  1. Quite a bit difference in price between the HT and FS. Surely it can't be that much more expensive to make the FS, even with the price of the rear shock factored in? Still want one though
  2. What kind of riding does he want to do? Also have a look in the classifieds here
  3. Oh, and here is the manual for doing the service: http://www.bike-components.de/bedienungsanleitungen/2011/rockshox/forks/rockshocks_technical-manual2007.pdf
  4. Omnico in Cape Town are the agents. Or you could phone Johan at Yellow Saddle, he is knowledgeable when it comes to servicing forks.

Good rims for all mountain / trail riding. Good price too, but it's just the rim, you need to add a hub, spokes and have it put together as well. In terms of weight / strength the Stan's rims go from Crest, Arch and then Flow (lightest to heaviest, weakest to strongest)
  6. Depends on how often you change seat height... you may even consider a dropper type seat post.

  8. I would suggest that you go to one of the local shops here in PE that stocks Scott (Wayne Pheiffer / Coimbra) and see if its comfortable for you.
  9. I prefer using silicone rather than q20 on the fork, it seems safer.
  10. Has anyone played around with Linkage or a similar program? Looks quite interesting.
  11. Hydraulic shifting perhaps? Seems like a more durable idea than electronic shifting on a mtb. There are already prototypes, but they are very expensive. There have also been designs of gearboxes, eliminating the traditional derailer. It could be successful if they get the weight down a bit. Electronic suspension for sure, I think some are already experimenting with it.
  12. Sounds like an interesting setup you are trying to create?
  13. I'm pretty happy with my bmc's suspension system. It looks very similar to Maestro, but with slightly different pivot placement. Here is an image of a bmc frame.

Be safe, get a new one.
  15. So, there has been a lot of discussion lately about the different wheel sizes lately. MBA did a practical comparison and here are their results: http://www.mbaction.com/Main/News/Shootout_Wheel_Wars_29_vs_275_vs_26_5159.aspx My opinion: it's great to have more choice, ride the wheel size that works for you.
  16. Depends on who is riding the bike I've found that a ds bike is faster for me. I can pedal through some bumpy sections where I would have to stand up in the past. The added comfort means I'm less also tired towards the end. The Giant Anthem 29er has some good reviews and is within your price range. If you are willing to wait a little while the Pyga Industries 29er might be worth waiting for.
  17. I found this site which lists the models and prices: http://www.rackandcarry.co.za/BikeRacks.aspx
  18. Many non-finishers on stage 5. The race is taking it's toll on the riders.
  19. I like it. Not sure if I would buy it though. Such customized paint jobs are usually a more difficult sell than the original.
  20. According to the article they operated on a loss the first few years. They are making a profit now, but probably not as much as you think. There are a lot of costs involved, paying the people that help out, etc.
  21. I'd choose the DS. Personal preference for comfort and traction.
  22. I think you are still allowed to ride, but won't get a medal at the end. Stuff happens... unknown route, mechanical issues, falling and hurting yourself, bonking. Maybe you are fit enough for one stage, but a couple in a row will take it's toll. It's a seriously tough race and quite something to just finish it.
  23. I like the look of them, but not sure about the lifespan or long term durability though. Should be a comfy ride I think.
  24. I'm guessing we will see then towards the end of this year or early next year. KHS already has one available. Have a look at http://www.650bpalace.com/ I think they have a list of existing 26" frames that can be used with 650b wheels,
