  1. So I ran out of talent on my MTB in august and was booked off any exercise for six months, with an anticipated full recovery period of a year. I am a little on the heavy side to start off with, but now I'm a proper fatty having gained 9kg. Any ideas on how I could shed some weight over the next twelve months, without eating only rabbit food?
  2. I've never reset any of my devices, I just assumed the unit would deleted the older files in order to make room for the new ones?
  3. I've become increasingly aware of the anger of the average driver on our roads these days. Perhaps it's due to having been working form home for so long. Yesterday, I had to travel for a meeting. One the way back, I passed a woman, on the highway, with three kids in the car, only one of which was wearing a seatbelt. Worst of all, she was sending a text message, hiding the phone below the window line, basically in her lap. She only stopped when I pulled up beside her and gestured to leave the phone. This is why cyclists get killed, not because they're the problem. The average person behind the wheel of a car in SA is not properly equipped to do so.
  4. Hello Hubbers, Whilst this is not a bike related plea, I am an avid MTB'er and part of the issue that landed me here is a serious MTB accident I was involved in in August 2021, where I, amongst other things, fractured a vertebra in my thoracic spine. As you may or may not be aware, every year at Midmar Mile a small group of us participate in the 8 Mile Club charity swim where we raise funds for worthy causes. This year will be my 7th, but it is going to be the most special due to the fact that my daughter, having just turned 16, has just become eligible to swim this event, so it will be our first 8 Mile together. When I had my accident in August, the prognosis was that I was most likely not going to be allowed to swim this year. I've been feeling strong and it appears as if I'm good to go, albeit with very little training. I'll most certainly not be going for a time this year. The problem I have is that I was not expecting to swim and therefore, having delayed my fundraising, I'm running out of time to raise funds. I'll be swimming for CHOC, for whom through cycling and swimming, I've raised over R100K for in the last four years. Please can I ask that you consider donating or at least forwarding the below link onto your friends and family. Anything will make a difference, big or small. You can donate online via credit card and all donations go to the charities. Jason Raath is raising funds for CHOC | kydrin foundation Please help Hubbers.
  5. Hubbers, as some of you may be aware, I have been participating in the Midmar Mile 8 Mile swim for some time now. In fact, I have completed six to date. 2022 was gearing up to be momentous as my daughter, at age 16, has become eligible to compete in this event as well and we were super excited to do this together. 2021 was strange as Midmar was cancelled due to COVID-19. We did, however, get permission to swim the 8 Mile event though and this was done on the Thursday and Friday, with no boat transport. A decision by the organisers was taken to swim Finish-Start-Finish-Start which was quite a change as I'd never swum Midmar backwards before. It was so successful though, that a decision has been taken to repeat this this year with the 8 Mile no longer taking place with the group swims but as a separate event on Thursday and Friday again. The excitement of completing this event with my daughter was quickly dashed however, when on 21 August 2021 I was involved in quite a serious MTB accident that left me with a fractured vertebra in my thoracic spine, a broken nose, and serious dose of roasties, some of which required stitches. The neurosurgeon ruled me out of any exercise for six months. I healed a bit and was given permission to get onto a stationary bike at the end of November, although no resistance was allowed. Full recovery has been slow though with constant pain almost daily. The pain has disappeared over the last week or two and I'm gently getting into the pool again, with a view to hopefully being able to accompany my daughter on her first 8 Mile, although my ability to keep up with her, even at full fitness, is doubtful at best. She has promised that she'll hang back for us to complete our last mile together though. Now the kicker, we are doing this for CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa). These guys do amazing work, not only in assisting with the provision of care for childhood cancer sufferers, but also by providing accommodation and transport to the parents of these little fighters. Often this support is the difference between whether these kid's parents are actually able to bring them through to the major centers for treatment or not. In short, it's life saving. Please go an have a look on their website to see what they do: www.choc.org.za Over the last four years swimming & cycling for CHOC, I have raised almost R100,000 for them and am super excited that my daughter has chosen CHOC as her charity of choice as well. We are obliged to raise R10,000 each for this worthy cause, failing which we are liable for this sum ourselves. Whilst I normally add to the total myself anyway, the time off work due to injury, coupled with the economic issues caused by COVID (I'm a commission only earner), makes this year a little tough to carry this. Please can I ask that you consider supporting our cause? It's as easy as as online shopping and any amount will be greatly appreciated. Please send this to anyone who may be interested as well. I'm happy to do some stupid stuff to acknowledge your donations, although it'll need to be contingent on full recovery. 6. Good move, I had the 3 & 5 Sapphire editions and to be honest, I’m not sure it was worth the cash. I’ve had the 6X Pro for about a year now and am super happy with it. I’ve used my fēnix watches as day to day watches since the series 2 came out and they’re the bomb.
  7. Sometimes my Edge takes longer to update to Discovery than the fēnix. Not sure why. I usually sync a couple of times and Discovery gets the message.
  8. I’ve also got loads of teddies. There’s a children’s home in Bryanston that will take them. I’ll get the name and post it as well. My girls have also grown out of about two bags of cuddly stuff. Apparently they’ll also take previously loved toys. I’ll get the details.
  9. So I mailed CHOC today, they don’t take them anymore. They suggested that I get in touch with Reach for a Dream or Rainbows and Smiles. I’ll get in touch with both this weekend and check who’s keen to take them. I’ll then post it here!
  10. Awesome, I swim 8 Mile Club and Ride for them. Thank you.
  11. I have around 100 medals from various events. It’s hit the stage where our coat racks rattle, my daughter’s door rattles from her medals. They seem to be everywhere. With the exception of a small handful of the things, I’m keen to get rid of them. I’ve heard of a charity that gives them to kids who reach milestones in recovery from illnesses etc. Any ideas of who they are and how I can get my medals to them?
  12. I really really need a decent helmet that fits. For some reason Rudi Project (L) amongst others don’t fit me anymore.
  13. Those were the bomb. I loved those when I had them, really comfy!
  14. Hello Hubbers, It's been a while since I last posted anything to do with Midmar 8 Mile Club. In fact, I've been begging for money for CHOC for so long that last year I put all the required cash in myself (around R20K), in order to give everyone a breather from my persistent fund raising. This year is a special 8 Mile Swim for me as it marks my 5th entry into this event. I've set my target at R50,000 and have to date managed around R20,000 of this. I need another R30K In years gone by, I've swam 1 mile for every R100 donated, but work has precluded me from putting in that sort of time in the water. So this year, I decided to do something different. I will match every donation, up to a total match of R20,000. So, if you donate to CHOC, I will match your donation, simple as that. You can follow this link: https://kydrin.co.za/goals/763 and see that I've already matched around R8,500 this year. Some of the donations that I matched do not show up on this fundraising website as my employer has agreed to match any donation made by a staff member. So those who I work with will have had their donations matched twice. In short, there's another R11,500 or so that I will match for anyone who wants to chip in. Please help Hubbers. Some CHOC stats for you: 1736 Children in their care CHOC offers basic necessities such as Carebags, nutritional support (food parcels) and bereavement support to the children and their families. 2 448 bed nights to 2514 individuals CHOC accommodation facilities offer a home away from home for children and their parents/caregivers during treatment and follow up visits. 435 families receive psychosocial support The psychosocial team bring much needed support to children, parents and family members, as well as support to the medical and nursing staff. So go ahead, let me match your donation. Please, I really need to get to R50,000...
  15. They won’t cancel them and convert. Discovery paid FNB almost R2b for the credit card book. They’re not just going to give it back having paid for it!
  16. Same with the swimming. I swim Midmar 8 Mile Club every year and I get the same points as I would have if I’d swam only a single mile on each day. As an aside, neither myself or my wife have had points allocated for gym or workouts for the lat three days. Exercised every one of those days!
  17. What a load of crap. It just gets harder and harder to keep the status up. The cost is also heading north steadily!
  18. Mine’s OK, but I see my family is now required to produce 100k points to maintain our status when it was 90k last year.
  19. I’ve got the black card and I only get 42.5%. I think I need to do a whole lot of questionnaires to increase the discount
