  1. Gerkie was on a white Java. Myself and Pieter1, and Dirt Rider ride white Inbreds. Mine has a suspension fork though.
  2. And well done Pieter for finishing with that rigid fork! You must be broken!
  3. Awesome ride again guys. I clocked exactly the same ave speed as last year on the same bike running the same 32-19, so I can't complain about my time. Sub 5:30 was my goal and I got in at 5:25. Between 45 & 55km I was in a dark place, pretty much hit the wall, legs were pap. Stopped and squeezed a Roctane GU in my face and wowzers, 5 min later I was flying. Finished way fresher than last year and enjoyed the beers and burger with the okes at the end. I'll be back next year for my sub-5. (maybe with some gears....)
  4. One more sleep okes! Who are my single-speed buddies tomorrow?
  5. Lifeboy from Tembisa with the bike we gave him today. No more expensive public transport or very long walks for this young man!
  6. In the mean time, make sure your chain and cassette are fresh and replace the cables. This should give you an immediate improvement in shifting for very little money.
  7. Last year was 5:21 for me. I'm hoping for sub 5:30 this year even with the longer route. Time (and legs) will tell. I'll be riding an easier gear and hoping it gains me time on the climbs and doesn't penalise me too much on the flatter parts.
  8. Thanks Wayne, much appreciated! More info to follow soon!
  9. Weather for Saturday looks good, light wind and min 7degC max 22degC, mostly sunny
  10. Thanks to Jon Hoehler for donating an awesome GT mountain bike to us yesterday!
  11. I'll bring the Jager......
  12. If you're keen to ride for our charity in this year's Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge please enter and pay asap. We are a couple of people short to secure our charity entry and it would be a huge shame to lose this great opportunity. Contact me if you need more info. Thanks!
  13. Built up and ready for donation. Someone's life will change this week!
  14. After riding Sani I'll either smash this race or I'll die at 15km.......
  15. My day 3 highlight was the food at the WP's. WP1 had the best potatoes of the race and amazing bacon and sausages. WP2 had such awesome fried chicken strips with mayo dip.
  16. 10km in to the day 1 stage, my partner's crank arm bolt fell out and the crank arm kept falling off. We had to MacGuyver the hell outta the crank with cable ties, a spare cog and a crank bolt tool. The solution lasted 15km before the cable ties started breaking and we had to redo it. At the final waterpoint, we met his wife and his tool box which contained a QR and a couple of headset caps. This provided us with the permanent fix. What an adventure!
  17. On my SS I need long gradual uphill drags. Flat is NOT my friend.
  18. I did the Trail
  19. We did a 7:14 on day 2 and also got a false DNF. The MC even read out our names as we finished. I have emailed spectrumsport as well as the race organisers. I'll let you know what happens when they reply.
  20. I did Sani2c SS. 32 up front. 17, 19, 18 at the rear on days 1, 2, 3
  21. Myself and partner did the Trail on our single speeds, what a blast! It's really depressing being home in Jozi already!
  22. Levers and calipers are definitely available separately for Shimano brakes. Yes, even locally. I have the Deore 615's and they are amazing, cheap, powerful, reliable, quiet, easy to bleed, pads are cheap. I run 180mm rotors and I can lock either wheel at will, at any speed, but with huge amounts of modulation. And for less than R1500 for the set you can't go wrong.
  23. It's going to be a mission. Rather get a CX frame. Cotic have a nice one.
