  1. Sorry, for a road bike. I extended a MTB steerer last year by welding and it is still working 100%. (I put a pic on the Hub) Just don't know enough about carbon to take the chance.
  2. I have a small hairline crack at the top of my carbon steerer tube. I do not think it is safe to ride with it as it is. My question is, would it be possible to replace the carbon tube with an aluminium tube? It is not tapered and 1 1/8" and about 30mm too short for me anyway. Would it be safe to do this and also cost effective rather than buying a new fork? Appreciate some advice? Thanks
  3. Another Gumtree (sorry Hub) deal gone wrong. We have to stop this from happening. Have to start setting the example and nailing the bastar...who slip up. ONE STRIKE AND YOU ARE OUT! No more Holy than thou attitudes any more, minor or major, who cares, a Hubber got shafted!!! Who will be next? Rant off!
  4. double post
  5. I hope to be cycling through Wepener shortly and have been unable to find any info on camping on the Internet. Please could somebody let me know where I could camp and contact details if possible. Will be appreciated.

  7. My touring bike is tubed with liners using a touring tyre. Very heavy indeed. Used to use tubeless but covering distance/day on knoblies is a problem for me. Had no punctures with liners and tubes. I do not believe the slime filled tubes work. Well, they never have for me. My GF has recently acquired a bike and I have insisted she go tubeless. Safety is paramount and also it narrows the chances of punctures considerably. I moved from tubes to tubeless and I will NEVER go back to tubes again. I had so many punctures it was not worth it. Go tubeless without a doubt. Money well spent, I promise you. Devil thorns on tubes are a risk, not so riding tubeless.
  8. Here we go...
  9. Future life with water and banana in the morning plus coffee. 32GI drink before departure and then only water and 32GI, with cheap "health" bars until lunch time. Smash a burger with desert at lunch time and load the sugar from then on. Chocolate milk and a good meal at night. Repeat the next day. Works for me when I want to cover distance.
  10. Thanks, I am to to speed with all that. Having worked in the bush in Tanzania. I know what can and does happen. Just have to get the Ficksburg - East London training trip out of the way next month. Heat is going to be a settler.
  11. Guys you are most helpful. @Johan: Yes, Winter is when I plan to do it. Would not go at any other time. Thanks for the links. I will make inquiries. @DJR: Thanks for the most informative reply. Appreciate the time taken to compose the epistle! Very useful indeed. I have a mates going up there end July/August and said they will give me a lift there and I can ride while they do what they would like to do.(Fitting bike rack next week) They will pick me up in Oshakati and bring me back as long as I share petrol costs=bargain! Not sure of their actual plans but this is good enough for me. Will use my DS touring bike with all the kit and hope to off road at some time. I know a few remote places I would definitely like to visit again. My, but how things have changed since my last visit. It has always been on my bucket list and it is now or never. Thanks again guys.
  12. Thanks Dirt. Yes, it would appear accn is not a problem and things are quite built up these days. Has anybody been there or even ridden the area? Anybody with any suggestions?
  13. Anybody done this and could offer some advice? Thinking of doing Livingstone to Oshakati unsupported? Advice will be appreciated very much. Thanks
  14. I have front and rear Bontranger if anybody wants them? (Postage costs only)
  15. HI guys Some advice please? I have a set of each of these tubeless 26" wheels and would like to give one set to a friend. Which is the better wheel for me to use so I can give the worst set away? I ride mostly XC and weigh 86 kg. Any advice will be appreciated as both sets seem the same to me. Thanks chaps!
  16. Geez mate, how do you know these things???? Many thanks - and you are too kind. I am flipping amazed! At my age I hope I don't fall asleep on the job., let alone the bike! Feel a snooze coming on right now,
  17. Thanks Dazshell and Shangri. I will try them both.
  18. Thanks but these are for standard feet. I need copies made of my existing inserts.
  19. Had to laugh! Good one. Thanks guys for the input.
  20. It happens on on all my bikes. Now that you mention it, mostly on my road bike in traffic? Nervous, shallow breathing? I am recovering from a serious injury and cannot afford to come off again. I am not tire but it P.....es me off on the bike.
  21. I have done a search but to no avail. My question is, yawning when riding, especially when stopped. Is this "normal" and am I doing anything wrong? It does not matter what distance, time of day or intensity. Jeez, am I going to sleep on my bike!
  22. I have a pair from Byron at R2600.00. Very worried they will not last and would like to have a solid replacement made. The pair I have seem very fragile and I really do not see them lasting. After one days wear I can see chaffing. I.need at least 2cm on my injured leg so may have to make a wear plate myself. I was just hoping somebody could make some up in carbon/glass for all my shoes..
  23. Does anybody know of someone who can make copies of medical shoe inserts in Durban? My problem is, the existing ones do not last at at R2500 a pop every 5-6 months, it becomes expensive. Fibreglass or carbon? - anyone? Thanks
  24. On a tandem? Great respect!!! Did it on my MTB and have never been the same since - thin air?? RESPECT AGAIN!
  25. Might as well start somewhere. If we all put up a fight against these thieves? We are making it too easy for the robbers to help themselves. This thread proves it. Time to fight back.
