  1. I use the 3/32 size (6/7/8 speed) KMC chains that come with the quick-link thingies (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25433) and the Blackspire Monoveloce Chainrings. I have ridden my 'ring for over 3000km already and NO signs of wear.
  2. I didn't enjoy Hakahana last year. The concrete (up and down) really killed it for me.
  3. Hi all, I need a 26er fork, mtb crankset and 27,2mm seatpost to get another bike ready for donation. Can anyone assist?
  4. Ask for 4x derailleur hanger bolts from your LBS, or use some washers on the inside of the chainring. Or file/grind down some longer bolts (the female side) Or I think KCNC makes short ones that you can buy at your LBS - Shimano also makes some, I think some Dura-Ace bolts work.
  5. I decided at the beginning of this year to forego the mass-market races in lieu of "proper" mtb events like the Magalies Monster. Last year I did all the Trailseeker races and was mostly disappointed with the lack of interesting, challenging terrain - although the race at VG was awesome. Now that I have experienced the Monster I want more! What other 1-day races in and around Gauteng would you consider "proper mountain biking"? Unfortunately I can't make the Thaba Toughee this weekend....
  6. It's like riding SS vs Geared. You get to choose! Use whatever you like. Personally I love my SPD's and can get my feet unclipped instinctively. They connect me to my bike and make riding technical sections easier. As an individual, you'll get used to and learn to love whatever equipment you use, and make it work for you. There's no wrong answer.
  7. Stay off the brakes, they'll only slow you down!
  8. I want one of these: http://on-one.co.uk/imgs/products/900x650_constWH/CBOOFATX5_P1.jpg
  9. We can always blame the ANC....
  10. I got the Slant. It fits and it's pretty comfy, better than my old Giro Indicator, but that isn't saying much.
  11. Ping Swift01, he has a new Highball frame he just built up....
  12. If you struggle to seat the tyres, install them with a tube and pump up so they seat and leave them like that for 30minutes. Then remove the tube and try to seat them with no tube. Spray the bead area with soapy water to help lubricate the bead. You'll also see bubbles if there is a leaky area. Once seated nicely, deflate, crack a small part of the bead, add sealant and re-inflate.
  13. If anyone has any MTB parts, frames or forks and are willing to donate, please contact me. Thanks again to all who have contributed. A special thanks to Ruan, Andre and the guys at Tool-Up Cycles for always helping out when I need something.
  14. Just donated a couple of bikes. Visit the website here for more info on what we've been up to this year. http://www.buildabikesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/samson-300x225.jpg http://www.buildabikesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/DSC_2488-216x300.jpg http://www.buildabikesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/whyteone-2-225x300.jpg http://www.buildabikesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/lovemore-NRS-300x198.jpg
  15. I often encounter these wrong-side-of-the-road-riders and I just keep left so that they have to face the uncomfortable side of the traffic....fortunately I've not had any incidents....
  16. I would say yes, as long as they are proper high res ones and you're happy with the pics.
  17. With skills like that it's a good thing he wasn't at the Monster.....
  18. ActionPhoto Pics should be up by Wednesday, I hope sooner!
  19. My Strava says 1573m
  20. If that's not a good reason to ride, I don't know what is!
  21. Man-flu....
  22. I like what you did there!
  23. Speaking of beer, the Castle Light after the race was my first beer in 3 weeks and it was BLISS!
