  1. You shouldn't really penalise the drop-kick too much - he's already branded himself a moron for life with his facial...
  2. What a clown. Is there any real surprise he's a doper? You'd have to be waaay gone to let someone do that to you
  3. That's *not* funny
  4. Couple of days ago was out riding and had to navigate past a chap painting road markings (with a paint brush, nogal) and to cut a long story short had to go over his handiwork. I presume several motor vehicles had done likewise as there was there were these weird white lined smears immediately adjacent to the road markings looking like albino skid marks... Anyhoo, I got paint on my tyres and thought little of it. Last night when I cleaned my bike I noticed there was some paint sprayed on the back and bottom of my frame. Anyone experienced this before? Is there anything I *shouldn't use* to remove the specks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Does this mean we can expect a drop in prices of 2011 models in the near future...
  6. Nah, it'll never happen...
  7. I see during the recent/current riots a bicycle was thrown through a shop window. I didn't consider that the cyclist may still have been attached...
  8. Two daughters - both born before I started cycling...
  9. Massive boost for SA cycling Johannesburg - South African cycling will soon benefit from the first wooden indoor cycling track after the International Cycling Union (UCI) signed a memorandum of understanding with the North-West University (NWU) on Thursday. The velodrome will be built on the Fanie du Toit sports grounds on the NWU's Potchefstroom campus. It was further announced at a media briefing in Johannesburg that undertakings had been made in conjunction with Cycling South Africa (CSA) to build a BMX Supercross cycling track at the same venue. It will be both an Africa World Cycling Centre (ACCC) and an internationally accredited A-grade track. The multi-million rand facility would be the first on the African continent and could see the North-West town host an international track cycling circuit. Director of the International Cycling Union's World Cycling Centre Frédéric Magne and NWU vice-chancellor Theuns Eloff signed the memorandum of understanding. Magn said it was the first time that the UCI has signed such a memorandum with a private entity. "The UCI is very dedicated to this project and hopefully in a few months we will see the opening of the velodrome," said Magn. "It will be the place if you want to do indoor cycling on the African continent." Both cycling tracks will comply with international standards, making it possible to host future national and international cycling competitions such as the South African and African Championships, the World Cup and the World Championships. The velodrome will consist of an indoor 250-metre wooden-surface cycling track with a sunken infield where other indoor sports such as netball, basketball, volleyball, fencing and weightlifting could be hosted. The first phase construction which would account for the indoor facilities would cost an estimated R75 million. The National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund granted the NWU R15 million in support of the project. The land the facilities will be built on is owned by the university and is worth approximately R12-million. The rest of the money for the first phase will, according to Eloff, come from naming rights which they would sell for R40-million. Eloff said the signing of the memorandum would now give the project some much needed momentum. "We first have to go through formal process and we need to secure sponsors for the naming rights," said Eloff. "I think we can start building by the end of this year and we would like to see the first events by early next year." He said they had already ordered the Siberian wood from Russia. The actual track would be built by master builder from Germany and Switzerland. The velodrome will not only be used as a practice and competition facility but will also be used for training and research by the NWU. This development will take place under the banner of the NWU PUK Cycling Academy in cooperation with the ACCC. Former Olympic cyclist Jean-Pierre van Zyl who manages the ACCC said the new facilities would create cycling champions and more medals at Olympic Games. "By 2016 we will win medals and introduce cycling to the rest of the continent," said Van Zyl.
  10. I only do 100-120km races. I get set packing with a peanut butter sandwich on low GI bread. Works for me but the wife is also a dietician so that helps... She now has offices on top of Cycle Lab Fourways. PM me if you want details. If you're serious you can't beat professional help and I don't think she charges much because I still have a rather strict limit when it comes to cycling purchases...
  11. Runaways Tribute by DC Heroines... Wonder Woman (as Joan Jett): Black Canary (as Cherie Currie): Zatanna (as one of The Runaways many bassists): Batgirl (as Sandy West):
  12. Fabio Casartelli (16 August 1970 – 18 July 1995) was an Italian cyclist and an Olympic gold medalist who died in a crash on the descent of the Col de Portet d'Aspet, France, during the 15th stage of the 1995 Tour de France.
  13. Is Hobart Grove the new Spar centre off Grosvenor?
  14. At 04h30 this morning it was rather fresh, cycling through Bryanston into Randberg and a rather fierce head wind. Must have been pushing 0^C... Needless to say I didn't feel compelled to use my water bottle
  15. R.I.P. fellow cyclists
  16. Sorry, been incommunicado... Positions have not been filled - they sell labels, forms, stickers etc.
  17. Yip, pair of socks, then sandwich bags, then another pair of socks, then shoes, then toe-warmers... A bit woosie but at least I didn't lose feeling in three of my toes like last time
  18. Brother-in-law is looking to appoint someone for a job in sales. It will consist of a basic salary, car allowance and commissions. He is also looking for someone in an office based sales role for anyone who doesn’t want to be on the road. Here again there will again be a basic salary and commission. Office is in Lonehill, JHB.
  19. Ride harder? Have a bath rather than a shower (showers wake me up; baths get me sleepy ) Seriously thinking about riding in the evening - if I could find a safe road Mornings are currently uncomfortably cold. Have to invest in some booties (toe-warmers not cutting it). Any Hubbers got any novel ways of keeping their feet warm?
  20. That's a normal daily routine for Capetonians, is it not?
  21. Caerus, they look the bomb but then again they should at $120 USD Is there a local distributor and, if so, are they more sensitive to the meagre rand earnings of a devoted cyclist
  22. If I had them I'd wear them *with* the beanie! Beanie worked like a bomb. Now need something similar for my toes (toe-warmers fought a good fight but in the end the sub-zero temperature was just too much) and need added protection for my fingers and knees (esp. the back). Hopefully it won't get much colder but at the end of the ride the electronic billboard on the cnr of Sandton and William Nichol was reading -1 and this after we had been riding for well over an hour...chilly
  23. Eish, 10 o'clock - goodnight all I have a date with frostbite at 04h30...
  24. Boet, it ain't balmy Durbs... At 04h30 in Jo'burg at this time of the year nothing is hot - beanie or not!
