  1. I'm in for a lid every time. I bumped my noggin and my trusty lid split in half leaving me with a headache and nothing else (although I'm sure I would have failed a concussion test). I'll not ride without it.
  2. Don't worry bud, someone else will marry you I'm sure of it.
  3. Just saw this posted on the classifieds about 5mins ago. Anyone's breasts too big? It'll even tighten a virgin
  4. Puerto Rico is also burning it up. Maybe running from the cops?
  5. No T&C's in writing on this one, I was told to come in for a bit of a "checkup" after around 2-4 weeks of riding. Did this myself as it's not something that I need a bike shop to do for me. The next set of "T&C's" was bring it in for a free service after 1000-1500km, no time limit was mentioned. I still have the receipt, hand written with no written T&C's on it. Just a stamp from the store. I wasn't even looking for a full service, more just a lube and clean after 6 months off the trails. No sourpuss here, just sharing an experience, that's what forums are for.
  6. Dry your eyes and HTFU I kind of like getting what I'm promised when I buy something!
  7. Careful here, the two free services there come with strings attached. I bought a new bike from them and the broke my ankle shortly thereafter. After six months off I took the bike to them for a service(they are quite far from me so it was going to be the only one I cashed in on) and was told that my service was outside the required time frame and I would have to pay full price. When I told them why I had not ridden or been able to come through it was a case of too bad really. So, I paid for my "service" and haven't been back!
  8. So I told my wife of my plan to resurrect my old bike and create my first single speed. Her response was that this was a stupid idea and that if I wanted to ride a single speed I should just ride my geared bike without changing gears! "It's not as if you can ride more than one bike at a time" she said. This is going to take some patience on my part, she eventually got the different wheel size explanation, or said she did, but at least I don't need to explain it any more.
  9. My first MTB was the Merida TFS300 26"er, and to be honest, I'm not sure I would have upgraded after 8,000km if it wasn't for the wheel size, this bike has my first Xterra Triathlon on it, my first Magalies Monster, two 94.7 road rides, two 94.7 MTB Challenges, Walkerville, more than a few Van Gaalens, loads of Breedsnek climbs (both sides) and many other great rides on it. I could be biased purely based on my love affair with MTB being forged on my Merida, but hey, I punished this bike and she kept on giving... For me, the Big Nine is the way to go, if you maintain it properly, this bike will take you very very far...
  10. Just picked this up off News24, anyone have any info? RIP to the cyclist and condolences to family... "Johannesburg - A cyclist died after participating in a mountain bike event in Clarens in the Freestate on Saturday, paramedics said. "Apparently, the cyclist collapsed just 300m from the finish line," ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said. Paramedics stationed at the finish line were called by another cyclist to assist the man. When paramedic assessed the man they found no signs of life. "CPR and advance life support was performed on the man for 55 minutes," Meiring said. Afterwards the man was declared dead. "The cause of the incident is not yet known," he said. - SAPA"
  11. I must say, Craighall to Sunninghill on the Spruit, whilst a lot of fun and an enviable commute route will probably land you up being mugged or even worse. If you're going to commute, the times I imagine you'll be on the route are most probably dubious at best. The sections you want to ride are also quite dangerous to ride on your own, at any time. Personally, I'd not ride most of those sections, at any time of the day, with less than 4-5 people. Could be just me tho, but I used to ride Sunninghill to William Nicol and back daily from 04h45-06h00-ish, sometimes alone, but sadly no more. I've just heard too many stories of people left walking home after falling victim to an affirmative shopping spree...
  12. I have an old 26" bike that has served me well for a long time, anyone have any thoughts on turning it into a SS for things like Spruit rides etc. Should I rather get hold of a 29"er frame?
  13. What are the odds of this guy making it from one end of The Spruit to the other without having the affirmative shoppers falling all over themselves to get their paws on this bike?
  14. It's a watch shop in Bryanston, I'll get the details for you, they're at the office.
  15. I have a Seiko that I need some work done on. It's not as old as your one, but I tried to contact the Seiko agents and never received any response. Please let me know if you manage to get hold of anyone. TY.
  16. yaawwwnnnn, every time I read one of these threads I wonder if there'll be someone who makes some of the usual mandatory comments like, "let them kill themselves" or "you're no better for using a phone/camera in circumstances like that" and all the rest of them roasting and defending the OP and every time I wonder if the OP has every read one of these - Stupid Cyclist/Roadie threads. FFS, if you gonna ask for support when complaining about the behavior of cyclists, I recommend going on to a motoring forum. You could also ride up to the offenders and let them know how you feel :D , but we know that cyclists are never wrong and given the opposing views you're likely to encounter (ie. yours vs. theirs), you're bound to get into a heated exchange. The other day I almost hit a guy on a bike when he skipped a red light while I was on my way to the gym and I considered turning around crapping on him, I even considered that I would tell him I was a cyclist and that I was on his side. But then it occurred to me that I was surely not the first person to let this guy know that skipping a red, even at 05h00 was not a good idea. I'm also sure that he's heard of people getting knocked off theirs bikes and killed or maimed. So I had to question what good my little talking to would do, even if I was a fellow cyclist. I think the problem is not so much the bike one rides, as the pic here clearly shows, but the person on the bike. It could also be these guy's parents for not teaching them properly, the bike shop that sold them the bikes should also have warned them. Perhaps they should have collectively policed themselves? Maybe they've never read The Hub? Did they at least greet you when they passed, please tell me they greeted you? Look after yourselves, eventually these idiots will be taken care of by Darwin, if not on the bike during the course of the rest of their careless lives, and we'll all be left with responsible and polite cyclists both on the road and on the trail.
  17. Ya it probably would, I was offered R35K for my Seamaster in 2001 when telling the story to a guy I met who dealt in old watches. I plan on wearing mine a lot, it's not good to me in the safe! Besides, the real value of this thing for me is the sentimental value, not the $$$'s...
  18. Looks a little tight that watch, you may want to knock Rolex up for an additional link there :whistling:
  19. Nice, my father received an Omega Seamaster for his 21st birthday in 1963. Initials on the back etc. so very sentimental. I got it when he passed away (in 2001) and it wasn't working so well so it landed up in my drawer until late December last year when I decided to have it refurbished. Off to the local Omega dealer who said they would send it of to the SA agents. Got a call two weeks later to say the guy was a little nervous to work on it and it would need to go off to the Omega factory in Switzerland for some proper TLC. Got a call this morning to say it would be ready next week and they'd managed to find an original strap that the watch came with way back when (it's had an aftermarket strap for the last 30yrs). So, for a price tag of around R9K, I'm getting my old man's Seamaster back in it's 100% original state as refurbished by Omega. Pics to follow once I've collected it.... In the mean time, I'm wearing a Garmin fenix2...
  20. I pre ordered mine on 20 March via CT, it was shipped and arrived in DC on around 6 April. Had it sent to a hotel in Washington that a mate of mine stays at quite often and have been eagerly awaiting his return since then... Saved me plenty bringing it in this way, ended up paying around R4100 in the end. No postage and other cr~p... What a long wait it was, but well worth it. Hope your's lands soon.
  21. Garmin fenix 2 Performer Bundle, just arrived from Clever Training via Washington DC this morning (thanks to my friend travelling from DC), thanks also to DC Rainmaker for the additional 10% discount code on the site. Super excited to test it out tomorrow morning  BTW - not sure how to reduce photo size, sorry
  22. It says KZN, Howick
  23. Sheesh, you're a real glass half empty kind of a guy guy aren't you? It's not a fake pinarello, it's a "genuine chinarello"....
  24. I used my GoPro once or twice for the bike. I then crashed when trying to straighten it on a ride once and not since. My problem with the chest mount is that it does not work well enough with the extended battery, so that's a problem for me. The other issue is trying to get time to edit. Now I use it most of the time to film the kids in the pool etc. still worth it there, but could have gone with something less than the black edition for this purpose.
