  1. I have a 2008/2009 Rockshox Reba world cup fork with the ugly v-brake mounts on it which aren't used because I have disc brakes. Is there a way to remove them? It's purely a cosmetic thing as I'd also like to repaint the lowers (they are a bit scratched) and make the fork look nicer. I'm tempted to take a saw and just cut them off.
  2. I like this one, it's classic and stylish http://makingpictureframes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/a-brown-picture-frame-250x300.jpg just kidding, but please do provide more info for us to answer your question.
  3. Maybe I'm just too up to date by browsing cycling websites, but the last few issues of the cycling magazines I subscribe to have been uninteresting for me. And if I have to name names, Bicycling SA and Tread Mag (less uninteresting than Bicycling). There were one or two useful things in there, but overall a bit disappointing. My curiosity will probably get the better of me and I'll end up buying the magazines anyway. Do you still buy cycling related magazines? Is there a magazine you would recommend?
  4. I still have one from ages ago, but it's battery is flat and it looks like the back is sealed. The Freestyle's battery is also flat... haven't actually worn a watch for a long time, but I'm looking for a nice one with a steel band for more formal occasions. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/JacquesMTB/th_000_0143.jpg http://s1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/JacquesMTB/?action=view&current=000_0143.jpg
  5. I'd say take them off and clean out the sealant. In that time the sealant will probably harden, depending on what sealant you have in.
  6. If it's just the rear wheel (with it's cassette) you're swapping out it should be fine. Can the experts maybe comment on the whole cassette & chain wearing together thing? Will this be an issue?
  7. Yes, and ours (just kidding) Is there a chance to demo one... most bike shops will have a demo bike that you can take out. Would save you all the buying ans selling trouble.
  8. Then you should take it back from where you bought it, should be covered under warranty?
  9. Sounds like it needs a service, including replacing the wiper seals.
  10. Also, what kind of terrain do you intend on riding? Cross-country, trails, downhill?
  11. It seems to be click Not sure if it's available locally, but I'm sure someone here will answer soon enough.
  12. I saw a nice shiny silver singlespeed in the classifieds section this morning, have a look there.
  13. I have a Fourstroke 03 and I'm very happy with it. The suspension is set up firm and its almost like a hard-tail, but without the sting. Pedals without any noticeable bob, climbs well and handles much better than my old hard-tail. The finish and quality on the frame is very good. I think the main reason why we don't see more of these bikes (the FS 01 & 02 anyway) is because they are so expensive.
  14. Are those cyclo-cross bikes? I know they changed the rules recently to allow disc brakes on them.
  15. I saw an ad for this one recently: Easton EC90 XC 29" http://www.eastoncycling.com/en-us/ec90-xc-26-772 1416g
  16. Just a note on the sizing, I normally wear a size 9, but with the Olympics I had to take a size 8. Not sure if others have experienced this as well. Fit them on before buying
  17. Olympic. +-R700. I have a pair and they are pretty tough, but the soles aren't very grippy on rocks if you need to carry your bike. There is also the new probike shoes, similar price, and I think the soles are rubber, so they should have more grip. Also have a look in the classifieds section here on the hub.
  18. a newer design isn't always better. Thanks for the replies, I'll keep the xt ones.
  19. I'd go for the new xt with the ice tech rotors. Only a little bit heavier than xtr, but cheaper too. If money isnt a problem, go for the xtr.
  20. So I bought a 'new' set of wheels and I'm selling my old set. Both have centrelock rotors on them so I have the luxury of deciding which set to keep. The current set is XT (sm-rt78) http://www.bike24.net/images/products/p016376.jpg The new set is sm-rt53 (slx, I think) http://c771741.r41.cf2.rackcdn.com/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/s/h/shimano-sm-rt53-disc-brake-rotor.jpg Which set is better? I'd assume it would be the xt? The important factors for me are both stopping power and cooling. Just looking at the pattern (holes) it looks like they would be pretty close in performance? One thing I did notice is that the slx set can only use resin pads.
  21. You're just upset because you weren't invited! Seriously though, it's a disgrace, there are far better ways to spend the money.
  22. Johan Bornmann from yellow saddle is actually offering a training course this weekend if you are in the JHB area. Might already be fully booked though. Other than that there are plenty of resources on the interwebs showing how to service a fork. e.g. http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/workshop-service-the-seals-on-your-fox-32-fork-25020 Oh, and make sure ALL the air is let out before taking it apart.
