    Cape Epic 2026

disagree, ACE needs to keep innovating to stay relevant. The event peaked when all the top XC riders did it, that was 10years ago. not a great example. The 2026 TdF Femme is 9 days and 1176 km, vs the 21 stages doing 3333km for the mens. Despite, that the ladies version is now a stand alone event and has come from being totally ignored to a real viable challenge that stands mostly on it's own now. yup, the ladies race is looking like it will be paintdryingly boring again. Got exciting with the duct tape incident a few years back, but that was a one off from memory. but they do need to keep trying to make it work. Women's cycling has gone up a few notches this past decade, but this race has not been able to capitilise on it. "Give them equal prize money and all is cool" is not a great strategy.
  2. this is baie mnandi. how does it ride??!!
  3. Totally I have seen more firm commitment from a kid who just kissed a girl at a school disco...
  4. Should be. It has always been the 2nd Sunday, but they got caught out a few years back when someone else* booked the stadium before them so now they are very organised. *pop quiz - who dis?!

is there really no webversion? I have a nice big screen but can only use a phone?
  6. What's the motivation to try and finish 3:50 plus small change?
  7. ok since we're talking about drinking*.... my algotube obviously send me some Argus rider vids check this guy out - some german triathlete based in kommetjie. he made the very unfortunate error of thinking one can rock up 20minutes before your argust start time - maybe the time spend filming yourself getting out of your jimny was not really available! but then i remembered there was a megatonload of beers at the oakley sytand on chappies this okey is here doing the epic i think? at this point they are getting some beers from the oakly chappies stop (edit - 8mins in when on chappies) my stoker would not let me stop for a cold one but wait. is that poweraid from a draught tap?
  8. Are you really suggesting two way traffic on Victoria road? I've only done the "short route" in the fire year and then the detours with no chappies was oukaaps then M3 north. Thought it was a great option, do people really not like it?
  9. I'd be very surprised if TNPA grants cyclists access to commute through the harbour, but I guess you can always try.
  10. I hope you can find someone. Maybe delete the advert where you were selling it cheaper last week. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/event-entries/892542/cape-epic-2026-team-entry-opportunity?return_to=L2NsYXNzaWZpZWRzL2MvZW50cmllcy1hbmQtc2VydmljZXM_c29ydF9ieT1wcmljZV9kZXNj
  11. history shows that CTCT love picking out the naughty boys and DSQ them. They will be pouring over the evidence, some public shaming coming soon! I'm fully expecting some people to get letters asking why they did the trip to camps bay in 2:00 and then 1:50 from there to the finish - do we put a "i got a flat tyre" template response together for them? ...net result is that in future you will see people just entering as analog bikes and riding ebikes anyway. then the next year they will have two noticeably different numbers in response.
  12. It's not like CTCT Trust really needed additional help organizing CTCT, but the Golazo thing appears to have been part of the package to join the UCI Gran fondo series (which they also organise). One can only hope that this really does help elevate the event to the international stage it deserves. https://www.bicycling.co.za/race-news/cape-town-cycle-tour-joins-uci-gran-fondo-world-series-for-2026/ It's a partnership and can be broken, the beneficiaries of the event will remain the charities. I was skeptical of this Golazo group anouncing the 2027 World trailrunning champs on TMNP from seemingly nowhere but it seems like they have the right people to make it happen and essentially it wouldn';t happen without them. Time will tell

  14. Yes and no. The power of Ebikes just gives the twats the ability to display their twatness easier. The fact that they are "Expensive" also means the porportion of "entitled" people riding them is higher than the general population. You used to have to do your time in racing before you learnt how to bunch ride and follow the system, now anyone with R50k can jump in and cause havoc. and pull away if there's strong words up a hill. They got told not to race, it got ignored by enough so now there is the 3:50 rule. I'm a massive supporter of ebikes, but they are definitely guests at this event - enough of them ruining the experience for the muscle powered riders and there's a serious issue brewing. I don't think we're there yet. this is a picture from last year, but relevant to your experience. All I'm going to say is that you can read the shirts, it's a Belgian beer brand that means "The Cat" - make your own conclusion.
  15. @the_roadie maybe they saw your hub user name and wanted to keep you in the dark?
  16. If I had a teenage son I'd be telling him how amazing the cycling women are these days - must be the fastest growing segment of the sport. So I had a look at numbers for the 109km finishers to back up my theory, and instead it backfired. 2026: M/F 14 700/ 3 300 2016: M/F 22 700 / 6100 2006: M/F 21 700/ 5 900 2002: M/F 22 000 / 6000 1996: (no gender splits on racetec for these dates) So what's up - there are LESS ladies doing it than before both in quantum and proportion? Very suprised to see that. Kulula days are long gone and Daddy doesn't pay for flights for the whole family from JHB anymore??
  17. I went and had a look at this one, looks like you need to have a preconceived idea of not liking this message before reading it. We have a mayor and premier who actually ride the event. Could they do more for cyclists? Sure, but hard to argue that this is just for clicks and likes. I dunno, some people are seemingly only happy when they have something to moan about. We are the most unequal country in the world. The really bad is really bad and the really good is really good. I routinely cross paths from people of all over the planet that constantly remind me how good we have it here. Just this weekend, plenty of positive vibes from those on the route. ok, will take that on the chin and try to be better.
  18. Wind has been hooking all night in fish hoek. Know it's not nearly so bad at the start, but keep a steady eye from muizenberg
  19. Solomon's used to bring down half their store and still be cheaper! Clearly it just doesn't make sense to do it this way.
  20. wow, Spartacus looks pretty damn dishevelled here - owning a team must be hard on the health! compared to a year ago at his own marker https://www.instagram.com/p/DG57DaFNUGc/?img_index=1

I expect some team to hammer the prologue, Beers to klap the field on stage 1 with TN hanging on for them to move into Yellow with a nice cushion. Then blow up by stage 4 latest...... For Toyota Specialized Imbuko, the goal is clear: race aggressively, build partnerships and earn the yellow leaders’ jersey. my armchair advice would be the opposite: Nortje came 3rd last year, which must be the best so he is not totally out of depth here, but was a comfortable gap to Braidot and Avondetto who came 2nd and are back. The hammer needs to chill on the nail for the first 2/3 stages and see how the field plays out.
  23. What does he actually do? He is the "CEO" of the best run province, by a country mile. He was actually dressed like that as part of awareness, yet you still complain because you feel for some election year chit chat. Go back into your hole.
  24. Yeah, nah yeah, totally disagree. You most definitely can break laws that don't make sense* as a form of protest. Here is a nice dude breaking a law, by burning his passbook to protest Sharpeville massacre in 1960. Obviously a massive leap to riding on the N1, but the principal is the same. *more than happy to debate this section of road being legal as a side fact.
  25. Neeeeeeever going to happen. Port is controlled access, they most definitely do not want it as a thoroughfare.
