  1. Jones XTR all the way man!
  2. The label says 8 bar pressure, not 18 bar! #justtakingthepiss
  3. Same robot, same issue - light turns red for car. Driver looks and sees me already in the intersection on my green light. Driver pulls out anyways. Didn't have anything in hand to throw except some expletives. Again.
  4. I use a hammer and a block of wood. Doesn't mean that you should though. I place the headset cups in the freezer for 5 min before the job so they contract and slide in easier. I also grease the inside of the head tube.
  5. I rode 32x18 and 19 in the Cape in December. All good. 29er, steel, suspension fork, 12,5kg. I did the Garden route trailseries race (58km, 1950m ascent) on 32x18. Ok, it did hurt a bit, a 19T woulda been better.
  6. My one mate has broken about 5 chains in the 2 years he's been riding. reason: he shifts under power. The outer link plate get's pulled off the pin and SNAP. I believe that most chain breakages happen this way. Since he has started riding single speed, no more chain issues. Moral of the story, most chain issues are rider-caused. Picture an opened-up link plate, passing over the chainring and getting wedged in the jockey-wheel. Crunch.
  7. It actually takes a 27,2mm post. It takes a 27,2mm post. Let me know if you don't come right. I also have one going for a 6-pack
  8. I had some and they lasted about 2 months. The rubber is nice and soft but wears out quickly.
  9. Dude, what are you in need of to get this thing built?
  10. I'm in again on the SS. I reckon 18T is the perfect ratio. Maybe 17T if I'm feeling strong......
  11. haha, my BB is red too, you just can't see it! What fork and wheels are you gonna use? BTW - Nice bike! You're gonna love every minute of riding it. Super comfy, super responsive, super fun.
  12. Nice, but the colour scheme seems familiar...... Here's mine, you plagiarist!
  13. I'll sell you a 1x chainring and clutch derailleur for half of what you mention. Just cos I am a nice guy..... I'll even install it for you.
  14. It's happened to me at least 3 times in the last few months and I do anticipate it (hence I am still breathing), but it still makes me fume. I am sure these drivers will think twice before jumping a red light after having to replace some automotive glass.......
  15. Fixed. Cassette, derailleurs, cables, shifters and chainrings removed should save about 500-1200g. Replace squishy fork with a rigid carbon one and save another kg.
  16. I learned today to have a (frozen) water bottle in my throwing hand at a certain intersection on my route to work. I swear that if another car runs the light after it's green for ME, he/she will get a 500g ice block through his/her windscreen.
  17. My Park Tools workstand. http://www.rushsportscycling.com/uploads/b2c4a6f377ff4e4ebdb6fcb291fa4aab-28112011-131536.jpg
  18. If one can afford it, build the bike piece by piece. Then you don't have to change anything. Pick each part carefully for the best combination of price/performance/weight/reliability and sexiness.
  19. remove chain, clean bike, clean chain, lube, replace, ride
  20. Go to your LBS and ask for a thin spacer.
  21. Strip, polish, apply decals and simply wax the frame. Clear coat not necessary. For now, use the old derailleur as a tensioner, use the current chain as well. Us the small ring (is it a 39T?) with a 16T cog. It's a lekker all-round ratio. Remove the big ring and use some washers behind the chainring bolts. Get a proper cog and spacer kit from rapide.co.za - a tensioner too if you don't wanna use the derailleur.
  22. nice build! i put about 1000km on that fork on my old DiamondBack SS before I sold it to JC. It's lekker! I found the ride quite compliant and the front wheel very light so negotiating obstacles was a cinch.
  23. Thanks for the offer! PM sent
  24. I know I'm a bit late joining this convo, but riding the spruit on Sunday I was all stoked about taking the (removed) jump, lined up well, had good speed, then ..... nothing. I almost cried.
