  1. Does anyone have the details regarding the ammount of laps for the road race per age group?
  2. if there were safe alternate cycle/pedestrian paths along each and every busy road then there would be no problem. its time the municipalites started taking their town planning seriously and spend money where it is needed
  3. give it a go, cant hurt, much. Cyclelab website says you do need a license. Does anyone know the distance of the road race? There is a route map at cyclelab, but that isnt that long, will it be 2, 3 or 4 laps? no info on central gauteng website either.
  4. yes, this is true. if you start at the beginning of a segment, take a short cut, and finish at the end of a segment you will place higher than those riding the full route. Its easy to see this though and you will most likely have your ride flagged by those doing the full route, in which case your subversive efforts are for nought. Whats also annoying is that if a route along a segment is changed long after it was first ridden, eg windy bits added to an old straigh singletrack, then there is no realistic way you can challenge for that KOM. Also guys using cellphone apps get given a lot of leeway as opposed to guys using better GPS devices as the cellphones are not as accurate.
  5. also at Karatara, there are a selection of 3 routes that were used in the PSG Garden Route Trail race, very nice indeed.
  6. you can use Strava as your training log book, upgrade to premium. when racing your efforts will b e quicker than when jra, so does it really matter? the biggest issue I have is that when going on a group ride with mates, you should make it clear at the start whether you are going stavassholing or riding together for fun. having your mates peel off as fast as they can on a premeditated sections does get annoying and spoils the group ride.
  7. looks like if you want you badge for completing the challenge you need to fill in a request at the Rapha website: http://www.rapha.cc/the-festive-500--2012
  8. air leaking out of a tubeless installation is usually the result of a poor tubeless installation. it takes a bit of time to do properly, and often the LBS could not be bothered or are too busy. Joes and Stans websites have good videos of sealing the tires properly. The rubber of the tires often have tiny holes in the sidewalls that need to be sealed up properly. you can pipoint any bigger leaks by immersing parts of the wheel and tire in the bath or pool, but this wont reveal the very small air leaks. take your wheel off, pump it up hard to 4bar. Hold it flat horizontal in front of your chest, allow the furthest edge of the wheel to drop 5 degrees and shake it forward an back slowly for 20 counts. keeping the wheel in that position, turn it 10-15 degrees clockwise and repeat the 20 shakes. go all the way round the wheel till you get back to your start point. turn the wheel over and repeat the process for the other side. this ensures sealent is driven into all the small sidewall leaks and bead/rim connection. let some of the air out and repump to your desired pressure and go ride. hope this helps.
  9. Bombs work fine, you even get 25g bigger ones now for 29" wheels. small hand pumps work but take forever, and you can forget it if the sidewall/rim seal has been broken. Then its time to fit a spare tube and go conventional for the rest of the ride. Also makes sense to carry a spare tube that has slime installed (slightly heavier), otherwise you may puncture 5 m down the track again, and have a bigger problem, ending up walking back. Get a hand pump with a big volume to make tube pumping quicker on the mtb.
  10. Just leave it. its an absolute mission to try peel it off, and its quite harmless. Nobody checks in there anyway so you are safe from the 'style' police.
  11. Having loads of white sealent sloshing about does not help, its the small little bits (looks like fine pale yellow breadcrumbs or sawdust) thats the active ingredient. as you use the wheel these bits adhere to the inner walls of the tire, or make those álien' blobs over time. If you dont have enough of these little bits in the white liquid, the hole you are trying to seal will not have anything to fill it and stop the puncture. Hence add to your sealent regularily and make sure you shake the sealent despenser bottle properly beforehand so that the bits that have collected at the bottom of the despenser are properly dispersed. The valve breaking could be for many reasons, a rock tossed up and causing it to fracture, a faulty valve, a bad installation, or perhaps very vigourous pumping style that caused the metal to fatigue. I dont think the cold flow of the co2 from the bomb would do it. perhaps a metalurgist can throw more light on this. I have used both Stans and Joes, no problems with either, they are very similar in function and make up.
  12. Bombs dont cause that. Its a pretty normal occurrence as the latex 'bits' in the sealent collect together. a lot of the latex bits binds itself to the inside of the tire, and some collects as these little aliens blobs. quite harmless. you have to keep topping up your tire sealent at regular intervals for it to remain effective and seal punctures.
  13. Oprah. pfffft... Armstrong certaingly goes about things the wrong way doesnt he. jerk.
  14. what a wondeful idea.

  16. bikeradar review seems a little disappointing.
  17. I can see I need to apply a triple dose of sarcasm to my comments to get through to TNT1
  18. oh my goodness. i have no words...
  19. Still tearing up thinking about this tragic loss. Heartfelt condolences to the Family. Burry, may you rest in peace.
  20. cool, cant wait. #6 for me.
  21. I see that you will also no longer be able to claim points for racing from SA Active, but need to do this through Discovery's website too. And if your event isnt listed it may take 8 weeks for them to verify it. Kinda pointless re-inventing the wheel each year, SA Active although not perfect worked fairly well. I must say the Living Vitality pages are not very user friendly or intuitive, and really just pass on info, rather than analyse your activities. Navigating it is painful. BUT atleast I dont have to own a polar to get some extra points.
  22. how about 'walking' it?
