys. Mattress, sleeping bag, cooler box and ammo crate kitchen.
  13. Don’t lose sight that it is at Rhebockskloof because of the Bike Fest that is going on there, that weekend. And the Rhebockskloof venue is probably the best way to keep your family happy while you race bikes. IIRC there is a spa as well if you need to earn some brownie points.
  14. Well that depend on your route preferences. If you are only riding gravel and farm roads then a gravel bike is probably more suitable. but do you only do bike packing trips? Do you not want a lekker mountain bike for all your other rides (the one without bags?) I like my routes to have gnarly roads and singletrack in it, so we use mtb’s with a more fast-packing type load out.
  15. Mic drop Morne.
  16. Don’t be surprised if there’s an enduro at Banhoek this year. But carrying speed at Rhebockskloof will require real skills and to keep it up for 4/5 stages will require fitness. Whereas banhoek doesn't really require that much skills to go fast. It's mostly Blue level flow trails with And to progress at Enduro you need to build the fitness and get a pair of stuk lungs to get up there. Being fast on flow trails is just one piece of the puzzle. Besides we only have a couple of really gnarly trail venues that cater for Enduros. The odds of Helderberg holding a race again is slim, so for gnat we are left with Contermanskloof, Jonkershoek and George. Also bear in mind that EWC races are now organized by a new crew. With new ideas and theories. Give them a chance.
  17. Don’t worry, that photo wasn't even taken at Atta. The @OVERDRIVE broken record just won't let a chance slip to bash Maxxis. Especially without context.
  18. Okay I'll bite: Santa can be considered premium, but only because of high cost and limited production coupled to only being available in a few bike shops makes them seem premium. Scott, Merida, Giant, Cannondale, and Specialized are about as premium as a Toyota Hilux. And as common. I'm saying this as a Scott owner. Nothing premium about my bike. Vitus and YT are mail order bikes. That is like saying you get better service at Outsurance while holding the line for thirty minutes after someone drove into you. At least you saved some money hey? Like Jewbacca wrote. "Premium" is a mindset in the consumer, and it is influenced by marketing. But you pay for that, wether it translates to a better ride or peace of mind is debatable. But we are all emotional about bikes, so rationality is put aside.
  19. Indeed. Mated to the 120kw Tdi.
  20. I don't know about which one corresponds to the box in my wife's 2019 tiguan, but it didn't make it past 45k kms before the computer needed replacing last year.
  21. Too bad they can't seem to make reliable mechatronic units for said gearbox. One theory I read is that the gearbox oil is corrosive and that it damages the sensors that is part of the mecatronic unit.
  22. At 1.84m you are at the top of L and bottom of XL. Personally I would go XL.
  23. Mate of mine had these on his ranger https://skitch.co.za/product-category/bed-racks/
  24. Do you have stats to back up that claim about 26er sales? And does that differentiate between commuters and leisure riders? I was a staunch hold out against 29ers. Until last year. And now I won't invest money into a 26er if it isn't for a short person or a child. 29ers really are much better for mountain biking
