  1. Lycra belongs on the road .... and on the track
  2. Any male in lycra is disgusting .. regardless of the bike they ride. There are many brands that make comfortable riding pants and loose fitting tops. Unless you doing a time trial on a TT bike ... there is no need expose yourself to the rest of the word
  3. Nope .... No one rides my ebike. I will happily tow them though (always cary a tow rope)
  4. A few years back I bough a beautiful set of Ibis 35 Carbon wheels (the first gen). They were absolutely beautiful, and I could stare at them all day, but I hated them. Coming from a set of Flow's they were so uncomfortable and harsh, I could never get my HDR to feel good. I would constantly swap them with the flows just to check if I was not imagining it. But no.... These carbons did change the bike, and not I a good way. They were fine for a few DH runs in Tokai, but anything over 25K I would be so fatigued no matter how I tried to set up my suspension. vs all day adventures on the flows. Now I'm no expert when it comes to this as some of you are, so my question Have the new generation of carbon wheels changed? Are they more forgiving and usable? I see the new trend is shallow (18m) like the new Stans and Ibis rims? Or am I just being a total wuss and should just stick to Alloy. (very possible)
  5. I believe Willie Englebrecht is bringing in bikes with Bafang motors... seems the be very well priced for a carbon frame and a bafang. Not the prettiest of bikes, but good value.
  6. Interesting to see you ave heart rate is lower but your max is higher ... I have the same trend on my rides vs analog
  7. Second attempt at this. Don't let the haters on this site of which there are many put you off , most of them have never even ridden a ebike for an extended period of time. Ok.. my opinion here. 1.Dont get rid of your normal bike. You will still want to ride it, I dont think a Ebike should be your only bike (I still ride both.... cause I love riding, regardless of the bike, but I do have more fun on my ebike) 2. You will not keep up with your epic mates on flats or slight inclines and even open fast downhills. My power output jumps from about 220 to 410 when I reach the cut off (the bike is heavy, the motor has drag and my sticky DH tires don't help either) You will catch them on the climbs again though. 3.Range: this will depend on your weight, the bike settings, the terrain. I can get about 70km if I use a low setting and keep smooth to 25km when I don't have much time but want to ride all the best bits in tokai in one session (donkey, all snakes, DH line run and switchbacks) 4. I think the biggest fear to getting a ebike is what are my friend going to say, once you get to the "I dont give a sh*t" part of your life you will really enjoy the benifits and the fun. People love telling people what they allowed to ride, especially on this site. 5.Look at getting a Mid powered Ebike (Levo SL, or Orea Rise) lower weight, better handling, better peddling past cut off and so much fun. You might find that it gives you just that little extra power to keep up with your Epic friends. and a full fat might be overkill if you just want it of that. I suggest try and demo one somewhere. 4.Second hand ? there are many great deals on the hub. 5.Enjoy your riding ... this is why I started Mountainbiking back in 1993 in the mountains of heanersburg. It was fun. And if not getting that fun factor anymore with a normal bike, try a ebike...if the fun comes back then its a no-brainer - I ride because I enjoy it and for myself. not for the opinions of people on this site. 6.My Ebike riding group consists of 8 riders, 2 of them training for their 4th epic. we all still manage to ride together, some days the epic guys are on the analogs, some days not... we still all have fun.
  8. The moto jumps I have built on my farm. Flat course with big tables. So don’t have a luxury of a downhill to pick up speed to clear them And I am very glad to hear you can clear any jump at 32km/h ,good on you . Should call you Evel Knievel
  9. I speak for myself, but unlocking the speed limiter is going to start causing a whole lot of problems. I love my ebikes and often I do feel the need for it to go faster especially when im trying to clear certain jumps, but in reality the 32km for SA is fast enough for most trail riding. If you want to ebike market to grow... and get some acceptence into an already huge Anti-Ebike cycling community. (so many haters out there and on this forum) the last think you want to do is start derestricting them. (Also the risk of banning them from cycling trails) All it takes is one incident on a de-restricred bike and all ebikers will be shoved into that category. Just like one Road Cyclist Doper = all road cyclist as dopers.... Note - This is for people riding off road , for people riding on the road, chip away ,32km cut off is way to low
  10. Not sure if this is a place to post but my using HRV and the training today app on my Apple Watch my watch knew I was getting covid long before I had any symptoms…. so I flew into Jhb on the 29th and did 2 really hard rides (up and down) poffadder a few times at vangaalens. According to the app already on Saturday we t was telling to me take it easy but I just though it’s the altitude thing as it takes a day or two for my heart rate to settle. Sunday night my watch was telling me to rest. And Monday o was feeling crap. No amount of sleep would get my HRV off the “rest” line. Today I tested positive. I can also see how my RHR went from usually about 49 to 90 for the last 3 days and is slowly starting to drop. If you are using a HRV app and measuring device. If it says rest…. Rest… a lot of smarter everyone have been looking into this. I just hope I did not do any permanent damage to my heart. I also get a very nice view of my HRV trend on my wrist for those of you that are using a Apple Watch
  11. 38t I find that with a 38 I hit the motor cut off point so fast that its not even worth it. Happy with a 36 for jhb and a 32 for CT
  12. If you going SLX ... you will need to get a new freehub body (factor that cost in as-well) GX uses XD 11 speed SLX uses HG 12 speed SLX uses Microspline
  13. I keep getting baited..
  14. And then whining afterwards on the forums.
  15. I have had a long think about this and leave you with the following. to all you haters ... Ebikes sales are growing and more will be entering your events ...until there are separate events for ebikers (which we will gladly welcome) We will be taking part in your events for as long as your event organiser are willing to accept our money. So either get faster ...or adapt to change, or even better ... Allow us to live rent free in your heads. May the whining sound of my motor haunt your dreams. over and out.
  16. If they are seeded then they would be capable riders ... Seeded means they have some form of riding experience . its the non seeded riders that are the problem .. but that accounts for classic riders as well or Gym bunnies that spend 1/2 the year in spinning classes but have never seen single track. there will always be people catching people .. happens to classic riders all the time. but I stand by my point.. to say ebikers are not allowed to enter events as a blanket statement I don't agree with. Where do you stop when you start targeting a specific group of people ? Women riders not allowed to ride with men? (I've often had to stop and sometimes assist over technical section... or give just touch or advice if I see they are slightly unsure about a certain feature on an event - including w2w and Sani) - By your thinking I should be upset and ask them to be banned? cause one happen to get infront of me and slow me down. Grass root up and coming riders need to have their own event as they might piss someone off on the single track ? Hard of hearing cause they can't hear someone behind them shouting track ? In every race that I have done there has always been some person that pee's me off cause they have done something stupid. but I don't rant about it, I get on with my life its not in my circle of influence. I dont go around spewing hate and causing division within the community.
  17. id say 80/20 rule. maybe you just happen to attract the 20%
  18. In fact my riding partner and I use to start with the sweepers ....but I stopped doing that cause by the time I got to the snack bars they are all finished ... 😔
  19. Non at all... in fact I stop to take photos ... and make sure I get my monies worth at the snack stops....
  20. Again ... ebiker ARE NOT RACING CLASSIC RIDERS, Their times don't count to anything to do with classics. Its the classic riders who are turning it into a race ....not the ebikers. "Ohh lets beat a ebiker and show them how alpha I am) Ebikers dont give a **** about where they finish. there are there for the fun and to get out, they just happen to be going a little faster than you
  21. Yes you did ... you see all this anger and resentment could all be avoided if we just listen to you first time round
  22. So it boils down to the person not the bike ... So a blanket statement ban all ebikes from rides is not called for ... you should be saying ban reckless riders.
  23. I wonder if this same post would of been created if a guy on a normal bike had caused the same issues in the race? But just because the guy happen to be on a ebike, it's a ebike thing ... I have always been slow on climbs, but always catch those same people who passed me on the climb on the downs ... (So does that make them chops cause they are slow on technical trails?) should I start a thread about that ? It happens all the time ... the fact the guy was on a ebike is being single out I think. Just my opinion...
  24. he stated he rode in that group and Im sure his timing would reflect amongst ebiker finishers ... not analog finishers. so he would not take up an analog position on the leader board. That's how I understand how the system works.. then again I've never raced a Ebike, but logic would dictate that.
