  1. Damn - this is terrible news... Speedy recovery to Alec...
  2. Time to put a prepaid unit @ home i think!! What we pay Eskom - doesnt reflect our actualy usage! They just fitted the entire complex with new metres...
  3. so this machine makes spokes... whats the advantage of using custom spokes instead of just buying off the shelf spokes? not many MTBs with chrome spokes eh!
  4. Watched it last night! This race is insane!!!!

    Giro Xar

Upgraded from my entry level begginner helmet to a Giro Xar... The difference is amazing - more comfortable, lighter, and keeps the head cooler! Highly recommended for anyone looking to upgrade to a decent helmet... Also the adjustment mechanism works like a dream and can be adjusted while riding...
  6. If you dont like their prices, either let them know and wait for a discount - or shop around... CycleLab is just as expensive, if not more, with ZERO discounts. What you see is what you pay... Between Westdene, Cajees and Solomons, their prices usually vary around 10-20% but the guys are also always eager to match or beat prices... Need to use that as your advantage - if you are a bargaining type - that is...
  7. Thanks mate... Tons of useful info fromt his thread... When I refer to sample - I mean, measure 10-20 links instead of 1 link to get an average wear... So in summary... Cheap chains are as good as expensive chains - unless you are a weight weenie... found this "How Its Made" link in You Tube - for those who are interested in seeing how chains are manufactured...
  8. Teak is awesome! Next give the blue/black a go... View Point can be a killer!

    Rietvlei

lol!! Its on my list of places to ride... Will hopefully check it out this weekend!
  10. Awesome thread! Loved the Bold and Beautiful antics! So as a newbie (800km ) I deduce the following: 1. A clean chain is the best chain. 2. Expensive chains doesnt necessarily mean that its going to last longer. 3. Chains dont stretch, they wear. 4. Chain checkers arent always 100% + take a sample measurement if you are using a chain checker. 5. Using multiple chains creates a reliable "chain use environment" 6. Cassette wear cant be assessed 7. Worn chains affects the front blades and not necessarily the cassette 8. Chains are a touchy topic on the forum So my questions: 1. Can SRAM chains can be used on Shimano drive trains? 2. What are - ramped and non ramped links? 3. How do I choose a chain to suit my drive train?
  11. Awesome work!
  12. Now thats cool!
  13. Excuse my ignorance but whats so cool about the frame?
  14. Awesome clip! The sound track is a bit hectic though! keep up the great work mate!
  15. Subsribed! I would be keen!
  16. Free water!! Ask for a lemon and ice! enjoy ure flight!
  17. I called them on Friday - they dont sell them. They directed me to another compay - that doesnt do them either!! Popped into the iStore today - they havent heard of anything like that... If anyone finds a retailer that does - please let us know...
  18. Non UST tyres (WTB Weirwolf) + non UST wheels (WTB Speed Disc) + Stans kit = zero punctures! Tons of thorns and odds and ends - pull them out and spin the wheel - seals like a dream! Almost 400kms so far without issues (Groenies, Teak, Spruit)... Sidewall damage - none - considering some of the rocky terrain, and the amount of sidewall scratches, slips, etc (lets hope it stays that way)... For the price difference - I dont see a reason for a heavier UST wheel... Maybe at some super competitive level - UST tyres might be required...
  19. Have you had a look at the Silverback offerings? SB Alpine / Phoenix - around that price range with decent components... Also - if your heart is set on a Scott - call Cajees in Boksburg and speak to Arief. Maybe he can work out a sweet deal - based on ure existing quotes.. Always worth a try...
  20. Sounds hectic!! Do some reading up on Jack3d too. Been using it for about 6 months now - and it works like a dream... harder, faster, longer...
  21. 2.07kgs?!?!?!?!? damn!!!
  22. Point is - if you looking for a good price... Shop around... I shop between CWC, Buycycle, Cajees (Boksburg), Solomons (Woodmead) and Westdene Cycles... so thats 3 quick calls and 2 website visits... Solomons has been cheaper on a few items - but more expensive on others...
  23. was ure bike insured? report it to them and see if they are willing to get their money back - thats hoping you were insured and got paid out...
  24. Teak isnt too bad either... But you gotta get up View Point 1st...
