my goodness you do enjoy the punishment After last years mtb ride, I vowed never again, there are much better rides to do and get proper value for money. the road race will be good, (as always) and so will Berg n bush, Midvaal, Van Gaalens Trailseeker, and Crater Cruise leading up to it.
  3. I have really enjoyed the Formula brakes (used K18 and K24 for 5 years) Simple, reliable, flip flop leavers, easy to bleed and easy to change pads. Currently using Avid Elixer 9, also nice, similar to Formula, although G2rotors are noisier. Much prefer both compared to the Shimano i started off with.
  4. hard to get specialised online, due to retail agreements. Go visit Summit Cycles and chat with Anton about what you need.
  5. just click on the link. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApcNMgTrSzkTcmpCbmF5Y0Q0cmd6VGdTN0JsUWotQnc&hl=en#gid=0 Snakeskin versions work fine for tubeless. 2.2 width, I use them on 29" Haven UST rims.
  6. check out tire weights here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApcNMgTrSzkTcmpCbmF5Y0Q0cmd6VGdTN0JsUWotQnc&hl=en#gid=0 Crossmark doesnt do well in wet at all. nic front, ralph back has been pretty good for me so far. Not mad about the hard rubber Maxxis uses, lasts forever, but I prefer a softer compound.
  7. I am doing it, as for route profile, Bring it! All good training for Nov 18...
  8. sorry, choked again
  9. ideally you should use them every 45 mins with water. If you are using an electrolyte sports drink too, then the two conflict and you should use the gel less frequently. if using 2 bottles, water in one, and an electrolyte sports drink in the other for use in the last third of the event. a 60km mountain bike race might be quite tough and slow, and energy replacement/management is part of your battle plan. some use bananas, some use potatoes, fruit cake, energy bars. You need to train the way you race, thus practice with all sorts of things to find what works for you, everyone is different. A 60km road race is over before you know it, so energy drinks may well be sufficient. longer road races, switch back to the 45min gel water rule, with an electrolyte sports drink for the last third of the race.
  10. sad to have missed, ball 'n chain reigned in leash this morning...

  12. nope, sorry. I tried on a pair of specialised BG road shoes and they sold themselves...
  13. Road bunch riding rules generally dont apply to MTB. Safety is an issue as you can see obstacles whilst wheelsucking. Unless you introduce yourself and ask to join in their ride, dont be surprised when they have vanished on their own planned route.
  14. thats "retread" not Retard... but I like this one better... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_TZUajfuwXxQ/TNSmo-a6bPI/AAAAAAAAASk/VfGIemOGCxY/s1600/Scariest,++Scout+as+a+Wolf+in+sheep%27s+clothing.JPG

  17. er you mean a sheep in wolfs clothing dont you?
  18. loll, the penny has dropped...
  19. I have a Spyderco (60mm blade) folding knife attached to my car keys. Its quite unbelievable how useful this little knife is.
  20. I have started using Look Blade, very nice, good comfortable connection and quite a stable platform. Lighter than the shimano 105 and Ultegra pedals I used previously, quite happy with Look.
  21. what nonsense. you are causing danger to the entire group if you are looking behind you and not concentrating on whats happening ahead of you. no wonder there are so many crashes in road races... the last thing on most peoples mind (unless you are racing VA, is making people suffer). most are trying to stay sheltered in the bunch out of the wind and conserve energy for their next pull in front. edit: unless they are delivering pizza and waiting to sprint the end...
  22. best you stick to mountain biking or chess then.
  23. move over or sit up. the guys following will get the drift and take over if you slow down enough.
  24. Nobodys forced to do anything, you make your own decisions. if you cross the white line to gain shelter from the wind behind the rider infront of you, thats your choice - safe or not. If you decide to only wheelsuck and wait for others to do the leading, thats also your choice (dont expect to make any friends). If you choose to move up and put some effort in pulling the bunch, its also your choice, and hopefully you are strong enough to shed those content with sucking. ffs make up your own mind, its racing, not sheep farming...
