  1. Stability on a descent with a narrow bar can be offset by using a longer stem maybe? Drop your frame size slightly and lengthen the stem?
  2. As society we create/promote this ‘roof ry” culture. In a cycle race it’s just more detectable or obvious? In business it’s “big business” to find tax loopholes, yet use the same infrastructure financed by other’s tax? Whether it’s having a tax lawyer on the payroll, under-declaring, or working/banking offshore etc ....
  3. Got myself one of these 2nd-hand a while ago, a "Traveler" guitar... together with my Vox amPlug AC30 and cellphone earphones it's the perfect compact guitar for car/camping/holiday trips. Love it. If need be you can even plug it into car's audio aux plug to entertain (or disturb/annoy) everyone.... .
  4. Wonder what the bookies odds was on a 3rd consecutive win?
  5. Many years ago I wanted to have my motorcycle helmet re-sprayed, but was warned that the helmet-shell was manufactured to slide across tar, and by re-spraying it, it(the paint) could possibly grab onto the road surface twisting your neck ..... is that a thing or a tall tale?
  6. Anyone know where in Cpt (or SA), I can get Campagnolo disc brake rotors? Seems I will have to ask my LBS to order?
  7. +1 Start at Cape Point gate, turn around at/before Red Hill, and then back to the gate again.
  8. Not sure when last we had some Eddie Vedder .... "Society" is one of my favourite tracks, but the entire "Into the Wild" album is awesome.
  9. I just had to give access onto the property when requested by the municipality, and couldn't build across it. I suppose there is different types of servitude. Was underground water supply infrastructure.
  10. I once owned a property where the deed specified servitude (albeit it was for underground infrastructure etc.) ... but the property deed might thus have something in it
  11. Use: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=65627cedc9af43a6886634e21f5ca750 and then copy paste: 18.40, -34.02 into the search.

    Who remembers?

There was Bella Napoli's and "The Dome" etc. in the 80's .... but Doors were my favourite in the early nineties. Remember clubbing all night and if you were out of pocket your first train out would be at 4:15am (Sunday morning) from Jhb station ...... (1985-1986-ish)
  13. Years ago I had a similar issue on a 10-speed campagnolo shifter/derailleur to shimano cassette ... and I used JTEK Shiftmates to correct the pull. http://www.jtekengineering.com/shiftmate/shiftmate-compatibility-charts-choices/ They don't seem to have a gadget for 11-Campagnolo to 11-Shimano, thus I don't think there is a compatibility issue on the 11-speed? ....
  14. Ask your accountant to register you as an importer. It's done online via the SARS website. Can do it in your personal capacity, does not even have to be a company. If your documentation/FICA is correct it's done within 2 weeks. Did mine last year, and takes all the guesswork away ..... When importing you just specify your Custom's code instead of your ID.
  15. What a gem Eppie! Many happy km's. Love the shape of the fork .... doesn't have the extreme curvature of some other bikes from the same era - maybe influenced by Gemini's track bike production? Found this too: Gemini Cycles In 1967 Henri's son, Jacques, finished his military service, so Henri decided to open up a new workshop as a craftsman frame=builder, taking Jacques on as the workshop assistant to build up the bikes. During the next fifteen years or so Depierre developed a very good reputation for building frames wirh excellent handling. He concentrated mainly on road-racing frames, but due to the proximity of the Bercy stadium, he also built a large number of track frames. Among his custonmers were some of the best known French riders of the 70s, including Bernard Thevenet, double winner of the Tour de France, Cyrille Guimard, Raymond Delisie, Regis Ovion, Jose Cattieau, Daniel Morelon, Pierre Trentin...as well as Luis Ocana and Lief Mortensen.. His design philosophy was that form follows function ie simplicity..but this was coupled with a high standard of finish. to the metalwork." https://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclecrank/albums/72157614480203345
  16. If you were closer to EC (to view), I would say negotiate with this guy .... I've always been a Cannondale Synapse fan, ... this one's got discs, carbon, and looks like hydraulic 11-speed? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/453976/cannondale-synapse-carbon-disc-2018
  17. Nick, what is your opinion on future proofing ito hub spoke count? I used to exclusively buy 32hole hubs and rims in order to re-purpose the hubs and rims. It allowed a nice 3 cross spoke lacing ..., but lately I find it difficult to get hold of 32hole rims and hubs? Seems the new max standard is 28hole? Thus I'm going to have to start doing 2 cross lacing instead?
  18. I have Gaint Gavia's (700x25) on my commuter. Not as soft as the Schwalbe One's, but I love them, they last a bit longer, and not as expensive to replace when cut. .
  19. Can't agree with you more ... … mine, a Cruiser, not a Landy, was stolen recovered, shot full of holes by the police trying to apprehend the thieves ….. and classified as code 3. The insurance company had it fixed and I decided that I would ride it until the wheels come off. But the wheels do not want to come off. Seems as long as I keep feeding it oil and diesel it keeps on going … hehehe And it’s the perfect vehicle for going where you’re not suppose to go without feeling sorry for the paintwork ……
  20. I don't think there is any hard and fast rules about when to get your wheels trued. As you said your spokes seem fine, but if there is play - higher tension on neighboring spokes could cause issues/breakages down the line. Vertical hop isn't difficult to remedy by an experienced wheel-builder, unless the rim was damaged at some point. I've had instances where I just could not get the hop out .... where the flat spot was caused by damage to the rim. On a MTB you probably won't feel a slightly oval wheel, but on a 'road bike' a flat spot will obviously make a world of difference at speed.
  21. I had the exact question ito Ultegra hydraulic STI's and MTB calipers. I couldn't find any info. Here's a chart with info on road component compatibility that I found whist searching. https://productinfo.shimano.com/#/com?acid=C-499&cid=C-453 In the end I ordered the Ultegra calipers from bike24 (germany) ... did not want to take the risk of brake failure...
  22. Mmmm .. There is a huge difference in built quality between a 2K Makro special and a commercial studio indoor machine. On one occasion I accidentally bent a friend’s indoor cycle crank-arms' too, or maybe it was the pedal axles? That feeling when the pedals start angling inwards when at 12 0’clock. When grinding at full tilt, moving the resistance to “max”, and turning of the crank only being possible by pulling and pushing simultaneously the force is much greater than just standing on the cranks. Many of the 30-year-old machines were over engineered, and would last longer, the current cheap Chinese/Makro imported trainers is really just for spinning only, once you start grinding - multiple parts starts failing.
  23. Were there any Peugeot's made with "Prestige Tange" Which other classic frames used Prestige Tange, if any? I have both "Infinty Tange" and "Tange #2" frames ..... but can't recall ever seeing a "Prestige Tange" badge on any bike.
  24. I love my steel framed bikes too … but I think intrinsic value isn’t enough Selling ‘frames’ is coupled to upgrade-ability and 2nd-hand market value, and demand, …. and “steelies” are at the bottom of that “demand” list. As for upgrades, it needs to be 29er, disc, tapered head-tube, geometry ito forks, thru-axle, boost etc. New Cotic 29er SolarisMAX or 29er BFeMAX frames at R13k or R11K is definitely top of my list …. Don’t know what their SA landed costs would be? https://www.cotic.co.uk/product/BFeMAX
