  1. First thing I noticed when I used the new one was the blow by around the seal.... Got really p'd off by the air escaping while I was pressing. Even had some hot coffee sprayed at me. Couldn't figure out what was going wrong. It was brand new and shouldn't be "leaking"! Upon closer inspection I saw the difference. The older version had ribs along the length of the plunger that helped keep it pushing in a straight line whereas the new one doesn't have those ribs and that allows you to plunge at an angle which "weakens" the seal allowing blow-by. I replaced the new plunger with the old one and it seems to help.
  2. That one should be fine as it is supplied by Moreflavour who are the SA importers for Aeropress AFAIK. Maybe they just used an old picture. The new one is also a bit "milky" looking as a result of the different plastic that they are using now.
  3. Thanks man Here you go: (More info here) Bike is actually currently for sale.
  4. At the end of the day it turned out OK. Frame was stripped and left raw. Wanted to seal it with an orange tinted clear coat. Was hoping to find a candy clear but no luck down here in this sleepy town called Durban. First attempt was a bust. (Tried tinting the clear coat but the additive I used delayed the paint from going hard... Note to self, listen to the panel beaters and suppliers when they tell you that you can't tint clear and still let it stay translucent...) On top of that, too much paint and incorrect settings on the gun resulting in plenty runs. Figured I would let the paint dry and sand the runs out with 1000/1200 water paper and buff but the paint didn't harden (Mixed 2:1:1 clear, hardener and thinners) Out came the stripper and we started again Second attempt, less paint, adjusted the air and the fan and all went well. (Touch up gun probably would have been better though but no ways I wasn't going to use the new gun... ) All logos were masked and sprayed. Ended up with two runs which were sanded out and buffed. Clear coat hardened nicely as well. Very happy with the way it turned out though and I think it is fair to say that at this point in time, Bogus has nothing to worry about
  5. On a different note, I just had my first Truth Coffee experience. What a great place!! Looking forward to tucking into my beans when I am back in Durban
  6. The new ones have the gold writing embossed on the side and the body is a bit opaque (changed in 2013 if I recall...) unless you get some really old stock... or an Aelopless like gerald suggested...
  7. On mine, it is the thread on the axle itself that screws into the fork that is damaged. There is enough to get it to bite. It has an internal (10mm allen socket on the RHS.) I machined up 2 stainless inserts and used a rear QR skewer. Plug goes in each side and the skewer pulls the whole lot together. (Along with the axle of course!) Been like that for a while now and holding strong. Raced a whole season with that arrangement.
  8. Dropped him a mail with the link and this thread link. Edit: Noticed that there is no mention of the word "Aeropress" but it is now an "Air-Pressed Coffee & Espresso Maker" Still a knock off of an Aeropress though.......
  9. New gravity feed HVLP gun. Been wanting one of these for a while now... Cycling related as I am planning on doing a frame respray on my DH bike soon Not a DeVilbiss but pretty sure it will do the job... Time will tell I suppose.
  10. Just putting this here again. Hoping that somebody has a spare
  11. My suggestion would be installing Kodi on the laptop as already mentioned and play with it to see if you like it. If you do then I would go Android Set Top Box. This allows you to load Kodi as well as other Playstore apps and APK'S. This will free up your laptop. It is also easier IMHO to access content through an add-on like Exodus, Phoenix or SALTS than to do it through a browser. Pair your set top box with a wireless keyboard and your entertainment requirements are sorted. No more downloading either as it is mostly available on demand (I say mostly as you will find broken links and non available streams but we are talking about free services here) Kodi, UKTVNow abd RedbullTV has ticked pretty much all my boxes. (Still need to have a look at Mobdro)
  12. Have a look at Maktec as a Makita "substitute". Still made by Makita and classified as industrial but a bit cheaper. (Less moving parts or something) Mate has a joinery business and he started with Makita. Got too expensive to replace and now uses thhe Maktec stuff. He's well impressed so far http://www.maktec.co.za
  13. I see another Indaba in the cards......
  14. I am happy to say that I have read every one of the 60 000 odd posts on this thread
  15. I didn't see that. I will be having a look this evening though.....
  16. Even the English commentators on Sky 1 this weekend mentioned the difficulties that SA Rugby are currently experiencing with direct reference to the politics..... It doesn't take a genius to see what the problems are. Unfortunately not even our National coach (or selectors) can see them and needs to call an indaba to get input from other coaches to help identify these problems..... It is my understanding that NZ, although they are a national side, are run as a business with NO Political input and players are picked on form and ability. The scary thing is that they could change players in any position multiple times a season and not skip a beat.....
  17. I thought I had cracked it with UKTVNow... I tuned into Sky Sports 2 on Saturday to watch the rugby and all was good. Then at 5pm, they cut the feed..... bugger.... So off I went to ZEM and hooked up a MamaHD feed Edit: With SA subsidising the rest of DSTV Africa with monthly subs, I don't think they are aiming the channel choice option at us....
  18. That came out really nice Ed. Well done
  19. Started Blue Bloods Season 6 this weekend. Always a good watch Been eyeing Agents of Shield (S03), Luke Cage and a few others as well....
  20. I need to get a new plunger and try and fix the wrinkling inside my old one.....
  21. Thanks Rudo Did two coats on Monday evening. First was wetter than the second (Not by much though) Left those to soak in overnight and applied a third coat this morning. I'll put a fourth on this evening when I get home and then see if the bat facing will stick on Wednesday morning....(That is for more of a cool factor than anything else) He can't wait to take it to practice on Wednesday! I put quite a bit of oil onto the toe so I'm not sure if the patch will stick. Will give it a go though. He played his first "match" on Friday. Coaches let them play in all positions. Took 2 wickets, knocked 8 runs, got bored fielding and had fun playing wickey. Going to work on the catching skills with his new cricket ball he got for his birthday Edit: Might give the toe of the bat a grind on the disk sander before I apply the toe protection...
  22. So using my Degree by Google, I was able to ascertain that it's not that complicated. A few coats of raw linseed oil left to absorb over a few days and then an application of Frame Protection Bat Facing and we are golden. Operation Cricket Bat Restore continues tonight
  23. That is cool! Just not sure it fits with my existing decor unfortunately.
  24. That may actually be the closest anybody has come. Had a look at google images and it looks pretty close Now to decide if I should square it off for the light fitting or not...
