  1. "Waiting for it to get harder" Was asked this about it this week; would be the equivalent of achieving space travel in my Honda. & like the previous guy said, anything you say sounds a bit lame.
  2. You go that way and you run into Nancy Drew @ Bombela.I was more thinking the directions dont make sense starting at London Rd.
  3. Sounds great, but you dont want to be taking the London Road offramp.
  4. Rosemary Hill is a winner? Nice to see good things hapening to good people.
  5. Great!...... but, errr...umm......where is it?
  6. A green muamba
  7. Couple of reactions: Special dietary needs = legitimate enquiry; OB Laden = not a good name to promote the muslim point of view from; "I fit in, why cant they" - errr mostly "they" do, only you cant see it because ummm..... they're fitting in. Lots of people are making accommodations everyday to this (male)WASP-run society.
  8. They'll be coming round the mountain when they come.
  9. I'm interested that you're seeded A and are talking about a funrider-type-move mid-race. A is pretty damn aggressive in smaller races let alone the Argus. You must have plenty of race experience already and would know what an A bunch is going to put up with?

And, lo, it is written: whenever two or three are gathered together in cycling's name...... ......so shall they ride two or three abreast.
  11. + lots Also, its not a "live" law and can't be enforced.
  12. I went off in E and had a good race. Just made me laugh that a stray water bottle on the road was treated like some kind of Al Quaeda device & always caused a commotion. I ran over one, but it didnt go off.
  13. It is a great event, fast but with a bit more to deal with than Emperors. Mervyn Abel has been the guy behind this race for years, co-ordinating the Germiston Wheelers effort; cajoling sponsors (I know, we're one of them) etc etc. The club riders arent allowed to ride the race but are expected to help on the day marshalling and the day before - marking potholes, sweeping intersections. Well done Merv and the Wheelers.
  14. "Poor racing guys"? How about poor guys on their regular training rides being swamped by racing hooligans? I'm sure if they wanted to race they would have done.
  15. Hahaha I think you were with me at the Kremetart two/three years back when the ladies and their circus caught our bunch of over 40s then sat in and amongst us and drank tea for 10kms. I got alongside the front of them and pointed out they were being beaten by a old fat man, which raised a mixture of smirks and eyes-forward fixed frowns. Then a slope appeared & they took off like Road Runner to our Wylie Coyotes.
  16. When I started cycling 8 years ago i was a vegetarian and as i got a better i gave it up, feeling the need for protein and not being so keen on dairy. You can do it on beans and lentils but I guess you'll look for protein powder and other supplements to help. Iron is another thing to watch for as you can get it from green leafy veg but its not in the same quantities and doesnt absorb as well as from meat. Eggs and dairy is the way to go but its still animal product.
  17. Nice one Brian.
  18. I got issues about men drafting women. Mostly that those women are usually too slightly built to provide much of a barrier to the wind.
  19. Got a late entry and started in I. Loads of fun & plenty of people to play with, its re-sparked my enthusiasm for these races. Funny that at the same time as having many "water-bottle presenters", you've also got a lot of folk going no-hands and others with mp3s. Was a bit eventful in the first 10kms, I think they let G,H and I start together as they were running late. Lots of creative manouveres amongst the mtbs, furry rabbits on helmets and honky horns. It was great though, loads of folk having a go, great weather not much wind and a good start/finish venue. Good organization I reckon; but when a policewoman holds up her hand to stop traffic and a line of at least 6 vehicles fly by, you just gotta know that EastRand Neanderthals get up early on a Sunday.
  20. It seems he got to the girl through cycling connections. Its not like saying because he's a cyclist he's a perv; though i'm sure many are (present company excepted ).
  21. Very cool post - and was surprised to see you're that young. I've seen a few of your others and you make more sense than most.
  22. Brilliant pisstake. Also loved "could've been a contender" - Taxi Driver? The Champ? And 5% body fat - now thats anorexic.
  23. Hahahaha who are all these "other cheap people" getting fit to do running races to save money! Really funny and insulting. On the question of numbers, its a LOT easier to do a road race and feel good about yourself than it is a mountain bike race; esp for the over 40s. Thats why more of us do it. I've done 60-70 road races around the country only now am i half-thinking of doing a mtb event. The standing around at bottlenecks is a huge turn-off.
  24. +100, Thug knows about these things. Quite amusing to see the assumption that because he's from Gauteng he doesnt know about hills.
  25. +1 Those who can, do - those who can't, Hub. (nope I can't much, just a bit)
