  1. Recently started watching Elementary. Scheduled to watch S01E23/24 tonight. Quite glad we have the next three seasons queued up and waiting!
  2. Either use a vernier (Not a plastic vernier...) or a telescopic gauge and then mic it. If you use a piece of string and a ruler I might be able to knock something up for you with a file and a hammer Edit: measure the basket and then allow for your preferred tolerance
  3. The person that came up with the idea of those spoke cover things should be shot and burned along with all the sets that have already been sold...
  4. Right, so far it's three tampers. Ken @ 58.4 V12 @ 58.5 Meezo @ To be confirmed Just waiting for the blanks to arrive and will get cracking. I will PM you as soon as they are ready for delivery.
  5. Aaaah the holy grail.....
  6. That does look interesting! The round stuff is doable, however the flat stuff may be more of a challenge with the equipment that I have available unfortunately.
  7. Thanks mate. If you are talking about panels then you should go ask on the woodworking thread. Some talented guys there. If you want round knobs or something turned up in a lathe, I am sure I could help
  8. Thanks Ken. Will give you a shout as soon at it is ready. I only have the two samples so I need to order some blanks quick.
  9. Thanks RB. Yeah, that was kind of the idea behind this project. Also to be able to sell something that you can't really get anywhere else.
  10. Not all of them. The blanks for the bases I have machined. On my small lathe it takes too long. They are supplied at 59mm and I will then machine down to what ever sizes is required and finish them off. The whole idea is to machine to the customer's requirements. The brass spacers and the handles however I do myself.
  11. No problem. Do you need a specific diameter for the base?
  12. Right chaps, had a gap this weekend and machined up 2 tampers. Both are still at 59dia waiting for final machining details. The straight edge height is currently 10mm (Will increase slightly once I finish the diameter. Can also be adjusted by machining some material off of desired. Brass ring is solid with a diameter of 25mm. Looking at supplying 3 rings per unit so that handle height can be adjusted to suit your hand, Effectively allowing for 15mm of adjustment. Handle is Tamboti and hasn't been treated yet. Will be done with Danish oil if I can get my hands on some. Over all diameter of the handle is around 35mm and it fits nicely into your hands with your fingers just putting pressure of the base to stabilize it while tamping. Current options are 304 Stainless steel and T6 series aluminium. Stainless: Aluminium: For the weight weenies: Would the preference be stainless or aluminium? Price point will initially be around the R500 mark as an introductory offer.
  13. No joy here... Not able to view any info on my Vitality Drive rewards. Digital card is there but it won't load so I can't redeem it. Some of the DQ points aren't showing up and the trip recorder is waaaaay behind. Really starting to piss me off. Used to be so easy to see what was what at a quick glance. Discovery card balance also not showing up as it used to. Need to keep on logging in even though I am already logged in... App and phone are all up to date. Even tried restarting the phone with no improvement. Multimillion rand company like Discovery are pissing off a lot of people because some developer didn't check their work properly before they released the "upgrade" for their app.
  14. If you could give me the critical measurements that would work best I would be happy to machine one up for you to test. Most of the online stuff talks about 1mm clearance between tamper and basket with a 1mm radius on the edge.
  15. Ok cool. Will do a drawing to get some sizes and get some material and make one you can test. Just waiting for a gear for my lathe. Broke a tooth and getting a replacement made. I'll let you knoww when it's done.
  16. What are the most common tamper diameters? From what I can see they are 58mm, 55mm, 53mm, and 51mm. What material would be preferable? Stainless steel or aluminium? Thinking about making a few flat bottom tampers. Got my hands on some Tamboti that I could use for the handles. Would anybody be interested in something like that?
  17. Just be aware of the "uncapped" portion....that line is shaped I found it better off going capped. Running a 20Mb ADSL line semi shaped with 400Gb data @ R725/month from Afrihost incl line rental (No FTTH in our little neighbourhood) I have not been throttled yet
  18. An older 4x4/SUV with an offroad bumper creates a lot of room in peak hour traffic
  19. A question for the Giba trail runners... My wife is dabbling in trail running at the moment (it is infinitely less boring than pounding the pavements...). We are members at Giba and as a nice family outing on a Sunday afternoon we all head off for a run/cycle. My eldest son and her run and me and the little guy ride. We've done the Waterfall trail a few times but she wants to try something a little bit more challenging. I've overheard people talking about 10 - 15km trail runs at Giba but as far as I was aware, only the waterfall rail is a shared trail and that comes out at about 4-5km... Where do you trail runners run if you run at Giba?

Hand in hand not necessarily but side by side as pieces in a bigger puzzle definitely. The biggest problem that we face in this country IMO is our complete lack of respect for everything. Can you imagine what a wonderful place this would be if we all had respect? We all need a bit of discipline. There needs to be some form of consequence for our actions other than a stern talking to. I suppose a psychologist could figure out a custom package for every individual (in an ideal world). What works on some doesn't necessarily work on others. As an aside, the thought of getting jacked certainly got me to think twice about what it was that I was planning to do on more than one occasion. In my case it worked as a good deterrent.

The good old days when there was discipline and respect in the SA Education system...

Our Maths teacher was rather fond of a 600 wooden ruler... He used to ask you if you were left or right handed and then klap the other one so you were in pain but you could still do the work.
