  1. Don't think so, not sure if you read the actual article. This was ladies who had their race number receive a top10 and then get an invite to an awards dinner that evening. Obviously they didn't pitch and two and two were put together. Also loads of tipoffs, your name is printed on your bib and that's often a giveaway if Arthur is Martha. The Running Mann is a data nerd, and now he's on the TTOM board there's a way to actually have some proper investigation into what's going on. I casually went through the top100 females, and just picked the ones who got a top result from a late starting batch. pinged 4 more. So essentially at least 6% of the top ladies were a man running in their entry without substituting. This is an easy one to trigger from photo evidence, but I figure there will be a huge amount of people who ran in someone else's race number (bib bandits) - imagine how many male-male swaps there are that fall under the cracks. That reminds me, here's his classification of race cheats, we really could do with a cycling focused blogger like this!: There are generally seven acknowledged types of cheating: Tag Teaming (running Two Oceans as a relay race with a buddy) Taxiing (covering a portion of the route in a vehicle) Phantoms (one runner, two timing chips) Bad Seeds (submitting an incorrect qualifier or getting someone else to run your qualifier for you) Bandits (running in someone else’s number) Ritchie McCawing (entering from the side / joining the race along the route) Suppositories (batch jumpers who push from behind into places they don’t belong) One of the push factors for this is that this event is massively oversubscribed. It sold out 17 000 in a day last september, but subs closed 43days before the event. Despite plenty of warnings, people still take the risk because they have an actual entry they can't use. Potentially subs will be run differently next year, but the event was on notice from CoCT because of the 2025 disaster. CTCT used to be sold out, they would also close subs early but now that they are below limits they make a plan! I guess you have to, too late to admit the truth!!

    RASA 2026

don't see any discussion on this one - it's currently underway and a massive unfolding story. What is RASA? It's the "bikepacking version" of the Freedom Challenge. So it goes from maritzburg to wellington, it cuts out a lot of the scratchy bits and you can use your GPS. Dotwatching is here https://rasa26.maprogress.com/ Drikus is smashing it man alone out front, saw a video interview with him where he said it is easily the most scenic route he's ever done. While he's staring at the road and his wheel, he's taking mental snapshots all the way for his memory bank. There is some incredible content generated already. Daily video updates instaface too https://www.instagram.com/p/DXJJGqMjOju/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== and even a podcast update on spotify - this one with special guest Benky
  4. I'll give you a pearler. You blanked out three names there. One of them was this guy who came on here and said Everesting was a piece of piss and he was going to klap the record because it was achieveable and he was the oke to do it because special ninja stripes or something. I think the first thread might have gone too far and got squashed - this was his second attempt, he got halfway it seems He was right about the record, but it just wasn't him that got it. Think a retired contador was there first and then it got consecutively smashed for a good year. Anyway, he seems to have found inner peace now, somewhere in europe. https://www.instagram.com/paulvanzweel/
  5. Good thing to see that the new TTOM board (and The Running Mann clearly involved) are not taking *** with race cheats. https://runningmann.co.za/2026/04/14/two-oceans-2026-top-10-ladies-disqualified
  6. a month later and I still have zero pikshas. not to bothered really, but the 11yr old stoker is not impressed! Maybe i didn't stick the helmet sticker on so lekker but the bike board surely works pretty well. anyone else?
  7. yeah, been posting the trajectory of the monuments here. The streak could even have been longer than that but MvdP buried himself for Philipsen to win MSR '24. goes all the way back to PR 2022 when someone other than the superstar won a monument. they don't like sharing still some fun coming up with amstel gold, fleche wallone and LBL in the next 10 days.
  8. The cancelled one was 2023, so think the backlash has subsided on that. They did actually refund money on tented accommodation which was a nice touch. but no response on my query, so I'm also not really constructive on that.
  9. easy measure on affordability of stage races Are finishers getting the race logo as a tattoo? YES - you're paying for hype NO - the race could be considered affordable
  10. not going to engage on this one, agree to disagree. holey moley, ok will continue down this path. Yes. there is real rage and hatred against ALL cyclists. It's not just online, and it's definitely not just in south africa. And not all of these people are driving a car. they could have a direct influence as cops, lawmakers, policy decison makers etc etc. Not every acts and reacts like you, but I think you knew that already.
  11. I've been around here long enough to know that it would be a complete waste of our time to try and reason with you that some cyclists riding like complete tjops is maybe not a good thing for cyclists in general.
  12. wow this got heated! It blows my mind how many cyclists can't reason the possibility that cyclists could maybe be part of the problem. The depressing thing is that they are unlikely to be part of the solution too. No matter what is really done, I guess we will just escalate this thing until someone important like a top local high profile cyclist is taken out. Massive outcry and real positive steps could be a potential minor positive outcome to this tragedy...oh wait. Speaking of things over a decade ago, here is the sentiment from a popular blogger (remember those?) on the Atlantic seaboard from 2011. Could have been written last week.
  13. good point, this is a classic event and worth doing if you are looking to fill your calendar over winter. I have contacted the organiser directly, will feedback.
  14. Wout enters the chat. Sure just 2 out of the 5, but he is more likely to win Flanders+ LBL & Il Lombardia than MVDP is going to win those second two - especially Lombardia. Entering them for a start is the biggest issue, his program is just as rigidly stuck to grand tours as a GC guy. His monuments record with both wins as bookends. Buy enough tickets and you can win the lottery. 1 4 3 4 4 3 4 3 3 2 8 7 6 3 2 1 but after two consecutive 2nd places at PR, Pog remains the obvious choice to get this done. He might really pull out all stops to tick this one off in coming years.
  15. great post Solly - came here to share it.
  16. sjoe.. a R5k jacket that doesn't cut the mustard, I guess the lesson here is being able to try the actual garment first. 45 000mm head is quite extreme i think, and they don't even quote the weight https://ciovita.co.za/products/mens-apex-hydro-repel-waterproof-jacket?srsltid=AfmBOorgAldklB8fsXQBsLp-rxTUh121p4Z_8uWG0axln1QT2mpMLb5w There was a sale end of last month and I got one of these for R2k, it's probably bigger than what I want as a large but looking forward to winter testing it soon soon. You might be able to email them and request the sale price with a story https://www.firstascent.co.za/first-ascent-men-s-vertex-expedition-jacket?srsltid=AfmBOoqHooSzEM0OgzTojTTTScKVHP81XtnqqrbPOjk-XPeQ5SKcA1_t
  17. banging the Pog classics hype bell again here. This is his monuments run since covid. he has currently won the last 4 actual monuments in a row. 2024 looks like a dry spell in comparison, but you need to remember he did win the Giro, TdF and Rainbows. If we count Strade Bianchi as the "6th" monument, then his run going back to the monuments he has raced (LBL 2024) is 11131211111. bliksem. throw in 2 tdf and 2 WC in the hat too. looking here - De Vlaemink/Merckx in the 70s is the only period that comes close to the MVDP/TP domination - with Merckx's 19 victories over 11 seasons once including 3 in a row. Combined the 70s belgians once got 5 in a row. MVDP/TP have won the last 12, and that goes back to Philipsen being set up for the sprint win. Want to bet on anyone else winning PR/LBL/Lombardia this year and breaking this run? Classics strike rate Merckx 19/53 (11 seasons) TP 12/22 (6 seasons) De Vlaemink 11/50 (10 seasons) MVDP 8/23 (7 seasons)
  18. done -
  19. A dedicated thread to the man behind Du Toit and Le Jeune handbuilt steel bicycles (and more). He passed away on 3 April at the age of 76. please share memories of him, and his bikes. If you have any of pictures of ones you owned too. His instagram got quiet, but there will be a lot of content on the web so please post that too. https://www.instagram.com/dutoitcycles/
  20. Pulling this thread out of the darkness, as I couldn't find one that made more sense. It felt only fitting that this sad news should go here with the legacy left behind. for all those who swung a leg over a Du Toit or Le Jeune fiets. RIP Francois du Toit - 3 April 2026 I leave it up to those who knew him well to share memories of him and his bicycles.
  21. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2861095584231297 this is the reaction to a a taxi/group rider incident...
  22. What did Tadej litter, hopefully not the pair of gloves he turfed!
  23. I dunno if it would have made a difference but why did MvdP ever put his nose into the wind?
  24. current odds for Roubaix: Pogs insane classics palmares, his last 10 have seen seven wins, a 2nd and two 3rds.
