  1. What a gem Eppie! Many happy km's. Love the shape of the fork .... doesn't have the extreme curvature of some other bikes from the same era - maybe influenced by Gemini's track bike production? Found this too: Gemini Cycles In 1967 Henri's son, Jacques, finished his military service, so Henri decided to open up a new workshop as a craftsman frame=builder, taking Jacques on as the workshop assistant to build up the bikes. During the next fifteen years or so Depierre developed a very good reputation for building frames wirh excellent handling. He concentrated mainly on road-racing frames, but due to the proximity of the Bercy stadium, he also built a large number of track frames. Among his custonmers were some of the best known French riders of the 70s, including Bernard Thevenet, double winner of the Tour de France, Cyrille Guimard, Raymond Delisie, Regis Ovion, Jose Cattieau, Daniel Morelon, Pierre Trentin...as well as Luis Ocana and Lief Mortensen.. His design philosophy was that form follows function ie simplicity..but this was coupled with a high standard of finish. to the metalwork." https://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclecrank/albums/72157614480203345
  2. Nick, what is your opinion on future proofing ito hub spoke count? I used to exclusively buy 32hole hubs and rims in order to re-purpose the hubs and rims. It allowed a nice 3 cross spoke lacing ..., but lately I find it difficult to get hold of 32hole rims and hubs? Seems the new max standard is 28hole? Thus I'm going to have to start doing 2 cross lacing instead?
  3. Can't agree with you more ... … mine, a Cruiser, not a Landy, was stolen recovered, shot full of holes by the police trying to apprehend the thieves ….. and classified as code 3. The insurance company had it fixed and I decided that I would ride it until the wheels come off. But the wheels do not want to come off. Seems as long as I keep feeding it oil and diesel it keeps on going … hehehe And it’s the perfect vehicle for going where you’re not suppose to go without feeling sorry for the paintwork ……
  4. I don't think there is any hard and fast rules about when to get your wheels trued. As you said your spokes seem fine, but if there is play - higher tension on neighboring spokes could cause issues/breakages down the line. Vertical hop isn't difficult to remedy by an experienced wheel-builder, unless the rim was damaged at some point. I've had instances where I just could not get the hop out .... where the flat spot was caused by damage to the rim. On a MTB you probably won't feel a slightly oval wheel, but on a 'road bike' a flat spot will obviously make a world of difference at speed.
  5. I had the exact question ito Ultegra hydraulic STI's and MTB calipers. I couldn't find any info. Here's a chart with info on road component compatibility that I found whist searching. https://productinfo.shimano.com/#/com?acid=C-499&cid=C-453 In the end I ordered the Ultegra calipers from bike24 (germany) ... did not want to take the risk of brake failure...

  7. Were there any Peugeot's made with "Prestige Tange" Which other classic frames used Prestige Tange, if any? I have both "Infinty Tange" and "Tange #2" frames ..... but can't recall ever seeing a "Prestige Tange" badge on any bike.
  8. Just an update on my roller resistance project I changed the magnets on my projects to neodymium, and riveted them in, as opposed to gluing which didn’t work as well. I added some thicker rim-tape to the wheel too to dissipate the heat generated by the induction. Since above changes I’ve had no trouble at all. Had gone well over 90 minutes without failure. I still sometimes (10%) swivel the vintage “racermate” into place to do some hard grinding, but the resistance from the magnets is more than sufficient for tempo training. Love the setup as the bike moves naturally underneath me …… The vintage racermate is perfect for rollers as it’s attached to the seatpost, and can be swiveled down into place, or "off" while riding. The PowerTap hub together with Zwift is great to monitor power. Lastly the brake block adjuster is quite useful as it helped in getting the distance and resistance setup between the rim and magnets. The noise levels are very low with this setup too when the wind-trainer is "off" the wheel.
  9. Been researching one of my frames and came across these ..... Have you ever considered your frame to be a 1980s Raleigh Team Professional or Team TI? Quite a few were made with the sliding lock seatpost clamp. https://raleigh-sb4059.com/portfolio/1985-sb7219-reynolds-531p/ https://radpropaganda.org/raleigh-team-trauma-professional/
  10. Just received an email .... Race2Stanford is moving from January to April 24th 2021. I needed to get my swimming back up to speed before I could commit though, but this should give me enough time.
  11. I'm not too worried about the start methodology, think most groups will sort themselves out on the way to the top of Vissershok? There isn't much on the calendar currently, think I'll definitely line up for this one.

    The Munga 2020

Just had a look at 70yo Alewwyn Vorster's updates on the charity page of https://twitter.com/songoinfo I am in awe ... in awe really of everyone that attempted this race and gave it their all. He finished the Munga since his last update on that page .... ....
  13. Perfect as it is!!!! ... Awesome build! Many happy km's to you !

    The Munga 2020

See Alewyn is at +-595km at RV3, and his GPS log looks good ... but there seems to be a spike in Philip Boardman's GPS speed with stationary time attached thereafter, he is at 524km, hope Philip is ok? This Munga thing is brutal ...
  15. It will be a nice opportunity to bring out the classic steel bikes, or custom bikes ... no racing pressure .... just a nice leisurely ride on your polished steed? I have vintage Tommasini that was gifted to me some years ago which I would love to take around the peninsula ....

    The Munga 2020

.... I am looking at that steady last climb getting a lot steeper for Hansie near Matroosberg on Bo-swaarmoed rd... amply named/applicable for the Munga riders when they get there .... Hope they all make it .....

    The Munga 2020

I've only ever done Ouberg going up, ... there is some nasty/technical slabs of rock which is especially slippery if there is debris strewn, or gravel over it .... Need to be careful descending, but some parts of it, to the bottom really great.

    The Munga 2020

INSANE .... looks like he(they) only had an hour off the bike between 2am and 3am .... then back on? .
  20. EddieV

    The Munga 2020

Eish, that was an hour ride out, .... so plus minus 30km to 40km extra all together ... an hour each way?

    The Munga 2020

Where will Hansie stop to take a nap? ..... And for how long? He seems to have nearly 90km on Brian and Kevin(if the GPS is correct) ....

    The Munga 2020

As if the race isn't tough enough ... Looks like Heinrich made it to Rest Village 1 after nearly 4 hours and 13km of walking. Hopefully he can get the bike sorted there .... I take my hat off to these guys for their perseverance and determination. .
