JB - Would a wheel with no rim accelerate better? Would it be lighter? Would you still need brakes? Maybe you should invent one for the weight weenies.

+1 - the standard brakes exceed what is necessary - disc brakes have more parts = more weight - Unless you can think of a way to build a wheel without a rim you may as well use the rim for braking. JB, have you invented a rimless wheel yet? I will attend that wheel building course - Then I probably won't need to replace the spokes and nipples on my motard However, this being said I have heard discs are an advantage on a cyclocross bike.

I heard the one timing company was started by the organizers of the big race in CT. They now use this as leverage to "force" you to enter events timed by them so you can get a good seeding for that race and of course for the big Jhb race - almost a way of forcing themselves in and squashing the opposition. When they started off they were shocking but have definitely improved.

If you have a speed sensor the Garmin uses that data with the GPS on or off. Speed sensor is much more accurate - when you lose signal it still measures. Roll your bike and check. I did same on my super motard (digital speedo, not Garmin) and my speed is 100% accurate up to 185km/h (DISCLAIMER: I would never ride that fast because it is breaking the law and I am a member on the hub).

Buy a workshop stand and research how to do stuff on the net - a few special tools that don't cost too much and you do it yourself - my bike and chain was washed and lubed every week (also washing the bike on a proper stand takes half the time). Whatever you do don't buy a stand with a scale because it is all downhill from there....

I have - Laid an informal complaint so they phoned the supplier and the supplier jumped around but nothing happened. NCC emailed me asking if they must close it or if I want to make it formal - I filled in the forms and when I tried to get the suppliers details (for the forms) they started jumping around again - That was 2 weeks ago, one more week and I put in my formal complaint if the matter is not resolved. They are in Centurion - best to go there although I can send you the form and their contact details.
