  1. When I was training for the epic many years ago Andrew Maclean had a training plan on the cycle lab website that said that 15 hrs / wk, if done properly, is ample, and that he figured many turned up over-trained. Just saying.
  2. Fekkit - this was the hardest 35km I've ever ridden followed by another 15km (and that that was not the uphills either). Gary Green and Solly Prinsloo rode this as well - posted good times - those ballies are not slow. And anyone who likes to think Berg 'n Bush is not groomed, give this one a go....
  3. So, Bulls Bikes are fastest, followed by Scott? And Specialized are slow - only someone like Sauser (and Fantastic) are strong enough to make them go fast? Interesting stuff... All you spaz riders should look at upgrading... There's a business opportunity waiting to happen...
  4. The likelihood is that if the guests weren't in the ellie's territory, the ellie's territory would be farm land and the ellie wouldn't be there to charge?
  5. I remember Karl Platt saying that the Bulls wouldn't be truely competitive until they had soft-tails. His comment was that the jarring takes it out of your legs, and in the final few days the cumulative effect was just too much. I think this year was the first year they had soft-tails? He probably had huge expectations...
  6. Hey nonk - here is the samj article for you to read. Makes interesting reading. If you'd like the scientific references, there are plenty at the end. If nothing else, read the Discussion and Summary. You'll be in a much better place to frame your arguments.
  7. Ah, that's sad man. Maybe he would have won, maybe not, but the front runners always know that if they make a mistake...
  8. I don't know any other race where I'd like so many to win, and be so disappointed for the ones who don't.
  9. What's happened to Karl Platt? Knee injury too much?
  10. The point of posting a two year old newspaper story being? That somebody, somewhere is feeling threatened that what they were taught (and thus themselves are teaching?) is wrong?
  11. It's a balancing act - weight vs robustness. You make your decision and take your chance. These guys are so fit and strong I wonder how much saving a few grams will actually make? Are all the punctures related to running low tyre pressures? If so, there's another balancing act - traction vs not getting a puncture. Puncture wise, the first stage seemed to catch a lot of them by surprise. And most of the issues were sidewall cuts? Would that be the equivalent of a snake bite?
  12. Sounds perfect. The thing to remember is that you will crave carbs. Takes a couple of weeks to get over it, but after not very long, you suddenly realise that you don't really have a huge desire to eat carbs. One thing to bear in mind is that if you are hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), you will crave carbs, so make sure you are eating enough and regularly. Once you are adapted, eating becomes a more hit and miss thing because you are not continually hungry after each couple of hours, but when you are starting off, you need to be careful of not getting too hungry or you will reach for whatever is available - and in my case, as soon as I'd had one biscuit, then the rest of the pack would disappear down my throat.
  13. Turns out that indeed, he is the son of the father. Don't know why the name is spelled differently - possibly he wanted to differentiate himself from his father? Which, if it is the case, is in itself a bit swak. Esp. when people find out.
  14. Compared to the results of the prudent diet - that are known? Raise in type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart attacks? You reckon that is preferable?
  15. Does research regarding LCHF not count if it is not done by Noakes? Or is Noakes not allowed to rely on other peer-reviewed, scientific studies? Have a read of Waterlogged if you want to see the value of peer-reviewed scientific studies...
  16. Here's a nice start. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-789X.2012.01021.x/abstract;jsessionid=7396D07C42DB2B84642D35158B132AF9.d04t04 Like I said, five mins on google and you can prove yourself wrong in as many ways as you would like.
  17. Take five mins on google - you can prove yourself wrong without too much effort.
  18. You are referring to the occasional survey article that he wrote in SAMJ. It was explicitly stated as a set of anecdotes to provide a heads up to the medical community of the effect of a lchf diet on 127 people, esp. with regard to reversing type 2 diabetes, which is commonly thought of as irreversible. If it was explicitly stated that it was an occasional survey (and thus not a 'scientific article') why are you complaining about peer reviews and control groups? If you want to find that stuff, at least bother to do five mins of googling before posting tripe on the hub. And maybe bother to read the original article as well.
  19. Eh? How can one person sound so confident and be so wrong?
  20. Sauser is ruthless - remember him pushing Burry the first time they rode together...? Someone described him as a wolf in sheep's clothing...
  21. Cool - it's on my way home...
  22. Cool. 2 months is fine to be dark and desperate.
  23. Been meaning to ask you how it's going. Seems you're at the dark and desperate stage. So it's all going to plan then How long you been at this again?
  24. Himeville Arms?
