  1. We bought a Bundutop RRT, and one of the best parts of the package is the mattress. Full-length thick comfy mattress for a great night's sleep. 😊 Only thing that wasn't to my liking was the electric winch for opening/closing the shell, but there wasn't a manual option available. I am not a fan of battery/electrically operated equipment in the bush.
  2. Also remember to file down the spoke holes if it's a new build with a Dremel file or alike. Sometimes the spoke access hole is quite sharp and with a little pressure the rim-tape will rip/push through, even with 2 layers.
  3. My experience of the Mavic's as well. I brought in a pair of Mavic Open Pro Tubeless rims for my wife's bike a few years ago. Laced them to re-purposed hubs .. then used the recommended Mavic tubeless tires too. That was by far the most effort ever exerted trying to get tires onto rims 🥵🥵 .... I dread the day we're stuck with a flat somewhere when I need to take them off to insert a tube ...
  4. I have an older set road Campagnolo Scirocco G3 (clincher) 35mm wheels that I want to convert to road tubeless this coming weekend. Anyone tried it before, or know of a reason it might not work?
  5. 😉 mmm .. the Boland 100 Miler didn't enforce it either? See CTCT entries are still open for PPA and general public? I'll check in closer to the race date, see if they announce test/vaccination prerequisites .... if mandatory, I'll give it a skip again.
  6. Thx, I couldn't remember it being compulsory for the DC in November last year.. If they are going to enforce it, it would be nice to know beforehand. Could not find it on the CTCT page with a quick scan.
  7. Do you still need to show a negative Covid test or proof of Covid vaccination?
  8. Nice. Thx. This would allow me to mount the sml pump cage with the water bottle cage too.😉
  9. Looking for 3 of these ..... Hinged Water Bottle Cage Clamps 28.6mm Have a classic steel framed bike and lost the original water bottle clamps. The frame does not have cage threads. Anyone know where in SA I can purchase these hinged clamps? Currently hacking it ... but the coffee shop guys don't think much of it
  10. yes, just don't try to remove road Mavic tubeless tyre from a Mavic rim without tyre levers next to the road .... most tyres you can pop off and on again with your hands, not those Mavic's though 😬
  11. As with most things there are pros and cons. When you commute you get forced into the side on the road regularly, into debris, as opposed to your early morning 5am training rides when you can ride well inside the clear road. In my opinion, when you commute, going tubeless is the way to go. My tubeless Gavia's lasts me a few thousand km's before I have to replace them, and saved me from roadside repair many times. But yes, when you do fail, it can be spectacular sometimes. And as for repair of large holes, I have not been very successful to date.
  12. Yes, I leave the plastic, for no reason though. I do use Stan's Race Sealant, but when I remove the tires I wash them thoroughly. I will use your method in future.
  13. Thank you Seems my patches was too small maybe? This is a Mavic Yksion Tubeless tyre that I tried to patch, but eventually just started leaking again.
  14. That looks promising,
  15. Thx, which brand patch would you recommend for road tyres? I've tried all kinds of ways to get patches to stick to the inside of road tyres .... what do you use?
  16. I've done 2 repairs before on 700 x 25c and 700 x 28c tyres, and both times the plug influenced the ride quality thereafter. (On a MTB the protruding plug is not a problem) Anyone have recommendations/success stories, on tubeless "road" tyre specific repairs when the damage was too severe for the sealant to do it's job?
  17. Anyone have an old dive computer laying around, .... looking for something similar to a Suunto ZOOP for my son for the coming holiday for some freediving. Alternatively, if I have too, where can I look to purchase in Cape town, ... Orca (Newlands) and Pisces(Simonstown) comes to mind?
  18. I have not been that broken for a long time, Lesson for next time would be to take it ‘rustig’ up Hell’s hoogte, …. And not race myself to death in the bit between Hell’s and Du Toits. It was by far the most hellish final 15km I’ve done in any recent race …. I was on the cusp of cramping all the way up to the top, had to keep the cadence 'just-right' in order not to create any extra effort that would result in cramping-up ????
  19. Ja, I didn't think about a BMS if I get the 12V batteries, only if I bought the 8 x 3.2V cells .... I saw a nice kit here: https://lithiumbatteriessa.co.za/collections/diy-kit/products/24v-8s-daly-smart-100ah-lifepo4-lithium-iron-phosphate-diy-kit-new-a-grade-cells?variant=38166158901415 I read this blog since my last post, but I think he is using the same type of batteries here although their loads are different? https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/13366/mixing-battery-types-and-capacities-my-experiences.html But I think I'm going with your advice then ..... back at BMS on a 8 x 3.2V lithium pack if I can find something in stock?
  20. I thought I had my battery packs sorted, wanted to buy 8 x 3.2V LifePo4 cells, and then just add as I go along, but this morning I'm wondering whether that is a good idea? It's a 24V system, but thinking, for the application, which is off-grid living, not close to any amenities or suppliers, I need to be able to source another battery if cells fail in a rural area. Thus thinking of buying 12V batteries rather, but then do I go Gel, lead-acid or Lith-iron? What risks is there if you have a mix of gel/lead-acid/Lith batteries in series / parallel to make up a 24V pack if it should come to that?
  21. Thank you Was trying to get hold of a Victron Phoenix Inverter 24/3000-230V VE.Bus in order to be portable enough for off-grid and home back-up use. Reasoning for this inverter was installation/operation without the need for a mobile interface device for programming. Made the purchase, now just holding thumbs CO stock record is correct as Cpt stores was out of stock, if not I'll have to go with the Multiplus or Smart inverters?
  22. Has anyone have experience from this online store: https://thepowerstore.co.za/collections/inverters/victron_phoenix Looking at buying a Victron inverter from them? Or any suggestions as to which store would be able to supply me with a Victron Phoenix inverter in Cape town?
  23. .... another solution might be to borrow the wedge from a fellow hubber, and have it 3D printed/machined?
  24. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge I feel much better about the project now! ????
  25. Thank you for the advise I saw the Corrocote 1 Metal Etch Primer when I ordered these 2 etch primers: Glaker and Supreme, but at the time they only had the 5L units for the Corrocote. I do have some etch primer thinners as well. Have you any experience with these manufacturers above? I will order the Corrocote 1 in any case. It's early enough in the job to strip the frame again, the etch primer on there is pretty soft and came off easily when I tried to smooth out the flaws. I'd rather start from scratch. I aim to use this frame as my future road-bike, thus want to do it properly. And everything rusts to sh!t in Cape town if not done properly. How many layers of initial etch primer should I use, or should it be very thin - just enough to make sure I cover the steel, before applying the 2K primer filler?
