  1. Just because a bike is built in the East does not mean that it is inferior in quality in any away from any other bike that is build in the USA , Italy or wherever else in the world. Although a bike is built in the East the design and quality control is governed by the manufacturer. It is purely from a financial perspective that most manufacturers choose to have their bikes built in the East, thereby enabling them to sell their products cheaper than their competitors in Western and European countries. By the way I ride an Eddymerckx, and have a great ride on it. For my type of riding I don't need a frame that costs an extra 15K for a more "comfortable" ride. I would probably not even know the difference if I was riding a merckx or trek with a blindfold on. If I ever buy another bike I will definitely be buying another MerckxSpeed Devil2008-06-20 06:59:05

  5. You can't want to buy a Masseratti and expect to pay the price of parts for a Mazda Speed Devil2008-06-18 02:54:33
  6. Quick Hijack... Is there a problem with Speciliazed's website? I have been trying for a few days to get in but when I click on the "Specialized link" on their homepage it says "done, but with errors" in the bottom left corner of the screen
  7. Sammajoor If the cells were completely dry then they would need to be filled up with battery acid which could be bought at any local motor spares shop and then charged for a while. If the cells were still above half then you can just top them up with distilled water which is also available from any motor spares shop and then charge it. People have the impression if you boil water in the kettle then it will be distilled, but actually when water boils and steam is released, the condensation formed when the steam cools is distilled (pure) and the bulk of the water that remains behind (with which you make tea and coffee) contains all the minerals, metals and other impurities. Minerals and metal particles do not evaporate or reduces with boiling. When water is boiled and steam is released, the amount of water reduces, which means you will actually a have higher volume of impurities in the water. So never use boiled water for filling batteries, as it is the quickest way to shorten the life span. Oh, and dont let your wife use it in her iron either as scale will build up a lot quicker too I hope it makes sense.
  8. Its not leg length that's important; top tube length is by far the most important variable when fitting a bike. I'm still amazed by the no. of SA bike shops that "fit" riders by stand over height. Tope tube length can be sorted out by using different length stems, hanlebars with different reaches and seatposts with different setback. Saddles also come in different legths which also help with the amount of forward and backward adjustment. There is no frame on the market that will suit a person 100% even if you buy according to top tube length.
  9. I wonder who is taking lessons by who?...Deon Maas by Mr Cliff or otherway around? Either way they should both be banned from any type of media reporting.

  13. To make things as simple as possible...keep the rear brake and derailleur on the right and the front brake and derailleur on the left and then just remember....Right= Rear When cabling your front brake, the flow of the cable from the brake lever onto the caliper is a lot smoother if you use the right lever for the front brake. Which also means less resistance inside the cable housing when braking.Speed Devil2008-05-16 03:48:53
  14. JB, I have been riding DA for most of my life. I heard that Ultegra chains and clusters are harder wearing and therefore last longer than DA. So when I bought my Racing wheels last year I put the DA cluster on my racing wheels and an Ultegra on the training set seeing as I do way more kms on the traingwheels and when the time came for replacing the chain I put an Ultegra on. Price is usually not an issue when replacing components (Ultegra vs DA) by me, I'm just looking for something that will give me good service for the money. What is your opinion on this?

  17. I want try the tubeless conversion on my road bike too...Just 1 question: When the tyres are worn have to be replaced, how much of a mess is it when the tyre is removed and how difficult is it to clean the rim up for the new tyre?
