  1. One of our local steel merchants (Steel and Pipes for Africa) are agents for Connect-it fittings. They look like they could make life easy. http://steelandpipes.co.za/connect-it-connectors/
  2. Since around the mid 2000s, manufacturers made the decision to focus on the big bore adventure bikes and stop development on the travel enduro segment. (650 singles). Sure you could still get an XR, DR, or KLR, but not much happened there ITO development or excitement. BMW had the 800 but it didn't really fit in. Not really big enough to run with the big boys and maybe a bit porky and posh to run with the singles who were more off road focused. IMHO the last good travel enduro was the KTM 640 A. The 690 is also a great bike but more of a big enduro bike. A rally kit adds fuel etc but at a hefty price.... Besides modified 525's etc not much filled that gap. Forums have been alight for ages with banter about no one filling that gap until recently with the launch of the 790 and the T7. Pity they priced them the way they did....
  3. I have also used Revant Optics before. (The shipping was actually more than the lenses...) Turn around time with ReVu was 24hrs (I dropped them off with Carolyn after work on a Monday and she sent me pics of the new lenses fitted at around 11am the next day and I collected after work) I use them every day and the tint, colour etc is spot on. (I found the Revant tint to be a bit too dark) My next pair will definitely go to them for replacement lenses.

    Alcohol Ban

Eina.... I will never underestimate the value of the stock of wine that I carry at home again.

    Alcohol Ban

Same thing happened to use in March.... That was a VERY long 14 weeks. When the transport/sale ban etc was finally lifted and couriers could collect and transport, there was a further 2 week delay to process and dispatch all the orders.
  6. Should probably put these in the classifieds but I'll get more exposure here... Touratech Aluminium Panniers for sale if anyone is interested. (They are already on Wilddogs and Gumtree) No major dents or structural damage, cracks etc. The black marks are scuff (abrasion) marks from carrying stuff in them while touring. They are symmetrical boxes. Asking R3000 (No frames, just the boxes as shown) PM me if interested
  7. Not uncommon to trash a pair of lenses from your favourite pair of cycling or recreational sunglasses. Replacement lenses from the manufacturer are usually about the same price as a new pair of glasses so you end up either throwing them away or stashing them in a cupboard hoping that someday you might find someone that can repair them at a reasonable cost. Well today is your lucky day!. (Unless of course you threw yours away.....) I recently found out that a lady in our neighbourhood (They can courier anywhere so location isn't really an issue) was able to manufacture replacement lenses for sunglasses and they have recently added half frame lenses to their service which covers most of the Oakley sport range. These are high quality optics with various colours and coatings available and they are polarised. I replaced the lenses on a pair of Arnette Heist and a pair of Oakley Monster Pups and was very happy with the results! Just to add that I am in no way affiliated to this business, but when the service is this good and the quality of the product is top notch, it makes no sense not to share! ReVu Replacement Lenses
  8. And peeing on their shoes.
  9. If it raises awareness in just one person I am happy. Like I said, when he looked at it, it didn't shout scam (The price was very good but in light of the state of the current economy, people are selling things off to put food on the table so not a completely unrealistic price if he was planning to move it quickly) I am not happy that we lost the money (Mom lent him the cash), but what hurt more was seeing how it affected him because he's responsible. Unfortunately you can't go through the school of life without paying some school fees. Lesson learned I am sure.
  10. This is just a heads up to anyone that may stumble across this person. Forewarned is forearmed. My son was looking for a graphics card for his PC recently and one came up on Gumtree that he was interested in. (A Geforce GTX 1080Ti for around R4k). Looked like a really good price (Usually priced at around R6-8k second hand so not an unrealistic bargain) so he contacted the seller. After some WhatsApp chat and a few pictures of the card in the tower, a deal was struck, Delivery address was confirmed and payment was maid via E-Wallet. That's when the comms went dead and we realised that he had been scammed..... User name and details: Isaac van der Walt 0664297171 0870945575 Dialled the number but goes to voice mail (Not surprisingly) The cell number has been traced and was last active in the Pretoria area. All I can say is that I hope that Isaac needed that money for something really important because if he didn't, the universe has the amazing ability to restore balance. It has reduced my son's faith in humanity and taught him a few life lessons. If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Trust no one. Nothing to be done except to warn others.

    Who remembers?

MAD Magazine occupied an unhealthy amount of my time as a kid.
  12. And be careful if you buy from a new bundle..... I chose a few "straight" pieces from a new bundle for an outside project. By the time I got home, what looked reasonable in the timber yard looked more like a hand of bananas by the time I unloaded it.
  13. How do so many bike owners not have papers for their bikes...? Seems to be quite a common thing looking through Gumtree and bike sales.
  14. A guy I knew used to race super singles at national level. When he was too broken to continue, he took his race bike and parked it in his lounge as a display piece. Was very cool.
  15. In one of the Grand Designs episodes a guy mounted his Ducati on the wall of his lounge
  16. I am feeling your pain. The 640 has been having intermittent e start issues. Decided to strip the starter yesterday to check for a sticky brush. Turns out there's not a lot of brush left.....need a new brush plate and there's not much chance of that happening soon. Guess I'll be kicking for a while (anybody that has owned a 640 will sympathise I'm sure .... they are not fun to kick! Kick Till Monday......)
  17. So I have done the following: Log on to the VA app. Select online workouts. Pick a work out that either exceeds 30 minutes or do two workouts that together exceed 30 minutes (you don't have to do them back to back. You can stagger them as long as they are done on the same day) this gets you 100 points and counts as a gym visit. I had 35/36 visits on the 18th April. I have done 3 online workouts and I am now sitting at 38/36. I have to get 7 visits in by end of May. I am on a legacy contract. I'm not taking any chances. I'll do the workouts and back them up by recording the activity with my device just in case I get audited.
  18. Same scenario... 0 visits for April and I need 6 by the end of May to keep my benefit. I don't think gyms will be opening up again too soon (Unless they limit numbers). I use it for a session or two on the Wattbike and occasionally throw some weight s around and grunt a bit.
  19. Thanks Frosty. I had to read through the T&C's document in one of the links to get info and they state that points will be awarded for participating in an online class as long as it exceeds 30 minutes. Will test it out tomorrow and see what happens with Gym Tracker on the Disco App
  20. Can somebody please advise on the virtual gym visits with Discovery? I am a legacy member with VA (IOW I signed up many years ago when you paid a single joining fee, and as long as you visited the gym 3 times a month you never paid any additional fees). do however I am not a gym rat and do a lot of my training at the bike park or around the neighborhood. I keep the 36 visit average ticking over. I would however like to keep the benefit but that means I need to log the gym visits. I am sure I received a mail a while ago about what needed to be done but I can't seem to find it. I have phoned the call center but the lady I spoke to said she wasn't a member of VA and she wasn't quite sure how to do it. She told be to use the app or virginactive.coach I think it goes like this: log on to the app select one of the online classes and completed the 30 minute session What I need to clarify is will your virtual gym visit be allocated because you did the class or do you still need to log the workout via the app? I am not worried about the points as those I get through my Garmin device is linked. This is purely to make sure that I get my gym "swipe".

    Who remembers?

I don't miss running at anytime... I am however getting REALLY tired if riding up my driveway... Although if it's a choice between the IDT and the driveway, driveway every time! There are some trail options around the garden that have been ridden a few times but during this time I am not sure tackling tech stuff in the garden is a good idea (I'd like to try and stay far away from doctors and hospitals if I can) I do miss riding with my mates though... My wife just doesn't cope the verbal abuse and heckling.

I am still doing that (sort of...). My wife and I just finished a gym session in the garage with a bit of MTB up and down the driveway thrown if for cardio (I can't run...). About to make a brew and head off to the dining room table for another hard day at the office.

  24. Technical term for those are Pocket Bolts
  25. Like Rocket-boy I too didn't care too much for woodwork. My pot stand was an abomination and the cupboard could barely hold it's own weight... I have collected a few tools over the years (plane, jigsaw, skill saw, hand saws, router and some chisels) but my manufacturing skills still suck. Most of what I plan doesn't come out that nicely. If I can give any advice, measure twice and cut once.... I inherited a metal lathe from my late dad which I have recently started using for turning pens which I am really enjoying. Unfortunately like most hobbies you will need to make an investment. If it is something that you really enjoy then any investment will be worth it.
