  1. Pantani, I'm a little disappointed in your responses, you are usually a voice of reason and a few good laughs too! What you are saying if you break it down is it's ok to cheat. That's right cheat, never mind the safety aspects! If you go on the wrong side of the road when the race rules stipulate that you must stay on the left side of the road and it's not full road closure you are cheating because you are leaving the course and taking a shorter route, a few meters off every corner on a decent soon adds up. In motor sport they call it gaining and advantage if you cut too many apexes . It is no different to cutting across an access road or whatever to shave some meters off in a sprint. Because one day, in a serious race you could find yourself relegated after winning if a switched on team manager or managers decide to protest, could happen to anyone...

  3. The UCI backwards goons would have to change their silly little rules first!
  4. Well, what a pleasent little article. At least we can confirm that the murderous look in the average psycho-motorist eyes is genuine then! What a great read just before riding home tonight...
  5. Set numbers would be cool, like in BMX and linked to your seeding index maybe? eg VT1 (top vet) etc...
  6. Garzelli road a one-off lighter Idol with special geometry called the Idol UD (Unidirectional) which is still in the prototype stage at the moment. Pez has some good things to say about the standard Idol though. http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2007/features/giro_wrap The latest Giant TCR Advanced is stiffer than the 2006 ISP model. The Specialized Tarmac SL should be going at a discount in the near future as stock of the Tarmac SL2 will be arriving soon (a better machine by all accounts). The Pinarello 4:13 is nice but weighs 200-300 grams more than the Giant for similar money. The ultimate Pinerallo would have to be the Prince carbon, rave reviews even compared to the Paris carbon. http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2007/features/dauphine_libere_107 Kiwi2007-11-16 07:16:56
  7. Hey Mallo, have you been checking up on me he hee!!! I though I better check to see what is still on the web about me. Thankfully the stuff about the three TTs I went off course on when I first started racing in the UK is gone (I think), one guy actually offered me a compass!!! Found this on a website though from a race in Southern England, check out the sky...thats what they call freezing fog in the UK . Freakin cold stuff. See you guys Saturday hopefully. http://www.beith.co.za/Media/4537A15.jpgKiwi2007-11-09 04:00:47
  8. Do not agree. They are ROAD users. Once again, are or aren't we vehicles. According to a Metro cop I spoke to we are pedestrians! Personally I'm sick of pedestrians walking on the road when there are footpaths, I have seen four dead pedestrians in the last 12 months. Prior to that I had seen one in my entire life! At least runners are looking where they are going and (generally) are not running across the road like it is some sort on game.
  9. No, I actually caught and passed them (I was the one with the pack on riding Power Cranks) I don't think they liked that - maybe that's why they went through the red lights? True, more cyclists get hit from behind. My point was how can we point fingers if we are breaking the law too? Kiwi2007-11-07 00:19:32
  10. Hi Lurker, I haven't got exact figures but I think you are right. Check Shauns post about the online system, it's not running yet (hopefully early next week) which will mean all money goes to Sign-Up. Pitty we couldn't get a network to help?
  11. I have just got in from my training ride and man, I'm pissed. Considering all the stuff here and elsewhere about cyclist being killed and maimed I was gutted to see cyclist who DO know better running red lights this morning. If the club captains of these riders allow this stupidity to go on, well, what hope have we got? I regularly see Cycle Lab and MTN bunches go through the red lights, just one block up from the Police station. Don't expect any sympathy if you get knocked down there. At least the hospital is right there too. Those guys ran five sets of lights in the six k's I was behind them and as the last two Cycle Lab guys noticed, I was right behind them at the end despite stopping at all the lights. They would have also noticed that not one taxi ran the lights in that time. I don't think it even needs to be said but when we break the law it doesn't reflect well on the sponsors on our club kits either. There are only so many sponsors out there. Think of it this way, do you still buy the stuff advertised on the side of the bus/truck/taxi that cut you up again? Oh, and buy the way, to the guy on the shiny bare aluminum/carbon Cannondale System Six in the Bar One kit; if you didn't like what I yelled at you as you went through the red light, you should have heard what the two guys standing on the side of the road said. Those are the guys we need the support of. If we can't obey the law why the hell should they care what happens to us? Think about it now, not while you are sitting in your hospital bed filling out claim forms - if you are lucky enough to still be able to write that is

It's the best bit of stuff you can chuck on your bike! Look on cyclingnews.com at the probikes and see how many you spot. It just means you can get your chain back on by shifting back up to the big ring. No need to look/reach down to try and get the chain back on in the middle of a bunch that is just about to go nuts at the bottom of a climb!!!
  13. SMS donatecyclingetc to 42266 to contribute R30 Now up and running! Sorry everyone for the delay! Note the slightly different number. Kiwi2007-11-06 06:36:53

    What Wheels?

Get some Ksyrium clinchers, even the latest ES version can be got second hand for R4500. They are light and tough, look at any European cyclocross races and you even see then used there! There may be some bargains for brand new sets soon too as they have just be superseded by a new version call Ksyrium SL which we don't have here yet. If you go tubbies then get some Tufo tub tape, no more glue and you can stick another tubbie on on the side of the road and it wont roll off allowing you carry on at full speed.

    Cyclist Killed

OK Guys, I have been in contact with Shaun at Sign-Up and I have been able to set up an SMS donation number for him through Cycling ETC. SMS donate cyclingetc to 33003 to contribute R30 http://www.cyclingetc.co.za will have more details soon for larger donations or corporate donations. They are in the process of creating a link that will be offered to cycle club websites and online stores etc for anyone that really does want to help making cycling safer. I have also arranged to have a banner printed for Shaun @ Sign-Up who will have a both at the 94.7 Expo this week. Support Shaun as he is actually doing something to make our rides safer and has put a heck of a lot of effort into this. An article about Sign-Up is in the current issue of Bicycling. See also http://www.sign-up.co.za for more info! Kiwi2007-11-04 23:50:57

Ps my Mum said someone on the NZ All Blacks fan website had started an auction for the All Blacks Team at $1. At least the Boks could use them as cheap training fodder!!!Kiwi2007-11-05 23:03:04
  17. Cool, if anyone knows the guy or can put me touch with him as I know some one who knows someone who runs one of the SMS services...
