  1. well there's an answer on multiple usernames/identities. I really think the ones done under his own name could be just the tip of the iceberg. I would get so confused, but i guess that's half the trick. If true, that would complicate things, a lot.
  2. This is a damn good question! WCG don't seem to do much of the actual finer homework on this route. There are plenty of people doing it, so there could well be a bike friendly shuttle service that is just not advertised much to the wider market. https://capecycleroutes.co.za/route/cross-cape-route the fb page they have is sort of monitored, you might have some luck here. hello@wesgro.co.za finally @Dom N it's not "The Plett". unless you are referring to a fancy hotel and stay there enough to give it a nickname. If that's the case, then try 2oceansvibe airways rental car for 4 bikes? that sounds like a really expensive way to save about 2 hours of travel time.
  3. Not small for the runner, and imagine her legal fees over 10 years? I don't know how the judge decides to split the blame 70/30. If you're doing a race, you have right of way. Spectator must open their eyes and not do stupid stuff. If it's not on closed roads then the event needs to cough up out of their insurance. Opi oma this crap.
  4. He joined the page? Surely it would be a closed group and admin can bounce him? The more I think about it, screwing around your church congregation might be the biggest mistake.
  5. No creativity needed. None whatsoever. Just do no nonsense roadblocks at 5am on payday Saturday am. Get lawyers, doctors and the rest there so there are no slip ups. You will slam drunk a dozen drivers each month. Word will get out, and then the game will change a bit. That's where technology is obvious. Get cameras, lpr software and build a database of drivers who are possible repeat offenders. Then you know where to find them on a payday Saturday am.
  6. Remember how people think the Argus is always windy? Three great years in a row and the memory still lives on. That's anecdotal data. Sure, ATP got two years in a row in monster weather. I did both, it was fun. (My bike was fine). But is that normal? Long term weather data has 4.2 days of precipitation August for Swellendam. That's actual data. Source: https://weatherspark.com/y/85361/Average-Weather-in-Swellendam-Western-Cape-South-Africa-Year-Round#Figures-PrecipitationProbability Happy to see something else with local records

  8. I'm 184cm. My 2013 RM Vertex is an XL and fits me well.
  9. The answer seems fairly obvious to me. there are okes dropping massive ZARs on doing the epic. They get everything from the latest SWorks (that not even those red jersey guys on the podium can justify this to their sponsors), training plans, nutrition plans, bling training camps, camp upgrade everything, massage. but they don't seem to think that entry level skills training is worth the effort/money? A simple 3/4 sessions with a competent rider/coach will get them down the hills quicker and with less effort. and ENJOY it more. Seems like the easiest bang for buck, or maybe I am missing something? the other option is to name and shame, or get more of this content out. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2122325068001413
  10. height/leg length is probably a better indication than age. if my maths is correct, you put an 8yr old on a 26" and skipped 24" outright. I would guess she is pretty lanky to make that work. I am on the opposite end of the scale. my 10yr old is still on his 20". we got him a 24" but he didn;t want to move over. That then got stolen before we sold the 20" so he's back on that for now (want to get a decent bike, and they are hard to find). I don't believe in buying bikes a size too big with the intention to grow into. if you buy and sell 2nd hand then the hit you take is not massive. also, you can learn a lot on the "riding with kids thread" edit:link added
  11. do you work for Epic/Ironman?
  12. is it just me, or where there basically no mechanicals in the elite fields this year? I know jobert/nortje needed to swap out a wheel from their backup team in one of the early stages, but that's about it. Didn't follow it as closely in the past, but can't really think of any that affected the racing. Things getting more reliable, or riders going for more durable stuff (ie. tyres/wheels)?

  14. thought I'd do a sanity check on this for my own peace of mind since I'm on a 2013 non boost carbon hardtail that I'm still very happy with, but upgraditis always a thing! now this is just a filter selection on bike24.com wheel with 27.5 selected. While it is covered mainly in boost, I'd be more worried if my frame and fork were QR.
  15. are we looking for more sophisticated answers than: "chat to your banker about an extension on your overdraft" Jokes aside, I'd like to see some input from people who do this on a tight budget. Some stuff not worth the bucks would definitely be worth highlighting for the general joe public epic wannabe rider.
  16. Clearly the Mike Bolhuis crew isn't too concerned with lawyers letters, as this is the source of that article. YOU MAY SHARE THIS PUBLIC DOCUMENT https://www.mikebolhuis.co.za/post/success-project-taun-bewsher-persistent-scammer-and-fraudster-arrested-part-3
  17. Tyres changed 3 times. so 4 sets in total! (brake pads every day.) Surprised to see he didn't go with a dropper post on the more single track heavy stages. *************** this is a great feature, thanks for doing it
  18. Clearly you weren't that interested then...this says as much about you as a potential tire kicker wasting a retailer's time as it does their customer feedback performance. but you did take the time to come post it here.... @EasyBike potential sale here, or not. maybe just checking out on pricing across the board. (let's see what that does)
  19. Sounds like it's time for the legal experts to give their views. @Harryn still around? I would like to think that multiple cases opened up would add some weight, if so anyone involved before should really join this effort listed above.
  20. a nuanced look at this. https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling/analysis-which-of-tadej-pogacar-mathieu-van-der-poel-or-remco-evenepoel-can-win-all-5-monuments
  21. I thought that too. and then figured he probably does both and we are seeing just the tip of the iceberg. Might even have multipe id books for all you know.

  24. She has a steep road ahead of her, or she can cut her losses and bail - tough position to be in and he hope she has the backup network you mention (and a solid prenup). On reflection I looked up the first (i think) thread/post he did here. hard lockdown, so out of every crisis there is an opportunity. He got called out immediately, but showed remorse. I am glad I gave him the benefit of the doubt and a second chance back then, but he used that up and more. but on reflection, it is clear to see that he was believing his own bullsh1t. Quite amazing it is almost five years already. If ONLY he put so much energy into a legitimate business.
