  1. Count me and the missus in. If I do the offroad thing, is the track good enough to have my son on the back of my MTB?
  2. It's time that I put my leg over the saddle and started training again. Is anyone interested in joining for a slow easy ride..maybe 40km or so. I will probably be riding Saturday morning at about 6:00 in the Pta (North) area.
  3. Ha everyone lost interest in this ride? There seems to be no more suggestions for dates
  4. Not all deaths can be attributed to the knock on the head in the event of an accident. I agree that a helmet does reduce the risk substantially, but there are many other factors involved. Unfortunately we never hear what the actual cause of death was when a cyclist gets killed....Was his neck broken? Were there puncture wounds? etc etc...Sometimes more internal damage is done than externally and is not visible to the eye at the crash scene. So it always easy to say " a cyclist was wearing a cheap helmet and that was the cause of death" There are real nasty cheapies on sale at our local chain stores which do not conform to international standards, and some people will take a chance with them. The quality of the inner and outer shell is really poor and could break if you look too hard at it. Personally I would go for something more expensive that has undergone extensive testing and are made of better quality materials. A high price helmet might only get you something flashy, a better fit, more ventilation holes etc etc, but at least I will feel comfortable in it. Everybody has a budget and can only afford certain equipment. It's your choice what you want to pay, but at least make sure it conforms to either ANSI or Schnell standards as a minimum requirement when purchasing a helmet.
  5. I wonder what is going to happen when registering for a race? Licences were valid till end January and we are now into February!!!!
  6. My brother has been shopping at Bridge for more than 20years. He knows all the salesmen, and even he is not getting discounts by them anymore. It just shows how tough times are.
  7. JPW in times like this it rare that you will get discounts at shops. I think the only time you are going to get a "dicount" is if the shop inflates their prices and then advertises a "discount" on items. Rather get prices at different shops, then take the highest and lowest price and buy at the cheapest place and convince yourself that they gave you a discount
  8. Great stuff Now his mechanic must just remeber to put a new chain on his bike so that it does not snap in tomorrow's sprint I think you might be confusing Cav with the another Brit. The bike throwing mr Millar if I'm not mistaken? Sorry my bad. But a Brit is a brit and I don't like them either way
  9. Great stuff Now his mechanic must just remeber to put a new chain on his bike so that it does not snap in tomorrow's sprint
  10. Interesting... And when it is South African owned will the price drop in SA or will CRC still be cheaper then buying locally?
  11. Depens on your age etc. When I stayed in Cape Town I had no hassles with a 53/39 on the front and 11/21 on the rear. Now that I've got a bit more sense I ride with an 11/23
  12. Hi Evo_R, welcome to the HUB Firstly, it is a chainring or commonly known as a blade and not a chainwheel Secondly it is a cassette and not a free wheel. A 50/34 is a compact crank and is used more for hilly rides ie mountains....usually used by people that are not good climbers. The same goes for an 12/25. It is a lower ratio, therefore easier for climbing
  13. moenie worry nie Oom H' date=' dit moet 'n moerse klip wees wat jou gaan crush! [/quote'] ............ ek worry meer oor die Tandem boet!!!!!!!! Said like a true cyclist...And I'm sure you didn't think twice before saying that Does EM's priorities sentiment yours?
  14. Don't date your sister....if you not from the Eastrand
  15. If all goes well the missus and I should be there on our tandem along with our entourage. We are planning on doing the 70km route. The last time we stayed there we slept over in tents at the cloud's End hotel. The weather wasn't too cold, but the rain put a damper on things. We hoping to stay at highschool this year. That way we won't have kart half the garage with
  16. Nancy You guys are really sharp today. Naas just phoned and said he would forward my CV further up the chain. Thanks for the help
  17. Thanks HR I'm sure things will come right. Sometimes a person needs a wake up call to come back to reality and realise that bad things can hapen to everyone. At least I will be able to relook my position and make any necessary changes in my life.
  18. My brother is working over in Oz at the moment and he says all the foreigners on the work visa scheme are being layed off at the moment...not a good time now to go over. Besides, my wife will never leave SA and I'm not too keen either.
  19. To all you ignorant and apathetic @ssholes.... If you have a death wish then go ahead with your antics in your blissfully ignorant world. We are more concerned with the young people that you are supposed to be teaching and showing the correct way of doing things. The next time you want to tell someone to ****for enquiring about your (and the people with you) level of safety awareness, then first think about the danger you are putting them in by letting them ride without a helmet. As for the seatbelt issue, I find great fun to tune the coppers in the metro vehicle next to me at the robot because they don't wear their seatbelt....I love the expression on their face when they realise they can't do anything to me because they know they are wrong.
  20. Today all the EPCM staff at my work (+-140 people) were called to an urgent meeting. Upon arrival we noticed that no snacks, coffe/tea or anything was served.......this usually means BAD NEWS!!!! As true-as-bob...we were informed that the main client informed us this morning that 50% of the EPCM division had to be retrenched by the 27th of this month. Unfortunately I fall in the 50% that must go. I am at my present employer for just over 6 months, which means that I will only have 2 weeks notice Two months after starting, there was already talks of financial difficulties on the project and that people might lose their jobs. So it has merely been a waiting game since end October last year to see when it would become a reality. At least I can be glad it did not happen over Christmas/New Year. If anybody has an odd job around the house please let me know....Salary is highly negotiable
  21. Sorry to hear chucky. I hope you get through this quickly and with minimal discomfort. At least you lucky you only need non invasive treatment. I don't think we could handle 2x "One Nuts" Does your doctor think this could be cycling related or not?
  22. Sorry Turtlek That is what I was told by my LBS. I also had an 8spd a few years ago which I upgraded to 9spd. When I went 10spd my LBS said I had to change bodies. In the end I just bought new wheels, so I never really did the whole 8 to 9 to10spd conversion. It just goes to show how unscrupulous the LBS' are. They would rather sell a new body instead of a spacer
  23. I would go with hte first pic. Make the red lines Thicker towards the headtube and make the whole headtube red. It should look awesome
