  1. Are you running your chain with a chain link? I had a similar problem, felt like I was slipping gears, looked at my chain wear (fine), put on a new cassette and same problem. Discovered a short while later that the chain lnk I was running was for a 9 speed chain, instead of running a narrower 10 speed link! Small problem, could have been descovered earlier and saved me some money
  2. Thank you all hubbers for your advice. Looks like I am going to go the pedals and training wheels off route. They have both been riding their smaller bikes and know the pedalling motion pretty well, now just to work ont he balance. SO looking forward to getting them riding on their own properly, cant wait
  3. Ha Ha, now I can get some off the bike training at the same time
  4. Now that is EXACTLY what I was thinking of doing, the exact thing that I have read about and seen. So it worked for you and your kids? That is excellent, I am soo excited for them and I will have a couple more riding partners Might need some rope to attach them to Daddy's bike though
  5. Your grandson is soo cute. I am really excited at the prospect of getting them riding on their own. they both absolutely love cycling, come down to all the starts of the PPA events and look at all the cyclists. The interest is there, now to just get it right. I am going to try my older daughterm on this method i have been watching on Youtube. Taking the pedals off, getting her to master running the bike along and lifting her feet off the ground, working on her balance. Seems to work a charm. As for my little son, trainign wheels are going to stay on and I will lift them slightly on a weekly babsis, so that he doesnt get reliant on them for support.
  6. Evening Fellow Hubbers, So, every morning I get back from my ride I get asked the question by my kids, "Daddy, did you go riding with Andy Schleck this morning?", to which I reply, sorry kids, not this time So, Mommy and Daddy Clause have decided that it is about time to get our kids on Bikes PROPER SOOO, Dad went off, bought my little guy a 12' (he's nearly 3) and my daughter a 16' with V-Brakes, little Raleigh (She is nearly 5). I have been doing a bit of reading and checking out how to get these little guys on the road and riding without training wheels ASAP (taking off the pedals and getting them to balance, stopping themselves from falling with their feet). Just wanting to know, how did you get your kiddies riding? Any tips and suggestions??? Watch out all other hubbers little ones, the next Andy / female equivalent is coming from MY house
  7. Thanks to Airbender, MariusL, SirK, Player23 and Lounge Lizard for all your input and advice surrounding the Durbanville area. I have heeded everyones advice and will more than likely look at Hill repeats up and over Malanshoogte as my Saturday Training Rides, shorter distance and I can do a loop through Contermans as well. Would be nice to get a group of riders together maybe once a month to do the 99er Route, feeling safer in numbers Once again, thank you all and hope to meet up with you sometime for a ride.
  8. Also in for the Cobra this year and my climbing speed is shoddy, so going to be doing a lot of hill repeats up Vissers Will see you out there and maybe get together for a ride or two, when I am "stronger"
  9. Thank you SOO much for the advice, really great to hear that I would be OK out there on my own. I enjoy my group rides, but really enjoy my solitary rides as well, can go at my own pace, reflect, get rid of my own frustrations without thinking about slowing a group down / leaving people behind. Might see you out there one day, keep well and thanks again.
  10. Thanks Player23, will get in touch with this forum closer to the time and organise a bunch if possible, safety in numbers I will be coming over from Edgemead anyway, so have Tiekie to contend with by the time I get to Durbanville. Plus, my climbing is TERRIBLE, so no worries about me leaving anyone behind, it will more than likely be the other way around
  11. Hi there Sir K, I am supposed to be doing the Argus Training ride with yourselves and Wannabe, but I am really usure of whether I will keep up with you all. Knowing your times for Die Burger, you were all in the 3hr area and if I had not punctured, i would only have gotten round in about 3:40. So VERY nervous of joining you on the ride. Maybe in the beginning of Jan, when I have done LOTS of climbing!!
  12. Hi there Durbanville Area Roadies. I am hoping that you may be able to help me out with a bit of advice. I am looking at training the 99er route at least once a week from now till the Argus, I am just a tad worried about riding it out there on my own, especially around the Fisantekraal area and also the Paardeberg Area. Has anyone experianced any problems out there?? Thanks in advance for yoru input.
  13. I am in exactly the same boat, I am dreading even looking at Hels with cold legs on Sunday That being said, I cannot forsee the first 7km going very well for me as it takes me a good 30min to get warm and into a "good zone"
  14. Thanks C, Now my Carbon baby is going to have a decent rider in her saddle soon. No more hanging my head when the Alu's come flying past
  15. I am looking forward to kicking htis habit. Know that my body is going to be in for a shock, but that is just my bodys way of getting rid of the poison I have been feeding into it for soo many years As of an hour ago, I am NO LONGER A SMOKER  I am NOT putting poison back into my body!! Thank to ALL for all the great advice and heres to actually been able to breath properly again, make it up those hills without getting my HR into the high 90%'s, enjoying my family and kids again, not being tired all the time and just enjoying being free of that terrible smell!!!!
  16. Thanks Mampara. That really helps a lot. Not having to stop for top up of water should save me that extra 1 min Would that be sufficient hydration though?
  17. I have now read the entire thread on 32gi and I am still soo confused. Specifically, I am confused about the Dosage and the sustained energy for 2 hours?? For example, I am doing Die Burger next weekend, 98km, probably going to be VERY hot and quite a taxing ride. I aim to do this in 3:10. Would I then ride with one bottle of 32GI and 1 Water? or 2 32GI and have a quick water stop to fill bottle at the 60odd km mark?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated..
  18. Have also done a fair amount more investigation. The Shifters need a defferent amount of tension in order to change the RD, so that would need to be changed, otherwise, you can still run the Cassette and FD and the Crank. Seems a bit pointless though, might as well do a full SRam Red upgrade ans sell off my Ultegra SL's
  19. Just a quick question folks, I really like to look of the Sram Shifters but am running 2009 Ultegra SL all round at the moment. Just wanting to know whether to Sram shifters are going to be compatible with my groupset, would the double tap system still function? Would it have a negative influence on my shifting? Any guidance would be sincerely appreciated.
  20. Hi there. Moving to Edgemead at the beginning of November. Another guy already living there also looking for early morning "motivation". It is the intention to do Tiekie Draai 3 mornings a week. Average 27 - 30km/h. Tiekie at about 20 - 22km/h. PM me and we can chat about getting you hooked up with my mate in the interim, and I will join you guys in 2 weeks
  21. Likewise, seems to get a lot of "bend" when cranking it on the trainer!
  22. WTF! I dont know whether to be Angry or Cry. I am apalled!
