  1. My Android Box is still giving me issues. It keeps freezing and I have reloaded the OS quite a few times now. I think the time has come to retire it and get a new one. I have been looking at a few and have made the decision to get a Google Certified device as this seems like the logical step to avoid any issues going forward. We currently have issues with apps not being available or won't work because our current device is not Google Certified. Has anybody had any experience with the Ematic 4K Ultra HD Device? http://ematic.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Image_Features1.jpg I have it queued up on Loot (Discovery will subsidize a portion )
  2. Picked up a Gater manual grinder and an Aeropress from a mate the other day for half the price of a new Aeropress. Only used a few times. Too much work for him. He prefers his bean to cup. Lid was cracked but I glued it.
  3. We did some nasty things to our corporal while he was sleeping. Then he did some nasty stuff to us while we were sleeping.... I remember using starch, shoe brushes, an iron, pegs, my teeth and my hands to make a bed. Now I just use my hands.
  4. If you ride a GS or an Ebike you probably take up as much space as 3 people....
  5. I bought some Gobelins Danish Oil from Buco. Wasn't too badly priced either. Go look here: http://www.thewoodcarecompany.co.za/ You can buy direct if you aren't in KZN or Western Cape. They are based in the Western Cape somewhere.
  6. I have been switching between a Moka with a camping stove and an Aeropress for the last few years paired up with a Severin grinder. I like coffee in a mug with milk so that setup suits my needs. I played with a Delonghi manual espresso for cappuccinos but was never really happy with it so went back to my old setup. One day when I am big I might splash some cash on a proper setup. Problem is that you need to spend almost as much on a grinder as on a machine.
  7. Can do [emoji106] will let you know when it is ready.
  8. Maybe I am over (or under) thinking this, but for the most part, if you want to steal a bike from a (insert brand name here) rack, the bikes are usually attached with a rubber/plastic strap and if the owner is super diligent then a cable with a padlock. It would probably be easier and quicker to either cut the cable/padlock with bolt cutters or just break the strap and take the bike. Surely removing the tow bar or tow ball is a bit extreme? TBH I haven't heard of anyone having had their bike and rack stolen let alone their towbar. I have enough hassle just carrying my Thule from the car to the garage to hang it up let alone with a bike or three attached to it. But then again that is the logical thought process of a "normal" citizen and not some wunga fueled psychotic bike thief willing to dismantle a car to make a few rand on a bike.
  9. In addition to that, you don't have to take the home owners insurance offered by the bank either. There is a lot of money to be saved by shopping around. As an example, my bank quoted me a figure on our current property. I saved just over R400 on monthly premiums by shopping around. (Don't fall into the trap of insuring the property for what you paid for it either. Let the bank value it and give you a quote for insurance as it will state the insured value. Use that value to get alternate quotes from independent insurers) Be aware of the exclusions/limitations as well. Sometimes you need to provide documentation e.g. Geotech Reports for comprehensive cover on certain items. Edit: I was also advised to separate my insurance from my bond payments. It had something to do with long term costs or something along those lines.
  10. We were discussing this last night. They can spend hours with their mates on various gaming, chat room or social media platforms without leaving the comfort of their bedrooms. My son has however been seeing a young lady that has expressed some interest in him recently so he might just get to see some sunshine. Better remind him to use sunscreen....
  11. All I can advise is read the fine print and make sure you understand the T&C's. If there is any chance that you may need to borrow on the loan for further improvements, purchases etc, register your home loan for a higher amount NOW. The difference in costs is minimal say between registering for R1,5 million and R2 million. You will obviously only be able to borrow up to the value of the property. However when you need the extra cash you only pay admin fees as no lawyers are involved. Access Bond? Interest rates nowadays are a crap shoot. Who knows what may happen tomorrow. We decided to just see what happens and take the variable rate. (My old neighbour fixed his and shortly after that the rate dropped...) Try and put any extra cash that you have into the loan. A few hundred a month makes a HUGE difference at the end of the term. Your interest is calculated daily so don't delay the transfer if you have extra.
  12. My eldest was.not in the least bit interested in getting his license. We have had to push really hard to get him to go for lessons etc. The problem with that generation is that we as parents will fetch and carry while they are still at school to go see friends, movies, beach etc. Now I drop him at varsity in the mornings and he ubers when he goes out to party so there is no real need for a license... The problem will come when he starts work but they all seem to live from day to day and it's only mom and dad that look that far ahead. Edit: Spelling
  13. The inability to adapt to a changing market. More and more people are realising the benefits of VOD. If they came up with the sport on demand they might have a winning formula...
  14. Unfortunately it is the trend at the moment. Quite a few companies that have initiated a Section 189 retrenchment process.
  15. Now they give you 300 a month free 'cause they know you aren't going to use them...
  16. Must have watched Chukky's Youtjoop video.... https://youtu.be/KaBGeWmJCUw
  17. Now if you were on a motorcycle........
  18. That is the long term plan. Just waiting for the warranty to expire. That and the fact that I don't require that level of grind at the moment. Would be a fun project though.
  19. I have the Severin. Fine for Moka, Aeropress etc but if you read up on it, it is not up to the task for higher end "proper" espresso machines. Doesn't grind fine enough apparently.
  20. An interesting bit of info regarding the rewards vouchers... the suppliers decide how many vouchers to make available and when to have them available. Take Cape Union Mart. They might release 100 vouchers. Once they are all claimed the option disappears. It may take 3 days or 3 months before they decide to allocate more vouchers. There is no set cycle So at the end of the day it's just luck.
  21. I have just confirmed with the call center. Once you have received notification that you have points/diamonds that are expiring that week, you have until the following Tuesday at midnight to use them or lose them.
  22. Just a heads up, Cape Union Mart voucher is available again.
  23. Anybody want to swap a Netflorist voucher for a Yuppie Chef/Loot voucher....
  24. The rewards vouchers have expiry dates on them. Was wondering specifically about the rewards points/diamonds that you haven't used yet but are due to expire.Vitality uses different "weeks". My active rewards week runs from Friday to Friday and my Drive week seems to run from Sunday to Sunday however the rewards are awarded weekly on a Wednesday. I think to be safe I'll spend them by midnight tomorrow in case Discovery decide to take them away on Friday...
