  1. I had it surgically repaired, but it was part of a much bigger repair because I also fractured the acromion process of the scapula. A few years previously I broke and had the clavicle repaired with a plate and screws. So, for me, surgery was without any doubt the way to go. The outcome is close to 100%, in fact, the other shoulder that I never broke, gives me more issues. What I want to add (like several people said above) is that the post-op physio is extremely important and essential to restore full function, both in range of movement and strength .
  2. AKA hairy brush?
  3. Did I perhaps bump into you on Wednesday somewhere on the Seekoegat road? In Savage kit? (To my shame, I was driving the gas guzzler.)
  4. So, now we know Dale walks in style also......not just ride in style!😉Betcha he does not own Crocks.🤪
  5. Yes, but the gear ratios on the C40 and the steepness of that bloody hill made me realise that Youth Day no longer applies to me! 😜
  6. You better post regular pictures and reports or I am going to personally climb on the interwebs and come tweak your left ear!😜
  7. Agreed, if you do bad and bumpy dirt roads, strap the bikes down as well, especially to prevent side to side movement. No need for super tight ratchet straps though, a normal run of the mill cleat strap will do the trick for a pedal bike.
  8. I wonder whether the almond smell tells the bees that there is something poisonous around? (Bitter almonds contain a small amount of cyanide.) Perhaps there is something in regular almonds that they experience as a warning and move off?
  9. See you are a fellow "cannot stomach bad coffee" guy.👍😉
  10. Favourite food of TdF contenders.😜
  11. By far the best long term solution is the glue and patch that the kitesurfers use (Aguaseal I think). You can get the same thing from outdoors shops as well. They sell it to patch inflatable mattresses (and I suppose adult shops might keep patches for blow-up dolls? Ha ha, only guessing of course! 😜). I have an old Camelback bladder that I patched with that aquaseal stuff about 10 years ago and it is still perfect.
  12. My father kept bees for many years, but sadly I did not learn it from him. What I do recall though, is that whenever he worked with the bees, he showered beforehand and did it on a cool day, early in the morning. His reason for cleaning himself was that the bees disliked a strong sweaty scent and would be more aggressive if you smelled of perspiration. He also made sure not to have deodorant or aftershave on him because some of those can mimic pheromones and have an effect on the bees. Real or old wives tale? I don't know. But it made me wonder why cyclists, all hot and sweaty, get stung all too often.
  13. If there is a single Capie who went for a ride today, I'd be happy to buy him a beer. Bree Street 5pm, from the toasty seat of the gas guzzler!.
  14. 😂I need you to review some more stuff for me😀
  15. One last picture of our Eroica ride. Riding up to the Groenland breakfast stop. I am no good at watercolour, a bit like cycling, but I imagine and I try, and mostly I find much more joy than suffering from it!
  16. You are obviously on the right medication, looking at your picture!
  17. Eina! When a helmet looks like that, you sure came to a sudden stop! Sorry that your trip ended up in hospital, but as a pilot friend once said, any "landing" you walk away from was a "good" one! Heal quickly Dale!
  18. A good riding buddy is priceless 👍
  19. Same here. Thoroughly enjoyed that.
  20. ......................Ablutions anywhere you feel like, rubbish bin 360 degrees around, no need to clean up, rob, steal, loot and pilfer for luxuries and necessities alike, use and sell drugs, you have all the rights to do whatever you like...............and I'm just talking about my own little neck of the law abiding woods!
  21. Had to drop the petrol guzzler for a service very early this morning in Montague Gardens. Coming back I saw a cyclist on the shoulder of the N1 going into town, opposite Century City. In the dark with no lights...............some people really play for the Darwin Awards and no amount of cycle lanes will cure them !
  22. All those Europen riding pictures are causing some nasty jealousy ............. I know I should be a better person ............. but, hey, It's difficult when pictures are involved! Keep posting though, just to see if I can overcome another one of my weaknesses! 🤪
  23. Please note that I AM NOT AN ESKOM EMPLOYEE But I know one, and once asked him that question.........he rolled his eyes and said that he had just installed a bunch of solar panels, batteries and a back-up generator at home............
  24. I wondered if he was referring to power cuts as "this crap" or to what the guy was saying. He almost certainly was NOT referring to accepting skelm crooked thieves as bedfellows. Also, him using the word "honestly" causes a lot of cognitive dissonance in my head.
